Sparc zfs root/boot status ?
Back in October/November 2007 when I asked about Sparc zfs boot and root capabilities, I got a reply indicating late December 2007 for a possible release.
I was wondering what is the status right now, will this feature make it into build 79?

shareiscsi is cool, but what about sharefc or sharescsi?
I''d love to be able to server zvols out as SCSI or FC targets. Are
there any plans to add this to ZFS? That would be amazingly awesome.

status of zfs boot netinstall kit
I wanted to send out status on the effort to make a
version of Solaris install available that supports zfs
as a root file system. I''ve got a version of it ready
for distribution, but I''d like to test it on the Build 62
community release before I make it available.
Without the build 62 community release, I have to
test it on a build 61 image, updated with some build 62
packages.

zfs performance on fuse (Linux) compared to other fs
Hi,
ok I know zfs-fuse is still incomplete and performance has not been considered,
but still, before I''m going to use it for my /home I wanted a rough estimate.
Another benchmark already asserted that zfs by itself, on Solaris, is a very fast beast
(http://cmynhier.blogspot.com/2006/05/zfs-benchmarking.html), faster than ext3 on
Linux and also faster than UFS. Interestingly UFS seems

zfs root, jumpstart and flash archives
I understand that currently, at least under Solaris 10u6, it is not
possible to jumpstart a new system with a zfs root using a flash archive
as a source.
Can anyone comment as to whether this restriction will pass in the near
term, or if this is a while out (6+ months) before this will be possible?
Thanks,

ZIL controls in Solaris 10 U4?
Is it true that Solaris 10 u4 does not have any of the nice ZIL controls
that exist in the various recent Open Solaris flavors? I would like to
move my ZIL to solid state storage, but I fear I can''t do it until I
have another update. Heck, I would be happy to just be able to turn the
ZIL off to see how my NFS on ZFS performance is effected before spending
the $''s. Anyone

6 disk raidz2 or 3 stripe 2 way mirror
I''m playing around with ZFS and want to figure out the best use of my 6x
300GB SATA drives. The purpose of the drives is to store all of my data at
home (video, photos, music, etc). I''m debating between:
6x 300GB disks in a single raidz2 pool
--or--
2x (3x 300GB disks in a pool) mirrored
I''ve read up a lot on ZFS, but I can''t really figure out which is

zfs root eta?
Hi, I was just wondering if ZFS root is likely to be an install
option any time soon, either in SXCR or the June Solaris update?
The mechanism at Tabriz''s blog seem to work well, but it''d be nice
to get it out of the box.

RJS - not working in IE
I searched thru all the postings about RJS, and I didn''t find one person
who complained of problems specific to IE, but that''s what I''ve got.
My environment is:
Rails 1.0 + RJS Plugin
Updated Javascripts to Scriptaculous 1.5.3 (for evalScripts support)
Monkeypatched in_place_editor to support evalScripts
I have just started using RJS, and I have two .rjs templates.

zpool upgrade wrecked GRUB
Machine is running x86 snv_94 after recent upgrade from opensolaris 2008.05. ZFS and zpool reported no troubles except suggesting upgrade for from ver.10 to ver.11. seemed like a good idea at the time. system up for several days after that point then took down for some unrelated maintenance.
now will not boot the opensol, drops to grub prompt, no menus.
zfs was mirrored on two disks c6d0s0 and

Archiving and Restoring Snapshots
I just received a special offer from Sun (marketing...) promising that
I will learn "How to use ZFS snapshots for backup and restore
purposes." The relevant doc is at...
https://www.sun.com/offers/docs/zfs_snapshots.pdf
It says:

Another use of snapshots is to create archives for long-term storage elsewhere.

Oracle unit test problem in Rails 1.1.2/Ruby-OCI 0.1.14
I''ve upgraded to Rails 1.1.2, and I''m trying to push this change through
to our build server (Linux/Oracle) and we are getting some errors in the
unit tests using Oracle. Looking at the data in the tests reveals a
precision problem. Looking at the tables tells the whole story.
My development database contains this table:

Include extra partial in layouts
Hi all,
Does anybody know how to include a partial (next to @content_for_layout) in a
layout file?
I''m looking for a something like @partial_for_include => ''filename'' in my
layout files. So a linked .rhtml file gets picked up from within a layout
file. All my layout files (4 at the moment) have a <div class="navright">
tag, so one change in the

Ruby/OCI8 not working on Rails 1.1
http://rubyforge.org/tracker/?func=detail&atid=1051&aid=3960&group_id=256
I posted this bug yesterday. Seems to be confirmed, since someone else
has the same problem on a different platform (Fedora 4 and Max OS X).
So, if you are using Oracle, don''t be in a rush to upgrade to Rails 1.1
unless you have the time to figure this problem out for yourself.

Database passwords with numbers
I have database password in my database.yml as "passw0rd" however when I
go to http://localhost:3000/rails/info/properties I get this error:
private method `gsub'' called for 1:Fixnum
But if I just use "password" for my password everything is ok.
Any ideas?

The exclude option of Rsync not work right.
Hello,
Can someone explain why my exclude option is not excluding filles as
instructed in my script below.
I have tried multiple methods and still have been unsuccessful in
excluding the one file "test.sql".
The methods I have tried are:
1. Removing EXTRAFLAG variable -a
2. Removing using -a
3. Option --include infront of --exclude and behind of --exclude.
4. rsync /software/testdir/

in_place_editor change request...
Hi,
How do I make a request to the Rails team to include a line something
like:
js_options[''savingText''] = %(''#{options[:saving_text]}'') if options
[:saving_text]
in the in_place_editor method?
script.aculo.us supports the ''savingText'' option to control the text
displayed while saving after an in-line edit. Having the ability to

Modules will no longer be automatically included in RSpec version 1.1.4
Can anyone (David?) shed some light on what exactly this warning is
complaining about? I started seeing it when I upgraded to Rails 2.1
RC1 and the latest RSpec from git.
I''m getting it in some helper specs that I''m writing. And yes, I am
including a module there, to reuse some utility methods I originally
wrote for my controller tests (I''m switching to specs

Problems with STI in has_many/belongs_to in Rails 1.1
I have a problem that surfaced in my attempt to upgrade my application
to Rails 1.1.
We have a STI model on the "belongs_to" side of a has_many/belongs_to
relationship. All my unit tests for this model pass, and the
relationships all seem to work fine.
But in my functional tests, I''m getting errors. I''ve traced it back
into the call to the has_many
