Low performance when using "server signing" = "mandatory"
Hello, I have updated my system to Debian 12 with Samba 4.17.12, but the problem with performance still exist. On the Samba page there is a note in the CVE-2016-2114 description: "Note that the default for server roles other than active directory domain controller, is "off" because of performance reasons." https://www.samba.org/samba/security/CVE-2016-2114.html Does it mean

Running nessus on freebsd...
I'm trying to get nessus setup for doing some internal security checking. I installed the ports for nessus and nessus-plugins, and everything worked as expected. I then registered for the full feed of plugins, which got me up to over 10,000 plugins. I restarted nessus, and it didn't work at all. I am running without X11, so I'm doing batch runs. I already have nmap installed, so I

Samba integration with AD
I know this question has been posed over and over (and over) again, but I'm at my wit's end. I've dug into the Samba docs, Gentoo specific docs, and PAM docs, and Googled the heck out of it... In any event, I'm running Gentoo 2006.0 (just built) running kernel 2.6.15 and Samba 3.0.21b. I'm 'trying' to set up a simple file server with SSO capabilities to a 2K AD

Login scripts based on group
I have users that belong to several groups. I want a logon script to be run for each of the groups to which a user belongs. For example, when I logon, I want admin.bat, users.bat, and someothergroup.bat to run. On Novell I used to use 'if Member of groupName...', but I don't know how to do this in Samba.. Thanks, Dean

core dumps with 3.0.23c
I have a fedora core 5 server running samba-3.0.23c-1.fc5 from fedora updates. Recently I changed smb.conf to use security=domain instead of security=user. The server that it authenticates against is running fedora core 4 with samba-3.0.14a-2. Anyway, this setup worked just fine for a couple of weeks, but today I yum updated many packages including pam, glibc and kernel on the fedora 5

LDAP NULL BASE Search Access to Samba4
Recently, i scanned my samba4.1 server by Nessus (a vulnerability scanner tool - http://www.tenable.com/products/nessus) Nessus says that Samba4 is vulnerable to "LDAP NULL BASE Search Access" as "The remote LDAP server may disclose sensitive information." Further it says that - The remote LDAP server supports search requests with a null, or empty, base object. This allows

samba security question - samba vulnerable to anyWindowsExploits?
Paul, Are you using Samba to authenticate then? You've created user accounts on your Linux system that map to Windows accounts and built the Samba password database using 'smbpasswd'? ry -----Original Message----- From: samba-bounces+ryanfrantz=informed-llc.com@lists.samba.org [mailto:samba-bounces+ryanfrantz=informed-llc.com@lists.samba.org] On Behalf Of Paul Bradshaw Sent:

vfs_shadow_copy2 with snapprefix & delimiter options in samba 4.6.2
Hi (+mailing list again for the archives) My config which does show previous versions: # /usr/local/samba/sbin/smbd --version Version 4.6.11 To avoid having this config block within in each share, I define the following within the [global] section:   shadow:snapprefix = ^\(monthly\)\{0,1\}\(weekly\)\{0,1\}\(daily\)\{0,1\}$   shadow:delimiter = _UTC_   shadow:format =

vfs_shadow_copy2 with snapprefix & delimiter options in samba 4.6.2
Hi, I notice you're using 4.6.2 and I'm using 4.6.11. I made the following comment at some point within [global]:   #disable "unix extensions" to avoid using "allow insecure wide links"   #  for access to ../xxxx_SNAPS for BTRFS "previous versions" snapshots   #  --it seems to have reverted once more to not need the below two settings   ##unix

ACL's vs Share definitions (Trying again)
I have the Win2000 client(s) in a Samba domain. Domain authentication works fine, my "homes" share works fine, remote profiles work fine. Using 3.0.1Pre1 I would like to add people to "someshare" through the Security tab, and control their access through windows ACL's. How should I setup a share as a basis for doing this? The share below (someshare) in this email
