Stubbing Kernel.` (backquote)
I''m trying to stub(!) the Kernel.` (backquote) method and I''m having confusing (to me) results. Here''s the method I''m spec''ing: class Barcode ... def raw_barcodes self.make_temporary_copy `OcrBarcode #{self.temp_file_path}` end ... end And this is my (newbish) attempt at the spec: describe "Calling @barcode.raw_barcodes" do

Icecast won't start on system boot
Ya know, I think I'm going to uninstall whatever Icecast we have, then re-install it--after doing a backup first, of course! :-) This is just getting too weird. iptables command to view just nat/forward info by ip
Hi there... does anyone know of a handy iptables command to look at existing nat rules? I tried: iptables -t nat -L Which was close, but the problem is that the DNAT and SNAT list the reverse DNS for the IP's, when I would rather see just pure IP's. I have been reading the man pages and google looking for an answer as well. Thanks!

VNC Remote Install Disk
Hey there - I have a tutorial i wrote for my own docs - not sure if you guys want it on the centos wiki. It is a custom centos server 4X disk in which the install connects to a remote listening VNC viewer. The purpose of this disk is simple - to be able to install a second system with centos without having to hook up a keyboard/mouse/monitor. This second machine is my test machine, and I

sh DTrace provider available
As noted on my blog and at http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/dtrace/shells/ I''ve made available a DTrace provider for the Bourne shell. Before anyone starts yelling at me for not starting with another shell, read the blog I made explaining why we started with shell (link on the community page referenced above). For /bin/sh, I''ve put up something akin to a chapter in

Centos firewall/router issue
Good day everyone. Today has been "one of those..." days. So I have a feeling this is just a brain lapse here. At any rate, I am setting up a firewall/router using centos 4.4 (minimal install, yummed up to date). I have in fact enables V4 ip forwarding (by editing /etc/sysctl.conf) and rebooted the system. I use fwbuilder for my rules, and at this point have a next to nothing set of

[nbdkit PATCH v2 16/17] sh: Test for fd leaks
Various patches before this one plugged fd leaks of files opened within nbdkit that the shell script need not see. It's time to add testsuite coverage to ensure we don't regress. However, a user may intentionally want to expose an open fd to nbdkit, which in turn remains available all the way through to the shell script, so nbdkit does not close unrecognized inherited fds at startup.

rsync 2.5.4 (probably 2.5.5 too) server handles SIGPIPE very poorly
(I am not on the rsync mailing list, so if you send a response to this message to the list, please be sure to CC me.) I first reported this bug go Red Hat in <URL:https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=65350>. If you run rsync with a subshell through ssh.com's ssh and sshd and then kill the client with ctrl-C, the rsync server process running on the remote machine grows
