Hi everybody! Greetings from sunny Columbus, OH!
Hey everyone, I just wanted to drop onto the list and say hi. My name is Chad Humphries and I am a partner at a ruby and rails shop in Columbus, OH called EdgeCase. Up until two months ago we were doing all of our dev work in test:unit. I had read about RSpec before and after hearing Jim Weirich speak at the Columbus Ruby Brigade about similar ideas I decided to give it a go for a

My specs were all passing last night. Let me

[RSpec] rcov and/or rexml bug?
Hi, Running: Ruby 1.8.7 p72, RSpec 1.1.12 and rcov 0.8.1.2.0, I get the following error message with $ rake spec:rcov -- /usr/local/ruby1.8.7//lib/ruby/1.8/rexml/formatters/pretty.rb:131:in `[]'': no implicit conversion from nil to integer (TypeError) from /usr/local/ruby1.8.7//lib/ruby/1.8/rexml/formatters/pretty.rb:131:in `wrap'' from

rspec_on_rails'' spec:doc and dry runs
In rspec_on_rails, the spec:doc task uses --dry-run, which doesn''t jive well with rspec''s ability to write docs for you. For example, I use the rspec_expectation_matchers plugin from spicycode.com (scanned for a name, didn''t find one =), and end up writing specs like: it { @ticket.should validate_presence_of(:name) } Which results in specdocs such as: Ticket

[OT] RailsConf Tickets ?
Just in case -- if anybody has got a spare ticket for RailsConf, i''d be very happy to buy it... I live in Chicago, so i can do this on very short notice as well, should anybody not be able to attend... :) Otherwise - this being Chicago - no question there''ll be scalpers... :) Thanks, Sebastian

RCov / RSpec segfaults on Ubuntu
Hi all, I appreciate that this is not an RSpec question, but I wondered if anyone out there can offer some pointers. We''re using the latest versions of RSpec and RCov, and ruby --version says this (on the Ubuntu build server): ruby 1.8.6 (2008-07-17 patchlevel 279) [x86_64-linux] We''re getting intermittent (yes, intermittent!) segfaults from the build when running

help anyone?
Hi everybody. Per http://rubyforge.org/pipermail/rspec-users/2007-November/004572.html, we''re going to be moving ticket tracking over to lighthouse. We''d like to get this rolling sooner than later, but we''re fairly well occupied getting ready for the 1.1 release and writing rspec books :) We''ve got the lighthouse account set up. The thing we need to do to

spec.opts: questions about formatters, etc.
Questions concerning spec.opts: 1. Am I correct in believing that each option should go on a separate line of spec.opts in the rails spec directory? If this is so, why is it so? 2. Using a formatter in spec.opts doesn''t seem to work. Here is my spec.opts file: --colour -f s and this is what happens when I run the rake task: Couldn''t find formatter class s Make

Using LDAP with samba
is it possible and how difficult is it, to use LDAP for all the user accounts and groups and password management? would this be something you would want to do? or is it better to stick with samba's initila way of dealing with users? Caleb O'Connell caleb@lincoln.midcoast.com (207)882-7792

XP can see Linux but Win98 can't
Dear Samba List: Thx in advance for all help that can be provided. I have set up a samba server on a RedHat 8.0 box, and I know I've got it configured correctly, because I can do everything I would ever want to do with it with a networked Windows XP laptop. However, a third and fourth machine, both running 98SE, also on the network, cannot see the server, no matter what I try. These two

How to get the c/s 15011(unstable)
Folks, I download the Neocleus 1:1 patch from following link: http://lists.xensource.com/archives/html/xen-devel/2007-05/msg01144.html Currently I want to add Neocleus 1:1 Patch to the xen-3.1.0 to make the HVM guest grab the device directly. When I add these patches and recompile and install the Xen source and try to start the HVM guest, the HVM guest can not start and the system hang.

problem with choose.files
I have recently upgraded to R 2.10.1 on Windows XP and am using scripts that I've used in previous versions successfully. I'm having a problem with choose.files. The lines read: fura_scan_file<-choose.files(caption="Select log file (*.log) for fura-2 scans") PI_scan_file<-choose.files(caption="Select log file (*.log) for PI scans") The problem is that the

Cygwin patch
Building flac 1.0.3 under the latest cygwin craps out in src/libFLAC/file_decode.c and src/flac/file.c for _O_BINARY not being defined. It appears that #include <io.h> is not sufficient to pull in this macro; you need to #include <fcntl.h>. BTW, nice test suite! Talk about exhaustive. If anyone is interested in my Cygwin binaries (no Ogg support), I can provide an encap

Samba4 upgrade compatability
I have an existing install of Samba4 ( I think beta6 vintage ), which uses ntvfs and bind9. It's only providing AD and Group Policy. I have a seperate file server running 3.6.x. I want to add a server to the domain running the most recent RC. I know they are using internal by default and s3fs for the file shares on sysvol. Can s3fs coexist with ntvfs? Can the internal DNS coexist with

Best way to add samba4 to existing domain
I have Samba4 running, and it had a win2k3 server joined to it. This is working great. I'd like to add another Ubuntu 12.04 server with samba4 beta5. What's the best join method? Do I provision the server as a member, then join using samba-tools domain join <domain> When I do it looks like it doesn't replicate the directory, just forwards? Should I provision as a DC with

ControlMaster auto and stderr
I use ControlMaster auto (along with ControlPath) in my ssh config and find it very handy. I have noticed an annoying behavior, though: it seems that if there is no existing master connection and ssh creates a new one, the master connection process that is started has its stderr left open. This has manifested itself in two ways so far: (1) When using ssh day-to-day, I may be doing some work and

Who is going to AstriCon (TheAsteriskConference)?
Well I'm stunned no one has suggested a webcast option. I mean we aren't talking a bunch of people unable to grasp the concepts of chat/voice/vision sessions with a log in/remote display capability. If you think this is an option let me know I have someone who has some software they wouldn't mind stress testing as a trial. Cheers, Dean > -----Original Message----- > From:

specing class methods
Here is an example from autotest: class Autotest def self.run new.run end def new ... end def run ... end ... end How would I spec out Autotest.run? Two complications come to my mind: 1. How do I spec out class methods? (please point me to docs, if any. I can only find class level specing on "partial mocks" (of rails class objects) 2. How can I tell

specing helpers fails on restful routes
Hi, I am trying to spec helper methods in a Rails project, but it seems the specs fail with the error: You might have expected an instance of Array. The error occurred while evaluating nil.<< if the restful routes helper are used either in spec files, or the helper file. What can I be doing wrong? Or how can I fix this. Thanks! -- Surendra Singhi http://ssinghi.kreeti.com,

Specing Rails Views
Hello - I''m currently trying to write some specs for my rails views. My views depend upon the restful authentication plugin method logged_in? Like so, <% if logged_in? %> <ul id="product-admin-nav"> <dd><%= link_to "create a new product", new_product_url %></dd> </ul> <% end %> However, when I have the following
