Asterisk at OSCON?
Following up on some posts here a few weeks ago about a gathering of Asterisk geeks at the upcoming OSCON in Portland. There are a bunch of tentative-sounding "We ought to meet heres" and the like. Is it appropriate to try to set things up a bit more specifically at this point? Thx. B.

Dovecot in OSCON 2009?
Hi, I'm thinking about attending OSCON 2009 with some other people from Mailtrust and having some kind of an informal Dovecot meeting nearby. We could for example talk about what Dovecot would need to work better in your system, like missing features or if some things are annoyingly difficult etc, or just general talking and socializing. If you're interested in joining, send me a

Minimal Kickstart setups to use with Puppet
Hi, I was at the Puppet talk at Oscon and I would like to try using Puppet for PXE on RHEL machines and I was wondering if there are standard minimal Kickstart recipes from which Puppet can then take over. Thanks, Jason van Zyl jason at maven.org

PHP probes
Hi all, I remember at OSCON 2005 there was talk of adding DTrace probes to PHP (in fact, I have a photo of Bryan and Wes working on it!). Did they ever get into the upstream branch, ''cause I don''t recall seeing a --enable-dtrace (or similar) configuration option when I recently built PHP 5.2.1. If not, is there an ETA? win32-ipc question
Hi all, I recently had a question on win32-event and win32-ipc on IRC, so I thought I should get around to documenting it. I had a couple questions, though. First, what does one do with an IPC object? I originally thought this would be a module that you mixed in but it appears to be a class. Second, does anyone have a good example of how to use win32-event (using the CVS version)? I

ZIL SSD performance testing... -IOzone works great, others not so great
Hi folks, I would appreciate it if someone can help me understand some weird results I''m seeing with trying to do performance testing with an SSD offloaded ZIL. I''m attempting to improve my infrastructure''s burstable write capacity (ZFS based WebDav servers), and naturally I''m looking at implementing SSD based ZIL devices. I have a test machine with the

Client/server test harness - Crucible 1.6
Hi all, At OLS last month I presented about doing automated client/server testing of NFSv4. In and after that talk there was some discussion with Steve French about using the same framework for testing Samba, so I thought it might be worthwhile to post about the framework on this list. We've also just put out a new 1.6 release of Crucible; I've attached the release notice below. The

Is write(2) made durable atomically?
Will a write(2) to a ZFS file be made durable atomically? Under the hood in ZFS, writes are committed using either shadow paging or logging, as I understand it. So I believe that I mean to ask whether a write(2), pushed to ZPL, and pushed on down the stack, can be split into multiple transactions? Or, instead, is it guaranteed to be committed in a single transaction, and so committed atomically?

CentOS Summit?
Hello, I am writing to gauge interest in holding a gathering for CentOS users, admins and developers? A conference is a fun and efficient way for like-minded individual to meet, learn about each other, share stories, exchange ideas, provide support and friendship, and come up with even better ideas for the future. If there is sufficient interest, I would be willing to help organize. Perhaps an

Suggestions for web site
Hi there, The links to the documentation of Puppet in the right side of the page seems to be ordered alphabetically, I find confusing to access the documentation using the current menu. I think it would make sense to order them according to some "natural" order for reading it. I mean, maybe it should be something like Index, Introduction, Installation, Language Tutorial... Best regards

Invoking R from PHP/Mysql environment
We have a setup in which we use PHP (with Geeklog as a CMS) as a front end to MySQL. We plan to use R for offering user driven and automated statistical analysis of some of the data we obtain. We'll be using the R interface to the MySQL database from omegahat (www.omegahat.org) for getting the data out of the database, but we were wondering if somebody tackled the problem of how to integrate
