NT_STATUS_MEDIA_WRITE_PROTECTED
Greetings, I am having trouble writing to my Samba share
"//ent1/data". When I connect via smbclient from another machine, I
can navigate and read files, but I can't create a directory or replace
any files; smbclient prints the message:
"NT_STATUS_MEDIA_WRITE_PROTECTED making remote directory \test"
Incidentally, it *used* to work fine until I upgraded my Ubuntu

Rebuilding a Centos 6.2 netinstall initrd with an updated driver?
Thanks for the thoughts. I will not be updating to Centos 6.7 across 200
workstations when Centos 7 is close on the horizon. I've had to use Centos
6.6 for two other non-standard machines in the last few months which is why
I was talking of using it again here. I'd rather not have three CentOS
distributions on the floor, two is enough.
Thanks for confirming what else I would need to do

Rebuilding a Centos 6.2 netinstall initrd with an updated driver?
Hi all,
It seems that with the release of the X99 motherboards, a lot of vendors
are shifting away from using Realtek ethernet on board NICs and using
Intel. Our main distro. on the floor is Centos 6.2 for numerous reasons.
Efforts are being made toward 7.1, but not there yet.
Anyway, the new Intel NICs are recognised by Centos 6.6 netinstall ISO when
booting, but not Centos 6.2. I have had the

Samba Secondary Groups
This has been bugging me for years but never got around to spending a lot of time on it until I now want/need to use it for work stuff.
Problem is simple I get access denied when trying to create a file in a directory that is not owned by me or my primary group that doesn't have world writable permissions. Ive also had similar issues with NFS mounts where I can't move/create/delete files

Classic upgrade fails
I'm attempting to test the classic upgrade method using the instructions
at
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_Classic_Upgrade_(NT4-style_domain_to_AD).
Not wishing to risk any damage to our existing Samba 3 domain I created
a new ldap server and imported our domain ldap into it and am using that
machine as the source ldap server for the upgrade process. The *.tdb
files have been

Winbind - DUAL_SID2UID empty domain?
I am having a strange problem that I thought someone might be help resolve. I am using Samba 3.4.7 at the moment, but I've had the same issue with Samba 3.4.6 and Samba 3.5.2.
NOTE: Domain, hostnames, usernames and SIDs have been changed to protect the guilty.
I am seeing an unable to successfully execute a variety of lookups from wbinfo and I think this is the underlying cause of some

Only administrator works in ldapsam:editposix domain
I tried setting up a samba/ldap domain using the ldapsam:editposix
feature, using the brief instructions at
http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Ldapsam_Editposix.
Everything goes rather smoothly, and I can add XP machines and log
into them as the Administrative user.
I added a user to the server, then to samba/ldap using smbpasswd -a newuser
ldapsearch -x shows the user & encrypted password, so

Yum update gone bad...
Morning list!
I have a situation that was brought about by a system crash during a yum
update. The motherboard suffered a catastrophic failure due to busted
CAPS. Lucky for me (or so I thought at the time), I had a spare,
identical motherboard as the one that failed. I replaced the dud board
and rebooted. This machine runs headless and is my primary
(personal/home) mail server. I normally

Heineken Face EU Fines for Curbing Rivalry
Heineken NV and Carlsberg A/S may be fined after the European Commission charged that they conspired to curb competition in the Dutch and Danish beer markets from 1993 to 1996.
The European Union's antitrust regulator said evidence collected in raids two years ago showed the two brewers broke EU law by agreeing not to sell ``intensively'' in each other's territory. The companies

zfs + NFS + FreeBSD with performance prob
Hi all,
I''m not sure if the problem is with FreeBSD or ZFS or both so I cross-post
(I known it''s bad).
Well I''ve server running FreeBSD 9.0 with (don''t count / on differents
disks) zfs pool with 36 disk.
The performance is very very good on the server.
I''ve one NFS client running FreeBSD 8.3 and the performance over NFS is
very good :

Backup and Restore strategy in Gluster FS 3.8.4
Not so fast, 3.8.4 is the latest if you are using official RHEL rpms
from Red Hat Gluster Storage, so support for that should go through
your Red Hat subscription. If you are using the community packages,
then yes, you want to update to a more current version.
Seems like the latest is: 3.8.4-44.el7

Home-Shares are not writeable
Hello everyone!
After running Samba on several machines for some years, I just came
accross a rather strange problem. The short story is that the special
user home shares are readable, but not writeable.
Here's the long story: The system is a freshly set-up Debian Squeeze,
right out of the box. This is the Samba config:

LANG=en_US, Xlib: connnection errors
This is odd but I'm trying to get the most elementary sides of WINE down. I
have gotten it to attempt to run write.exe out of my windows directory. but
upon doing so it comes up with the LANG errors which I don't think is
catastrophic. (I might be wrong) and then it comes up with these errors:
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: Invalid MIT_MAGIC_COOKIE-1 key

Hi!
While talking on cosmetics: I noticed that a few lines significantly exceed the 80-column limit without obvious need. See attachment for an example.

MIGRATE SHARES always fails
Hi,
I have an Ubuntu 8.04 box running as Samba PDC (version 3.0.28a) with
an LDAP backend, and I tried to migrate a share from a Win2003 server
to the Samba box. However, running the "migrate shares" or the
"migrate files" commands always results in errors:
$ net rpc share MIGRATE SHARES data_share -S w2k3box -U <admin>
--destination=localhost
