Hello, I will try to concentrate in this post the informations about the configurations that i''m deploying, thinking that it should be usefull for somebody else.. The objective of my tests is: High Availability services with ZFS/NFS on solaris 10 using a two-node Sun Cluster. The scenarios are two: 1) Using "shared discs" (global devices). 2) Using "non-shared

Rsync and DTrace
Hello all.. Using dtrace on solaris 10, i could investigate a performance issue with the sincronization of some files on a ZFS filesystem. I have started the follow rsync command (inside a gnome-terminal): /opt/sfw/bin/rsync -av -e ssh user@IP:/DirA/DirB . The current directory(.), was a ZFS pool with two SATA discs (mirror)... The performance was terrible. After some tests with raid0,

rsync efficiency
Hello all, I have a doubt that i think you hackers of rsync has the answer. ;-) I have make this post on my blog: http://www.posix.brte.com.br/blog/?p=312 to start a serie about the copy-on-write semantics of ZFS. In my test "VI" did rewrite the whole file just for change 3 bytes, so the whole file was reallocated. What i want to know from you is about the techniques used by rsync

inittab - huh what's it good for?
We run a CentOS-5 based hylafax server with external serial modems. We are transitioning to an Asterisk system using IAXmodem running on CentOS-6. On the CentOS-5 system to start the fax modems we added these lines to inittab: # Add fax lines and always ALWAYS run "telinit q" after making a change. fax1:2345:respawn:/usr/sbin/faxgetty ttyS0 fax2:2345:respawn:/usr/sbin/faxgetty ttyS1

Clarify TTY and virtual consoles
Hi, I need some help to clarify TTY and virtual consoles. Thanks a lot. 1. I learned that to switch from one TTY to another, one must be at the physical machine. Does the same apply to virtual consoles? 2. My /etc/inittab includes the following. Does that mean there's only one instance of TTY on my CentOS? ... #

read/write NFS block size and ZFS
Hello all... I''m migrating a nfs server from linux to solaris, and all clients(linux) are using read/write block sizes of 8192. That was the better performance that i got, and it''s working pretty well (nfsv3). I want to use all the zfs'' advantages, and i know i can have a performance loss, so i want to know if there is a "recomendation" for bs on nfs/zfs, or

zfs crashes with nfs and snapshots
Hi folks, I just saw one of my FreeBSD servers (7.0-stable of June 2008) crash while trying to access the .zfs snapshot directory via a nfs client machine. The server got a page fault caused by the nfsd process. It wasn't even able to dump the kernel image anymore. Resetting the machine it first appeared to come back fine, but shortly before the login prompt the nfsd let it crash hard again

Round-robin NFS protocol with ZFS
Hello all, I was thinking if such scenario could be possible: 1 - Export/import a ZFS filesystem in two solaris servers. 2 - Export that filesystem (NFS). 3 - Mount that filesystem on clients in two different mount points (just to authenticate in both servers/UDP). 4a - Use some kind of "man-in-the middle" to auto-balance the connections (the same IP on servers) or 4b - Use different

Please ignore that and address only the following message: Hi, I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but I really couldn't find it anywhere on the web and if you could only provide me with a quick hint, it would be really helpful! Hi all, I need to launch X-Windows at runlevel 4 and 5. CentOS only start up x-windows at runlevel by default. I have modified /etc/inittab to accomplish this: x:4:respawn:/etc/X11/prefdm -nodaemon x:5:respawn:/etc/X11/prefdm -nodaemon But this returns errors every time that start and stop system ... Which is the correct form to launch x-windows under centos at different runlevels?? Many

upstart question
I am trying to migrate from old /etc/inittab to upstart. I am close. I used to have 2 or 4 lines in /etc/inittab to start 2 or 4 processes. v1:2345:respawn:/home/silentm/bin/myfile -port 4000 v2:2345:respawn:/home/silentm/bin/myfile -port 5000 something like that... So now I create a file /etc/init/myfile.conf and in it I put: respawn script /home/silentm/bin/myfile -port 4000

Hi Daniel, Yes, thanks and I should have mentioned that I am using pretty much the same thing you suggested on my routers, but for whatever reason couldn?t get that approach working on the linux box in question. Mark, Thanks for the upstart script. I had tried to do the same myself but couldn?t get my upstart script to work right. I was missing the ?-D? flag in my script. Added that and now

Icecast2 Beta 1 hijacks CPU
I'm running Icecast 2 Beta 1 which satisfies my needs - high quality audio serving @ reasonably low bitrates. The problem is however that it tends to hog the CPU resources after having run for like a day/day and a half. Source and client connections fail when this happens. I'm using psmon to monitor icecast (respawn when it dies or kill/respawn when it starts to eat CPU). I use
