Recovering a broken mirror
We have a production SunFireV240 that had a zfs mirror until this week. One of the drives (c1t3d0) in the mirror failed. The system was shutdown and the bad disk replaced without an export. I don''t know what happened next but by the time I got involved there was no evidence that the remaining good disk (c1t2d0) had ever been part of a ZFS mirror. Using dd on the raw device I can see data

ZFS data loss
Hi, I have lost a ZFS volume and I am hoping to get some help to recover the information ( a couple of months worth of work :( ). I have been using ZFS for more than 6 months on this project. Yesterday I ran a "zvol status" command, the system froze and rebooted. When it came back the discs where not available. See bellow the output of " zpool status", "format"

Probe ID changes
OK, I''ve been fritzing around with something I noticed last night, thinking that I understood what was going on, but now it''s getting confusing again. A system that has been running for a couple of months had a hole in the probe ID list near the end in the middle of the fbt probes. And then a couple of syscall probes were stuck in the hole. It looked like this: ... 40311

ZFS Hot Spare Behavior
I physically removed a disk (c3t8d0 used by ZFS ''pool01'') from a 3310 JBOD connected to a V210 running s10u3 (11/06) and ''zpool status'' reported this: # zpool status pool: pool01 state: DEGRADED status: One or more devices could not be opened. Sufficient replicas exist for the pool to continue functioning in a degraded state. action: Attach the

Are recursive snapshot destroy and rename atomic too?
In another thread recursive snapshot creation was found atomic so that it is done quickly, and more important, all at once or nothing at all. Do you know if recursive destroying and renaming of snapshots are atomic too? Regards Henrik Heino

snv_42 zfs/zpool dump core and kernel/fs/zfs won''t load.
I''m pretty sure this is my fault but I need some help in fixing the system. It was installed at one point with snv_29 with the pre integration SUNWzfs package. I did a live upgrade to snv_42 but forgot to remove the old SUNWzfs before I did so. When the system booted up got complaints about kstat install because I still had an old zpool kernel module lying around. So I did pkgrm

Need help making lsof work with ZFS
I contacted the author of ''lsof'' regarding the missing ZFS support. The command works but fails to display any files that are opened by the process in a ZFS filesystem. He indicates that the required ZFS kernel structure definitions (header files) are not shipped with the OS. He further indicated that he rummaged through the OpenSolaris source tree and the files doesn''t

Interesting zfs destroy failure
Saw this while writing a script today -- while debugging the script, I was ctrl-c-ing it a lot rather than wait for the zfs create / zfs set commands to complete. After doing so, my cleanup script failed to zfs destroy the new filesystem: root at kronos:/ # zfs destroy -f raid/www/user-testuser cannot unshare ''raid/www/user-testuser'': /raid/www/user-testuser: not shared root

dtrace''ing at module unload time
Hi, I am trying to trace some functions that are executed at detach time, and it seems that just having dtrace around to instrument the module is causing a short circuit, whereas modunload will return (device busy). I understand that this makes sense, but how can I get around this if I want to trace stuff at detach time? Thanks, --S

[zfs] portable zfs send streams (preview webrev)
We have finished a beta version of the feature. A webrev for it can be found here: http://cr.illumos.org/~webrev/sensille/fits-send/ It adds a command ''zfs fits-send''. The resulting streams can currently only be received on btrfs, but more receivers will follow. It would be great if anyone interested could give it some testing and/or review. If there are no objections,

zpool iostat output gets buffered
I''m trying to write a SLAMD (http://www.slamd.com/) resource monitor that can be used to measure the I/O throughput on a ZFS pool, and in particular to be able to get the read and write rates. In order to do this, I''m basically executing "zpool iostat {interval}" and parsing the output to capture the values in the "bandwidth read" and "bandwidth

ZFS block squashing (CAS)
So, I am starting to code this CAS block squashing test and I am wondering if this is something that would more likely extend open Solaris (it does require additional info in zfs metadata that is currently reserved space for future, ie zfs revision++) or if I should code against the FUSE tree where it would could be imported. What type of contribution style is open Solaris? Is zfs

statically compiled files left over after a 'make world'
Hello, I recently did a 'make world' to update my base system due to the realpath bug. After that finished, I noticed that I still had the following statically compiled binaries laying around that did not get updated during a 'make world'. I track 4-STABLE. /usr/bin/miniperl /sbin/mount_kernfs /sbin/mount_devfs /sbin/modunload /sbin/modload /sbin/ft /stand/boot_crunch /stand/find
