Partial install question
Hi, folks,
I've got an older server which can't be upgraded to a current OS for
$REASONS on which I need to update some or all of the openssh programs and
utilities, specifically sftp.
My thought is to either install it in /usr/local (or
/usr/local/openssh) and have folks alter their paths, or build it there and
use symlinks (probably the better choice) into /usr/bin.

No MySQL password in ps aux!
I just noticed that some CentOS 4 or 5 machine that I don't admin but
have root access to hides MySQL passwords from ps:
Console 1:
$ mysql -u root -pSECRET

Console2:
# ps aux
root 32165 0.0 0.1 109408 2204 pts/1 Ss+ 11:19 0:00 mysql
-u root -px xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
That is really nice, is it a MySQL feature or a CentOS feature? I have
some other servers that I _do_

Possibly Missing Syscalls from Seccomp Filter
Hi!
I'm investigating the seccomp filter in openssh and I wanted to know
whether the following system calls should be added to the filter:

3.4p1: 'buffer_append_space: alloc 10506240 not supported'
I have been trying to install 3.4p1 on a number of machines.
Servers on ia64 Linux, i386 Linux and SPARC Solaris are all working
like charms. On the other hand, I am having trouble at least with
HPUX 11, DEC OSF 5.1 and Unixware: on all those systems, sshd bails
out after authentication with an error in buffer_append_space.
Here is the output of sshd -d on the UnixWare machine

problem with AuthorizedKeysCommand on OpenBSD
Hi,
I'm attempting to test the AuthorizedKeysCommand feature with the new
port of ssh-ldap-wrapper to OpenBSD. I'm running yesterday's
OpenBSD-current i386 snapshot, which includes AuthorizedKeysCommand.
The port of ssh-ldap-helper (at
http://old.nabble.com/-new--ssh-ldap-helper-td34667413.html) contains
all the bits I need, and the individual pieces appear to work once

OpenSSH tmp cleanup
Hi,
I noticed that Markus has fixed the temporary file cleanup problems in
OpenSSH cvs. What files need patching for this ? I only noticed
changes in: session.c, channels.h and channels.c.

uidswap
All,
Could someone explain the purpose of the uidswap functions with
respect to ssh ( the client ). From what I gathered , ssh installs as
setuid root and swaps ids when reading potential key files that may be read
only by root. Also , I think when binding to a privileged port ssh swaps
id. Is that so? What are the consequnences if you do not install ssh setuid
root? ( As far I as know no uid

Tailing Error
Hi,
I''m trying to use the command tail and it keeps on saying: ''tail'' is not
recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch
file. I''ve installed the gem ''file-tail'' to try to solve this, but I''m
not really sure that this gem is what I''m looking for cuz it still
doesn''t work.
Thanks

Disconnecting: protocol error: rcvd type 98
When I SSH using protocol 1 from a Debian box running OpenSSH 2.9p2-4
to a sparc.sunos5 box running vanilla OpenSSH 2.9.1, after a little
while (of inactivity?) I get the following message on the client
terminal:
Disconnecting: protocol error: rcvd type 98
Looking further, this message is actually caused by the SSH daemon.
However, I'm at a loss to determine why sshd is doing this.

wbinfo -t fails with W2K3 ADS as PDC
Hello all,
I am attempting to set up Squid and have the authentication occur onto a
Windows 2003 ADS server (enterprise edition- if it matters), hostname
W2003. I have followed instructions listed at:
http://itmanagers.net/Documents/File/walkthroughs/~Linux@Squid/Squid+and+Samba+3+-+Walkthrough.html
and have spent numerous hours(+15) attempting this.
However, I can't seem to get past the
