Poor man''s backup by attaching/detaching mirror drives on a _striped_ pool?
Hi,
one quick&dirty way of backing up a pool that is a mirror of two devices is to
zpool attach a third one, wait for the resilvering to finish, then zpool detach
it again.
The third device then can be used as a poor man''s simple backup.
Has anybody tried it yet with a striped mirror? What if the pool is
composed out of two mirrors? Can I attach devices to both mirrors, let them

Merely rming the file makes it work again. Would be nice if the rules
were always incremental

ZFS with Memory Sticks
OK, I''ve been putting off this question for a while now, but it eating
at me, so I can''t hold off any more. I have a nice 8 gig memory stick
I''ve formated with the ZFS file system. Works great on all my Solaris
PC''s, but refuses to work on my Sparc processor. So I''ve formated it on
my Sparc machine (Blade 2500), works great there now, but not on

ruby help / if (cond or cond)
Why this code doesn''t work as expected? It raises exceptions everytime.
Tried with || operator, too.

record.errors.add (attr, ''between 1 and 100'') if (attr.to_i>100 or
attr.to_i<0)

RHEL (CentOS, Oracle Liux) kernel 2.6.32-358 does not start at XCP
Hi, everyone,
Two days ago I have filed a bug to Red Hat https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=918239
The problem is, that new RHEL-6.4's kernel 2.6.32-358 does not start at HVM on Xen Cloud Platform 1.6 (maybe, also affected XenServer 6.1)
I have tested kernels -358 from CentOS, Oracle and -356 from Red Hat both i686 and x86_64 at 2 different server hardware
The sympthoms: kernel does

asterisk realtime database structure
Hello,
I was wondering if there is a tool that can create the realtime database
structure for latest Asterisk version or a web resource/file containing
the sql scripts. Hope I haven't missed obvious things, I had no luck
searching on the web, in the wiki I found few pages with bits of sql or
table structures, like:

2-way mirror or RAIDZ?
I have a shiny new Ultra 40 running S10U3 with 2 x 250Gb disks.
I want to make best use of the available disk space and have some level of
redundancy without impacting performance too much.
What I am trying to figure out is: would it be better to have a simple mirror
of an identical 200Gb slice from each disk or split each disk into 2 x 80Gb
slices plus one extra 80Gb slice on one of the

Aggregate weights for a unique set of rows
Hi, all together. I have - a maybe trivial - problem with aggregating a
list of weights.
Here is the problem:
- At first I have set of nodes (X/Y-coordinates) and associated weights,
where the set
of nodes is typically not unique
- I want to get a set of unique nodes and the sum of associated weights
I am grateful for any help
See for example:
# weights:
w <- c(1, 1, 1, 1, 1)

Hello all!
I have a problem with R. I want to extract regression coefficients from
summary and use it for compute the theoretical values.
How can I do that in R?
thank you!

qnbinom with small size is slow
Hi all,
I recently noticed that `qnbinom()` can take a long time to calculate
a result if the `size` argument is very small.
For example
qnbinom(0.5, mu = 3, size = 1e-10)
takes ~30 seconds on my computer.
I used gdb to step through the qnbinom.c implementation and noticed
that in line 106
(https://github.com/wch/r-source/blob/f8d4d7d48051860cc695b99db9be9cf439aee743/src/nmath/qnbinom.c#L106)

Thanks Ben for verifying the issue. It is always reassuring to hear
when others can reproduce the problem.
I wrote a small patch that fixes the issue

What does Asterisk need in the way of a GUI?
We are two programmers who are passionate for Asterisk and we will be
dedicating the next three months towards programming for Asterisk and
would like to get some input from everyone on what they feel Asterisk
is lacking or needs based on what is not currently a part of it or
available through third parties. Hopefully, by asking up front we
won't be wasting our time on something nobody wants
