ZFS/iSCSI target integration
Rick McNeal and I have been working on building support for sharing ZVOLs
as iSCSI targets directly into ZFS. Below is the proposal I''ll be
submitting to PSARC. Comments and suggestions are welcome.

ACL issues with ZFS
ZFS introduces a new and incompatible ACL interface into
Solaris and this seems to be not yet fully completed in addition
to the fact that is causes a lot of problems for software that
needs to be compatible with Solaris-2.5 like star.
Proof for incompatibility:
create a file on UFS and set an ACL for this file.
Use Sun tar cpf out file to archive this file.
Unpack this archive file on ZFS

Problem with ZFS and ACL with GDM
I am the maintainer of GDM, and I am noticing that GDM has a problem when
running on a ZFS filesystem, as with Indiana.
When GDM (the GNOME Display Manager) starts the login GUI, it runs the
following commands on Solaris:
/usr/bin/setfacl -m user:gdm:rwx,mask:rwx /dev/audio
/usr/bin/setfacl -m user:gdm:rwx,mask:rwx /dev/audioctl
It does this because the login GUI programs are run as the

Kerberos for authentication?
Greetings!
Are there any plans of using Kerberos for authentication in addition to (or
in place of) SSL certificates in Puppet?
Kerberos provides mutual, cryptographically strong authentication. A number
of different services are Kerberos-enabled (SSH, NFSv4 and HTTP are common
examples), and thus use the same authentication mechanism system-wide. At our
site, almost all services and users are

ZFS ACLs/Samba integration
I''m currently prototyping a Solaris file server that will dish out user
home directories and group project directories via NFSv4 and Samba.
I have samba configured and integrated into our local active directory,
with ACL mapping working. I''m a little confused as to the behavior of the
ZFS ACL though.
on a brand-new filesystem, touching a file results in:

[patch] LOCKED_PASSWD_STRING for FreeBSD
Hi,
I dare to send you this very small patch that defines
LOCKED_PASSWD_STRING for the FreeBSD operating system.
The manpage had been unclear about this for a long time, up to
5.x days. Since 6.x, it has been made clearer, and thanks
to Ceri Davies who highlighted this feature in OpenSSH, I
made this patch.
I hope this will reach OpenSSH source tree. This is not a big
deal and I would add

Does Samba 4 actually respect Unix file acls?
Hello,
After researching the subject on the internet I concluded that Samba should take into account Unix file acls. During my tests I found the opposite. Only Unix file mode bits are respected, and file acls are ignored. If my initial assumption is correct and Samba do respect Unix file acls, then I am doing something wrong. Please see the setup below and point to what I am doing wrong.

No nonodump...
I'm not sure where else to ask about this, so please excuse me if this is
the wrong forum. In trying to remove a 'nodump' flag on a directory with the
'chflags' command I have noticed that the 'nonodump' flag does not function.
I see an open PR for the problem:
o [2003/01/09] i386/46912 johan chflags nonodump fails
I was wondering when this might be dealt with? Else is

OpenSSH-RSAAuth-NFS
Here's a bunch of changes I've made to the current portable version of
OpenSSH.
The aim is that the rsa_authentication flag in sshd_config can be given the
values "without-nfs" This is really handy within a large organization where
incorrectly secured home directories can allow authorized_keys(2) to be
modified by someone other than the owner.
So now rsa_authentication can take

Misc questions
Some miscellaneous questions:
* When you share a ZFS fs via NFS, what happens to files and filesystems that exceed the limits of NFS?
* Is there a recommendation or some guidelines to help answer the question "how full should a pool be before deciding it''s time add disk space to a pool?"
* Migrating pre-ZFS backups to ZFS backups: is there a better method than "restore

After freebsd built everything in the chain of required packages, it
finally built Samba, I did notice two things, one it built

Using Access Control Lists with SMB2/SMB3 Mounts on Linux Clients
Dear all,
what is about the support for POSIX ACL in Samba protocol implementation of SMB2 and SMB3?
>From what I extracted from SNIA and SambaXP developer conference talks and as well as the official Samba Wiki,
support for POSIX ACL in SMB2 and SMB3 has been completely abandonned. Am I right?
If so, is there any other possibility to allow Linux Clients to natively access access control lists

POSIX ACLs on Domain Controller.
Hello samba team !
On my network, I mainly manage my AD users and computers from Unix
using shell scripts. So I would like to set the shares' ACLs directly
from the DC with the POSIX setfacl command.
When exporting with NFSv4, the POSIX ACLs are conserved. I can set the
permissions the same manner as for my local users.
But on DC, the "rwx" right is mapped to "full

ACLs plugin
Hello everybody,
I would like to know if there is a plugin that allow us to manage
advances ACL on a linux system (Debian )
Because for the moment, the idea to use "exec setfacl" to set my ACLs
sounds a little bit "dirty"
Thanks

Monitoring filessytem access
When somebody is hammering on the system, I want to be able to detect who''s
doing it, and hopefully even what they''re doing.
I can''t seem to find any way to do that. Any suggestions?
Everything I can find ... iostat, nfsstat, etc ... AFAIK, just show me
performance statistics and so forth. I''m looking for something more
granular. Either *who* the

Tools/mechanisms for the management of access permissions in big filebased datasets
Thank you. Basically our problem are not the ACLs or their support per
se, but that we have to manage a huge number of individual ACLS (several
hundred users in more than hundred projects) in multi-petabyte
filesystem and still have to keep overview and control. Our problem is
more the management side. Effectively we are looking for a tool that
helps us manage these permissions and we

Copying EAs and ACLs
Hello,
I am the guy behind the ext2/ext3 patches for Extended Attributes and ACLs,
and I've recently been asked about ACL support in rsync by Eric. Upon
investigating I found that you have an ACL patch against rsync-2.5.5 [1]. I
also found some other postings to rsync@lists.samba.org concerning rsync and
ACLs [3].
Are there any plans for finalizing an integrating that rsync ACL patch?
