passing dataframe col name through cbind()
Hi all ---
I note that the column name of the first column in a dataframe does not necessarily get passed on when using cbind (example below)?
I'm looking for help in clarifying why this behavior occurs, and how I can get all col names, including the first, passed on to the result?while I suspect it's obvious and documented to the cognoscenti, it's puzzling me?
Many thanks for any

Help with Order
Dear List
As a fairly new R programmer I seem to have run into a strange problem -
probably my inexperience with R
After reading and merging successive files into a single data frame, I find
that order does not sort the data as expected.
I have multiple references in each file but each file refers to measurement
data obtained at a different time.
Here's the code

How to work out 3-way probabilities
Hello.
I have a quick question.
I try to use logit regression, to work out probabilities in the sport event.
I have work out probabilities for group of 2 players:
p1 - probability, what player1 will beat player2
p2 - probability, what player2 will beat player1
pt - tie probability, p1 <- 1 - p1 - p2;
Now i want to work out probabilities for group of 3 players, like:
pg1 - probability, what

Youtube broken by 89d295a94
Hello!
The current swfdec from git won't play videos on youtube. I had
bisected the change. 8fc53e76 ("merge the too get_variable functions")
is the last good revision. 89d295a94 ("implement
swfdec_action_get_movie_by_path() and use it for GetVariable") is
broken.
Broken revisions show "share" and "watch" on blinking white background

Confusion about has_many / belongs_to ...
I have a table called players and its model Player, and I have a table
called games and its model Game.
In the games table I have:
player1_id int(11)
player2_id int(11)
I want the tables to be associated so that I can access the player
objects using table.player1 and table.player2 rather than having to
lookup the objects based on the ids.
I am not sure how to go about this but I suspect I

concurrent requests (Rook, but I think the question is more general)
This question involves Rook, but I think the answer will be general
enough that it pays to post here. At any rate, I don't know enough to
know whether this is a Rook only issue or a general R issue.
Here's what I'd like to do (and indeed, have code that should do this):
1. Start R, Rook
2. Start an analysis via a HTTP request to Rook. This analysis uses
.Call() to some compiled C

[LLVMdev] General modular and multiprecision arithmetic
Hi,
I know there's been some talk about bignums already, this is similar to
it, but not exactly the same.
I'm currently using LLVM for my master thesis. The goal is to make a
compiler for zero-knowledge proofs of knowledge protocols. This compiler
should target embedded devices. There's a language called the protocol
implementation language in which these protocols should be

Oracle on ZFS vs. UFS
Hi,
I''m preparing a personal TPC-H benchmark. The goal is not to measure or
optimize the database performance, but to compare ZFS to UFS in similar
configurations.
At the moment I''m preparing the tests at home. The test setup is as
follows:
. Solaris snv_37
. 2 x AMD Opteron 252
. 4 GB RAM
. 2 x 80 GB ST380817AS
. Oracle 10gR2 (small SGA (320m))
The disks also contain the OS

Memory management
I am trying to run a very large Bradley-Terry model using the BradleyTerry2 package. (There are 288 "players" in the BT model).
My problem is that I ran the model below successfully.
WLMat is a win-loss matrix that is 288 by 288
WLdf<-countsToBinomial(WLMat)
mod1<-BTm(cbind(win1,win2),player1,player2,~player,id="player",data=WLdf)
Then I needed to run the same model

Eicon Diva - problems building new v3 melware driver
Hi Armin!
I have problems on debian sarge with standard 2.6.8-2-386 kernel.
I've installed the packages:
kernel-headers-2.6.8-2
kernel-headers-2.6.8-2-386
kernel-image-2.6.8-2-386
kernel-kbuild-2.6-3
kernel-source-2.6.8
Then I unpacked the kernel sources into /usr/src/kernel-source-2.6.8 and
made a symlink from /usr/src/linux --> kernel-source-2.6.8
Then I entered
