Problems with Adobe flash-plugin and Firefox-3.5.x under CentOs-5.3 (yum up to date) => libcurl.so.3/libcurl.so.4 missing

Centos-4.3: Filelocking problems under high [network related] load with kernel 2.6.9-42.0.3.ELsmp
Hi, first of all, please CC me on any reply, as I am only subscribed to the digest. OK. Here is the problem. Said kernel (from 4.4) seems to have problems with file-locking when the system is under high, likely network related, load. The symptoms are things using file locking (rpm, the user-space automounter amd) fail to obtain locks, usually stating timeout problems. The sytem in question is

Problems with Adobe flash-plugin and Firefox-3.5.x under CentOs-5.3 (yum up to date)
Hi, I am running 32-bit Firefox-3.5.3 on Centos-5.3 (64-bit kernel) on a Dell Precision M65 laptop. This is likely a Adobe problem, but maybe someone else has seen this before. Please CC me, as I only receive the digest version of the list. When using the 10.0.32.18-release version of the flash-plugin, trying to access *any* page containing flash (e.g. www.adobe.com) causes the browser to

Problems with RhostRSAAuthecntication and UsePrivilegeSeparation (RH9, 2.4.20-42.9.legacybigmem)
Hi, for some days now I am/was fighting with an annoying problem. I have to support an environment where RhostRSAAuthecntication via /etc/ssh/sshd_known_hosts is used for password-less login. This works fine with RH7.3 (and RH8) and openssh versions openssh-3.1p1-3 (and openssh-3.4p1-2). Our customer has now requested an upgrade to RH9. That comes with openssh-3.5p-11 and the password-less

Kernel paging request error
Reposting from xen-users (no response) I''m having a problem with: http://pastebin.com/CuGHqwhy It occurs on the reboot, but sometimes, when I try to start manually one of my machines. Sometime, one of the machines does not want to start permanently and I have to reinstall/restore it. This problem comes for me randomly, but maybe there is a trigger. I''ve tried to follow:

grDevices::convertColor XYZ space is it really xyY?
grDevices::convertColor has arguments 'from' and 'to' which can take on value 'XYZ'. Can someone confirm that 'XYZ' is the same as the CIE chromaticity coordinates that are also sometimes refered to as 'xyY' in the literature? Or are these the CIE tristimulus values? It looks to me like the first case is true, but I would appreciate hearing from one of

lower.tail option in pnorm
Hi, I would have thought that these two constructions would produce the same result but they do not. Resp <- rbinom(10, 1, 0.5) Stim <- rep(0:1, 5) mm <- model.matrix(~ Stim) Xb <- mm %*% c(0, 1) ifelse(Resp, log(pnorm(Xb)), log(1 - pnorm(Xb))) pnorm(as.vector(Xb), lower.tail = Resp, log.p = TRUE) > ifelse(Resp, log(pnorm(Xb)), log(1 - pnorm(Xb))) [1] -0.6931472 -1.8410216

speeding up "sum of squared differences" calculation
All, I am using a sum of squared differences in the objective function of an optimization problem I am doing and I have managed to speed it up using the outer function versus the nested for loops, but my suspicion is that the calculation could be done even quicker. Please see the code below for a simple example. If anyone can point out a faster way I would appreciate it greatly. Thanks, Roger

Trouble with Mailman
I have set up Mailman on a virtual private server from 1and1 running Centos, though I can't tell which version. The system has 2 GB of memory. Mailman is receiving posts, but it is not sending them out to everybody. It is also getting some out-of-memory errors. The server is also runing Plesk for Web hosting. Something on the server is leaking memory. When first booted it has nearly 1.5

plotting predicted curves with log scale in lattice
Hi, I was taken off guard by the following behavior in a lattice plot. I frequently want to add a predicted curve defined at more points than in the formula expression of xyplot. There have been numerous examples of how to do this on r-help, but I still often struggle to make this work. I just realized that specifying one of the axes on a log scale does not guarantee that the added data for a

lines through points in lattice legend
Hi, I'm struggling to find if there is a simple way to make the lines and points overlap in a legend for a lattice plot using auto.key. ?Here is a toy example of what doesn't work (for me) as the lines and points are adjacent rather than overlapping: library(lattice) d <- data.frame(x = 1:2, y = 1:4, f = factor(letters[1:2])) xyplot(y ~ x, d, groups = f, type = "b",? pch =

Multiple comparisons with a glm
I've never seen anything written about multiple comparisons, as in the multcomp package or with TukeyHSD, but using a glm. Do such procedures exist? Are they sensible? Are there any packages in R that implement such comparisons? using scan to record user's input
I'm using scan in a script to record a series of responses of the user as a function of some graphs that I put up on the screen. A toy version would be, y <- rep(NA, 3) for (ix in seq( length(y) ) ) { y[ix] <- scan( n = 1 ) } However, if I include any code after this loop, for example, y <- rep(NA, 3) for (ix in seq( length(y) ) ) { y[ix] <- scan( n = 1 ) } y I get an error
