In memory IndexReader bug?
Hi All, Hope all is going well. I''m having trouble with the following code creating an in memory index reader - it seems to be attempting to read from a file regardless. Here''s the simple code: require ''rubygems'' require ''ferret'' a = Ferret::Index::Index.new r = Ferret::Index::IndexReader.new(nil) Running the code on my OS X machine

Can''t search fields with space
Hi, I have a user model that has a city field which is searchable using acts_as_ferret. But I can''t get it to return any result whether I use :city => {:store => :no, :index => :untokenized}, or :city => {:store => :no} in my User model''s acts_as_ferret option >>> User.find_by_contents("city:(cal poly)") =>

Help with Multiple Readers, 1 Writer scenario
Hi, I''m building a web server application using Ferret [thanks so much Dave], Mongrel and Camping which works fine servicing one request at a time, but serialises searches if more than one request arrives, so I''d like some advice please about the best way to use multiple readers and one writer. Some background ... query requests which in my case are always read only, arrive via

Rewarding exact matches
Is there a way I can get ferret to give the highest ranking to an exact term match? The problem I have right now is that I am searching both title and body fields, so even if I boost the title field, if the body has more instances of the query, then it gets pushed up in rank. I would like for ferret to put exact matches (of the title field) at the very top of the pile, so if I do a

lock problems from concurrent processes.
Hi! First, thanks a LOT for ferret. The API and documentation is great. I''m trying to integrate ferret into a RoR app (DamageControl) and have run into a problem with locks. DamageControl consists of two processes that start up and run in parallel. The first one is the webapp (which is just a plain RoR app). The second is a daemon process that runs in the background. The daemon process

acts_as_ferret : cannot use a customized Analyzer (as indicated in the AdvancedUsageNotes)
Hi all, I cannot make aaf (rev. 220) use my custom analyzer, despite following the indications @ http://projects.jkraemer.net/acts_as_ferret/wiki/AdvancedUsage To pinpoint the problem, I created a model + a simple analyzer with 2 stop words : "fax" and "gsm". test 1 : model.rebuild_index + model.find_by_contents("fax") # fax is a stop word. => I get a

fuzzy search question
Hi, I''ve got a question about FuzzyQueries. Say I''m doing a search for people by name, and I want to allow fuzzy results if there aren''t enough hits with a regular query. This is easy enough; just redo the search with the fuzzy query if original_results.total_hits is less than some threshold. However, I would like the exact-match results to have a higher score

aaf batch_size limits indexing on mssql to 1000 records
hi! after wondering why i can''t find alot of records i eventually found the problem in the sqlserver_adapters implementation of "add_limit_offset!". the problem is when using MSSQL with the sqlserver_adapter paging will only work when at least one column is defined in ":order". for example i was indexing a table with 2912 records, the generated sql for the batches

ANN: acts_as_ferret
Hi all This week I have worked with Rails and Ferret to test Ferrets (and Lucenes) capabilities. I decided to make a mixin for ActiveRecord as it seemed the simplest possible solution and I ended up making this into a plugin. For more info on Ferret see: http://ferret.davebalmain.com/trac/ The plugin is functional but could easily be refined. Anyway I want to share it with you. Regard it as a

Ferret quick dump&load
Hello Dave, Hello all, Some weeks ago, Maz submit a patch to quickly dump or load a ferret database in an other format to prevent index rebuilding (due to changes in the format) or to simplify backup/replication tasks. I re-paste this patch (it was against the 0.10.14) here : http://pastie.caboo.se/43603 Do you think it''s intresting for ferret ? Do you have any plan for this patch ?

Hi, I had ferret working wonderfully but i am regretting doing a gem update today. I had alot of trouble first installing it and was really happy to have it working. The upgrade was from 0.3.1 to 0.4.0. More sorting problems with untokenized index
I''m having problems sorting on untokenized fields. I have one field that sorts fine, but there are others that seem to sort on a different field. Here''s the index description: acts_as_ferret :remote=>true,:fields=>{:name=>{:boost=>2},:name_for_sort=>{:index => :untokenized}, :city=>{:boost=>2}, :city_for_sort=>{:index=>:untokenized},

counting occurences of words in the result set
Hello, I need to be able to count the occurences of certain terms in the reults. Currently my setup is Ferret 0.10.1 aaf bleeding edge. results = VoObject.find_by_contents(query,:offset=>page, :limit=> 20,:sort => sort_fields) I use results.total_hits for pagination. This all works really nicely. However i need to be able to know how many occurences of certain predefined terms occur

FerretHash
Dave, thank you so much for the 0.11 release(s). You have solved many problems for me. As part of my appreciation for your good works, I am offering up for public consideration a silly little class that I wrote. (Code is below.) This class offers a simplified Hash-like interface to (a very restricted subset of) Ferret. Hence I call it FerretHash. FerretHash comes with its very own pet Ferret
