using Paraview "in-situ" with R?
At ORNL, we worked with VisIt (a sibling of Paraview, both funded largely by DOE) around 2016 and made an in situ demo with R. We used packages pbdMPI (on CRAN) and pbdDMAT (on GitHub/RbigData), which were in part built for this purpose. Later also the package hola (on GitHub/RbigData) was built to connect with adios2, which can do buffered in situ connections with various codes.
But the VisIt

using Paraview "in-situ" with R?
I had previously asked about R interfaces to various "other" visualization
tools specifically lightweights for monitoring progress of
various codes. I was working on this,
https://github.com/mmarchywka/mjmdatascope
but in the meantime found out that Paraview has an "in-situ"
capability for similar objectives.

Text Summarization
Is there a text mining/ NLP package in R that could do text summarization?
For example, take a huge text as input and provide a summary of the text.
In package tm, summarization is defined more as high frequency terms which
is not what I want. I actually want a summary of what is present in the huge
volume of text.
Any help on a R package would be helpful. Thank you.

RS232 connection
I installed Board Master a software that control a CNC machine to produce PCB (Printed Circuit Board).
The software install flawlessly but to check if it works I need RS232 working to control CNC machine.
I tried to set connection parameters in Board Master choosing COM1 (the only available) but CNC machine don't move and software keep asking for switching machine on.
Of course software and

tyring to save plots using windoze 7 and cygwin
Hi,
I'd been using R in the past and recently installed it on a new windoze 7 machine.
There have been many issues with compatibility and 32/64 bit apps etc and I did
find on google on isolated complaint that saveplot failed in scripts a long time ago.
R seems to work fine except script-based plot saving as pdf has not worked.
I have tried the following, none of which seem to function,

Stable clock with 2.6 and without Digium hardware.
Anybody sucessfully got stable 1000Hz clock without Digium harware and kernel 2.6?
We need to consult some peoples how to clock asterisk stable with exactly 1000 Hz without much kernel/drives patching/tweaking.
Some test results we made so far:
2.6 with digium card - stable 1000 Hz.
2.6 with ztdummy - uses RTC and the clock is 1024, not 1000.
2.6 with some Realtime kernel patch - provides stable

getGraphicsEvent on X11 and event queuing
Hi R-Devel,
I've been working on an oscilloscope project using an Arduino
microcontroller board. I found that it's quite easy to get realtime
updates, e.g. 30+ frames per second, if I read data from the board in
a little Rcpp library. I have to use dev.hold() and dev.flush() to
keep the plot from flickering, which restricts me to the "cairo" X11
device.
I'd like to be able

can't load nlme on windoze 7
Hi,
I've got a problem that sounds a lot like this,

but it seems to hang with this stack trace,

building goes as follows,

Generating uniformly distributed correlated data.
I wish to generate a vector of uniformly distributed data with a
defined correlation to another vector
The only function I have been able to find doing something similar is
corgen from the library ecodist.
The following code generates data with the desired correlation to the
vector x but the resulting vector y is normal and not uniform
distributed
library(ecodist)
x <- runif(10^5)

How long does skipping in read.table take
I know I could figure it out empirically - but maybe based on your
experience you can tell me if it's doable in a reasonable amount of
time:
I have a table (in .txt) with a 17,000,000 rows (and 30 columns).
I can't read it all in (there are many strings). So I thought I could
read it in in parts (e.g., 1 milllion) using nrows= and skip.
I was able to read in the first 1,000,000 rows no

R-3.0.1 - "transient" make check failure in splines-EX.r
Hello.
I seem to be having the same problem that Paul had in the thread titled "[Rd] R 2.15.2 make check failure on 32-bit --with-blas="-lgoto2"" from October of last year <https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-devel/2012-October/065103.html> Unfortunately, that thread ended without an answer to his last question.
Briefly, I am trying to compile an Rblas for Windows NT 32bit

Optascope port trouble
OPTAscope was produced by Parallax in 2002, but has been discontinued. It's a USB PC Oscilloscope. I used WINE to install it OK, but can't get hardware connected. Using Ubuntu 8.10. Here is how a normal windows install goes. Install software, plug in hardware, "New Hardware found", then go to Device Manager and find port the device assigned. In my case, it was port 3. Go back to

Electronics Workbench 5.2 has misc. problems in Wine
Hello,
I installed Electronics Workbench 5.2 (old version, but I have to import
some work which I did using it) on Wine, mostly it works well, but:
- When I close it, it enters an Access Violation/"Internal Error" loop.
- Can't see text in some controls. For an example, check this image:

unacceptable utility voltage rate of change
Hi,
One of my APC devices reports: "unacceptable utility voltage rate of change".
I believe it has something to do with input voltage fluctuating too fast maybe even beneath or over the input voltage thresholds.
Should I worry about this?
should I measure input voltage? (I suppose I'd need more than multimeter readings. Maybe an oscilloscope or a multimeter that can record

Spatial cluster analysis of continous outcome variable
Dear R Users, R Core
Team,
I have a two dimensional space where I measure a numerical value in two situations at different points. I have measured the change and I would like to test if there are areas in this 2D-space where there is a different amount of change (no change, increase, decrease). I don´t know if it´s better to analyse the data just with the coordinates or if its better to group them

PATA Hard Drive woes
Hi All.
Yesterday I was installing Centos 5.5 to my web server, and
it looks like the main hard drive has gone AWOL.
Fedora 12 put the file system into r/o mode.
The drive is an Hitachi, still under warranty.
There are bad sectors on it, and running the Hitachi DFT
tool confirms this. Also I cannot repair the bad sectors.
Would this be caused by a faulty I/O chip, or is it safe to

Using t tests
Dear Sir,
I am doing some work on a population of patients. About half of them are
admitted into hospital with albumin levels less than 33. The other half have
albumin levels greater than 33, so I stratify them into 2 groups, x and y
respectively.
I suspect that the average length of stay in hospital for the group of
patients (x) with albumin levels less than 33 is greater than those

OT: Differences between test equipment
Hello!
Given the current discusison regarding ztmonitor, line testing, etc., I've
been looking into purchasing a used transmission test set. From my
research, it seems that there are two items that might fit the bill: the
HP 3551A and the HP 4935A.
I know nothing about these specific devices. I *do* have a good
background in electronics, and I understand the concept what they're
