problem restoring via rsync when using stored ACLs (--fake-super)
Hello,
In summary, i appear to have encountered a bug when attempting to
restore files using rsync 3.0.0pre4 (matt) with stored ACLs (via
--fake-super). The ACL information appears to be correctly stored as
xattrs on the backup server; however, when i attempt to restore while
preserving the ACL data, i get the following error:
ERROR: out of memory in get_xattr_data [sender]

Samba 3 dms doesn't allow access through interdomain trust
Hello everyone!
I have a little problem:
HRH = trusted domain (Samba 3)
Hendricks = trusting domain (NT4 sp6a)
Trusts are setup between the NT4 and Samba3 + OpenLDAP domain and
appear to be working properly.
When logged into the HRH domain on a W2k workstation I can view, read,

shares for HRH groups and users on our Windows file servers. Whenever

creating directories not specified in '--files-from' file
Hi all,
I use 'rsync' in my backup program and I've run into an annoying bug.
If I specify a directory to be backed up all files in it are copied
automatically. This is a problem because a user may have selected
specifically to not backup a given file. Also if a subdirectory exists
in a specified directory it is also copied though do data below it is.
I call 'rsync'

Unfortunate results from fake-super
When using fake-super mode in an rsync receiver, anything that's neither a
file nor a directory (e.g. devices, symlinks, etc) is converted into a file,
and properties such as original ownership, filetype, and permissions are
stored in a specific extended attribute.
In the case of a symlink, the contents of the link are stored in a plain
file. The original mode of the symlink is normally

How do I restore using --fake-super?
For your situation I think you should use both --fake-super and -M--super
because reading the manual it says:
"For a local copy, this option affects both the source and the destination.
If you wish a local copy to enable this option just for the destination
files, specify -M--fake-super. If you wish a local copy to enable this
option just for the source files, combine --fake-super with

How do I restore using --fake-super?
Hi all,
I have a backup that was created with --fake-super that I need to restore to a fresh partition on the same machine as the backup (source and destination on the same machine).
The docs describe how --fake-super is used to make the backup, but none of the docs describe how you do the reverse and restore.
Google is hallucinating some nonsense, so that's a dead end.
Can anyone confirm

-vn doesn't list empty directories, -v does
I'm using rsync-2.5.7-2 on an updated Fedora Core 1 athlon system.
The -vn option lists all files to be copied or deleted, including
symlinks, but it does not appear to list empty directories to be
copied, even tough it copies them. It does list empty directories to
be deleted. The -v option does list and copy empty directories. -v
should behave the same in both instances, and the desired

ZFS volume turned into a socket - any way to restore data?
I have recently upgraded from NexentaStor 2 to NexentaStor 3 and somehow one of my volumes got corrupted. Its showing up as a socket. Has anyone seen this before? Is there a way to get my data back? It seems like it''s still there, but not recognized as a folder. I ran zpool scrub, but it came back clean.

building with SSL support in non-std directories
I'm trying to get configure to find the right libs/includes to build with SSL support (openssl), but it just seems to refuse!
I tried passing " --with-ssl=openssl --with-ssldir=/usr/local/ssl ", but this didn't seem to help.
In /usr/local/ssl is:

I have (what look to ls and rm) as empty directories. But when I try to
rmdir, returns "Directory not empty". This has gone through a reboot
(several actually). Any ideas what I can do?
