zfs block allocation strategy
Hi, quoting from zfs docs "The SPA allocates blocks in a round-robin fashion from the top-level vdevs. A storage pool with multiple top-level vdevs allows the SPA to use dynamic striping to increase disk bandwidth. Since a new block may be allocated from any of the top-level vdevs, the SPA implements dynamic striping by spreading out writes across all available top-level vdevs" Now,

Maildir + NFS + multiple machines = spectacular failure
I'm running beta7 on two machines, with maildir on NFS. I have lockd running on all machines. I've found that Dovecot is highly unstable with NFS when accessing a mailbox on more than one machine at the same time. Both dovecot machines have: mmap_disable = yes lock_method = fcntl NFS is version 3, exported from a third linux machine. All machines are running 2.6.9 kernel. Any ideas

Shell Scripting Random Delay
I have a shell script that's run every 5 minutes I use to call many other shell scripts. Is there a way to wait a random number of seconds before executing each line? Something like this. wait_random 10 - 180 (perl /scripts/my_script.pl) & wait_random 10 - 180 (perl /scripts/my_script5.pl) & wait_random 10 - 180 (perl /scripts/my_script7.pl) & I have many entries in this file

Hi, I have two questions: 1) Is there any way of renaming zpool without export/import ?? 2) If I took hardware snapshot of devices under a zpool ( where the snapshot device will be exact copy including metadata i.e zpool and associated file systems) is there any way to rename zpool name of snapshotted devices ?? without losing data part? Thanks & Regards, sridhar. -- This message posted

ZFS with Memory Sticks
OK, I''ve been putting off this question for a while now, but it eating at me, so I can''t hold off any more. I have a nice 8 gig memory stick I''ve formated with the ZFS file system. Works great on all my Solaris PC''s, but refuses to work on my Sparc processor. So I''ve formated it on my Sparc machine (Blade 2500), works great there now, but not on

Nested loop and output help
Hello Everyone, My name is Thomas and I have been using R for one week. I recently found your site and have been able to search the archives of posts. This has given me some great information that has allowed me to craft an initial design to an inquiry I would like to make into the breakdown of McNemar's test. I have read an intro to R manual and the posting guides and hope I am not violating

Problem with rsync recent file logic ?
Hello, I have 2 servers I'm synchronizing using rsync, I have a situation where I : 1. rsync from rnd-dev2 to rnd-dev1 2. change the rsynched file on rnd-dev1 3. rsync from rnd-dev2 to rnd-dev1 again 4. File gets overridden on rnd-dev1 over though it has newer change time then file on rnd-dev2. here is the bug(?) reproduction: [root@rnd-dev1 test_rsync]# rsync --version rsync version

newlines with write-append
Silly bash scripts have stuff like below to get things done, but equally silly guestfish scripts fail to add the required newline. Why is that? echo "$dev1 $mnt1 $fs $opts 1 2" >> /etc/fstab echo "$dev2 $mnt2 $fs $opts 1 2" >> /etc/fstab write-append /etc/fstab "$dev1 $mnt1 $fs $opts 1 2" : \ write-append /etc/fstab "$dev2 $mnt2 $fs $opts 1 2"

Renaming a pool?
Hi all, I have a pool called tank/home/foo and I want to rename it to tank/home/bar. What''s the best way to do this (the zfs and zpool man pages don''t have a "rename" option)? One way I can think of is to create a clone of tank/home/foo called tank/home/bar, and then destroy the former. Is that the best (or even only) way? TIA, -- Rich Teer, SCSA, SCNA, SCSECA,

Capistrano and multiple Dev environments?
I have working copies of code in development on multiple places - work machine, home machine, laptop, etc. I can''t always force these machines to use the same credentials; I end up with each machine having slightly different database.yml configurations. With Subversion-Pre-Capistrano, I left the entire config directory out of Subversion (or some kind of template; see

On efficiency, Vectorize and loops
In my last e-mails, I have asked for help regarding 1. 'defining functions inside loops' 2. 'integrating functions / vector arithmetics' 3. 'vectors out of lists?' 4. 'numerical integration' Since some of these topics seemed to be relevant (I'm guessing by the # of replies I got), I'm posting a modified section of my code. Any thoughts on improvements would

2-way mirror or RAIDZ?
I have a shiny new Ultra 40 running S10U3 with 2 x 250Gb disks. I want to make best use of the available disk space and have some level of redundancy without impacting performance too much. What I am trying to figure out is: would it be better to have a simple mirror of an identical 200Gb slice from each disk or split each disk into 2 x 80Gb slices plus one extra 80Gb slice on one of the

ZFS Scalability/performance
Hello, I''m quite interested in ZFS, like everybody else I suppose, and am about to install FBSD with ZFS. On that note, i have a different first question to start with. I personally am a Linux fanboy, and would love to see/use ZFS on linux. I assume that I can use those ZFS disks later with any os that can work/recognizes ZFS correct? e.g. I can install/setup ZFS in FBSD, and later use

SV: How does asterisk behave when multiple phonesare logged in on a single SIP/account?
Yeah I do use ring groups at the moment. But the problem is that I can't control "the flow". Let's take your example. dial(SIP/dev1&SIP/dev2&SIP/dev3) If I dial these 3 numbers, and dev2 is already one the phone. How do I check for that? I only want one of the three phones active at the time. But if no telephone is busy, they all should ring until the call is

[PATCH 1/2] options: Fixes and enhancements to --key parsing.
The first patch fixes a rather serious bug, the second patch allows multiple --key parameters and default parameters. There is a third patch to libguestfs which adds a test, coming up. I did not yet review and fix the documentation. I think we need to centralize it in one place because at the moment the same documentation for --key is copy/pasted all over the tools. Rich.
