associations help?
I have Users who can "own" Projects. There is only one owner. Users in general can be authorized to view certain projects. Here is my initial stab at this: class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :projects # ownership has_many :project_viewers, :dependent => :destroy has_many :projects, :through => :project_viewers, :uniq => true ... end class

PUT- or POST-ing xml
I''d like to write a test of a REST service wherein XML is submitted as the request entity. In Test::Unit on Rails, this seems to be possible in an integration test, but not in a functional test. RSpec uses the Rails functional test framework, as far as I can tell, so it suffers the same result; it tries to symbolize the keys of the ''parameters'' hash, except the

Relating Namespaced Models
I am dealing with a large project. I use a lot of STI and therfore have a lot of models. I''d like to use namespaces to help organize my models but am having trouble getting started. I have a base model Term::Base located in /app/models/term/base.rb: class Term::Base < ActiveRecord::Base set_table_name "terms" end I have a non-namespaced client model: class Client <

1.05 to 1.08
Hi We are looking at moving a project over from 1.05 to 1.08 but have a problem with some of our helper specs They work fine in 1.05 but error in 1.08 and it is the calls to route helper methods that seems to be the problem. I did some playing around .. because the code being tested is reasonably large etc ... but this sample (using the peepcode app) seems to boil down the problem

Feeding the framework ?
Hi there, Is it just me or do many other rspec / rpsec_on_rails users spend more time than they would like feeding the framework ? Don''t get me wrong, I love rpsec, but I seem to spend about 2/3 hours per week hunting down rspec problems. For example, today `rake spec:models` is broken. When I migrate, load fixtures and run `spec -cfs` all is well. When I run `rake spec:models`,

Scaling Matrix in qda() function in MASS package
Hello, I am Souradeep Chattopadhyay and I am a graduate student at Iowa State University Department of Statistics. Can anyone please explain the mathematical formulation behind the scaling matrix returned by the qda function in MASS package. I want to understand how this scaling matrix is derived from the inputs given to the qda function. Example Code The following example is using

Scaling Matrix in qda() function in MASS package
You need to learn how to access code for nonexported methods. See ? "::" > methods(qda) [1] qda.data.frame* qda.default* qda.formula* qda.matrix* see '?methods' for accessing help and source code Shows you that the methods are not exported from the namespace. Hence you need to use the triple colon operator to see their code: > MASS:::qda Once you have the code, I

Meridian case
Hi there, I have a *really* weird issue with rspec on rails: Given a time meridian formatted using %p When I run `rake spec` the time meridian is converted to lower case: expected: "Today 08:00 PM", got: "Today 08:00 pm" Yet when I run `rake spec:models` and `spec -cfs app/models` the specs pass, ie the the time meridian is in upper case. Anyone got any ideas how I

I can''t make RSpec 1.0.8 run in Rails 1.2.3
I followed the directions on the site: ruby script/plugin install svn://rubyforge.org/var/svn/rspec/tags/CURRENT/rspec ruby script/plugin install svn://rubyforge.org/var/svn/rspec/tags/REL_1_0_8/rspec_on_rails ruby script/generate rspec And apparently everything was ok. But when I do a "rake spec" on the app folder none of the Rails models are visible. Here is the error: (in

Scaling Matrix in qda() function in MASS package
I guess the question that is being asked here is what is the scaling matrix that is being returned in the qda object. The help file on qda() says: ... scaling: for each group ?i?, ?scaling[,,i]? is an array which transforms observations so that within-groups covariance matrix is spherical. ... This is a bit ambiguous. I tried a few cases (spectral, QR decomposition, especially given that it is an

Running specs for a plugin - undefined method ''define'' for object
I''m trying to write specs for a plugin I''m developing named audit_fu, and I''m running into a problem which I can''t get past it. I''ve got the same specs setup in the main rails app, and everything works fine there, it''s just running the plugin specs that I''m having a problem with. My setup is: - edge rails - edge rspec (in

spec:models depends on development db:migration
For those interested .... rake spec:models seems to clone the test database from development. If your dev db is empty, the models task fails mysteriously. Anyway, to make sure your dev db is at the current migration version, I added this dependency in lib/tasks task ''spec:models'' => ''db:migrate'' Now the dev db is migrated up with each test pass. problems with textmate and rspec bundle
Folks, I saw David''s tutorial yesterday at RailsConf and started working on RSpec lastnight and am having a *ton* of trouble with the bundle for TextMate. I''ve made *some* progress, but thought I''d throw it to the list * I run ruby, including rb-rubygems using the MacPorts install (per JDD''s Sandboxing Rails) * installed rspec 0.9.4 (also rcov 0.8.0.2 and

Software RAID on Centos 4 - new issue
OK, I have managed to get software RAID 1 running on my wonderful Proliant server but now have two challenges: 1) Fresh after an OS install and reboot, the RAID array starts to do its stuff but straight away (as part of the boot messages) I am told that the second disk is 'not ready for command' and the system hangs as soon as resyncing starts. I think this is fixed by adding an hdparm

dispatch.cgi -> Anonymous modules have no name
I upgraded to Rails 1.2.1 and deployed to my ISP, who has 1.2.1 ready and waiting. The site disappeared into an HTTP 500 error. So I get into the site, run public/dispatch.cgi or dispatch.rb, and get this: # ./dispatch.rb Status: 400 Bad Request /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activesupport-1.4.0/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:405:in `to_constant_name'': Anonymous modules have no
