Getting /etc/mongrel_cluster and startup script to work?
Hi,
I''m trying to setup my mongrel clusters to start on boot. I have
followed the instructions under the "On Boot Initialization Setup"
section at http://mongrel.rubyforge.org/docs/mongrel_cluster.html.
When I try to start it up, I get the following error:
me at mybox.com: sudo /etc/init.d/mongrel_cluster start

Problem with: service mongrel_cluster start
Hi all,
I am having trouble transitioning from fastcgi to Mongrel. I have it
all working apart from one small part, I can''t get the service to
start on boot.
I have followed the instructions and if I call the script directly:
i.e. "/etc/init.d/mongrel_cluster start" it works fine, but if I call
it using "service mongrel_cluster start" it fails with the

How to hack a mongrel cluster to restart in an alternating manner?
Hello,
I''ve been trying (unsuccessfully) to hack my mongrel_cluster to re-ststart
in an alternating manner.
Specifically, this soluiton:
http://blog.carlmercier.com/2007/09/07/a-better-approach-to-restarting-a-mongrel-cluster/#content
Which means I an call to mongrel_rails cluster::restart to do this:
mongrel_rails start 8001
mongrel_rails stop 8001
mongrel_rails start 8002

Mongrel Cluster init.d problems
I have installed mongrel and mongrel_cluster fine and have them
running great with my app. I tried using the init.d script provided
with mongrel_cluster 2.1 to start it up on boot but it doesn''t.
mongrel_cluster_ctl works fine for me by hand and so does
/etc/init.d./mongrel_cluster start. I am on Debian so I installed the
service links with sudo update-rc.d mongrel_cluster defaults. And

mongrel_cluster not starting on reboot
Hi,
I''m in the process of moving my blog over from lighttpd -> apache 2.2
+ mongrel. Everything works fine as long as I don''t reboot :)
On reboot apache comes up but mongrel_cluster doesn''t start up the pooches...
I have added the mongrel_cluster call to my startup scripts like so:

mongrel_cluster 0.2.2 prerelease
Hey y''all:
I''ve added some new stuff to mongrel_cluster. Give it try and let me
know if it works for you.
* Added ''--clean'' to cluster::start to force removal of the pidfile
before trying to start the cluster member. This is useful for recovering
from unexpected process death.
* Added ''--only PORT'' to cluster::* to support running a

Mongrel_Cluster unable to access OCI8 library
Hi,
I''m able to run a ROR application in a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.4
environment, as long as I start my mongrel_cluster via the command line:
[chris at localhost ~]$ mongrel_cluster_ctl start
I take a look at the two mongrel_rails processes that were just created:
[chris at localhost log]$ ps -ef | grep mongrel

including starting from the /etc/init.d/mongrel_cluster script

Hello all...
I know its been a while since the last one, but a new prerelease is
available with a gratuitous increase in version numbers!
gem install mongrel_cluster --source http://mongrel.rubyforge.org/releases/
This one has some new features in it that need to be tested on all unix
platforms. Please run --clean and cluster::status on every *nix you can
find. I run linux so the rest are up

mongrel cluster issues, plain old mongrel OK
I just created a test rails app, and am having very wierd issues with
mongrel cluster. Here''s what I''m doing:
rails test
sudo chown -R mongrel:mongrel test
cd test
sudo mongrel_rails \
cluster::configure -e production \
-p 8000 -N 3 -a 127.0.0.1 --user mongrel \
--group mongrel
It correctly writes the mongrel_cluster.yml file to the config
directory. Now,

Not all mongrel starting (Errno:EEXIST)
I''m playing with the mongrel clustering, and am having a problem getting 2
mongrels to start up reliably.
This should be a pretty simple cluster, with just 2 instances running. My
mongrel config (mongrel_cluster.yml) looks like:
cwd: /deployment/installed/myapp/current
log_file: log/mongrel.log
port: "8000"
environment: production

capistrano+mongrel struggles
Hello,
I am trying to deploy on to OS X Server with capistrano+mongrel+apache2,
etc.
I''m trying to do a "cap cold_deploy" as recommended here:
http://blog.codahale.com/2006/06/19/time-for-a-grown-up-server-rails-mongrel-apache-capistrano-and-you/
I had a devil of a time getting cap to find the mongrel_rails command
(which is in /opt/local/bin) on the server. I set the

Mongrel_rails restart and sudo
Sorry for the newbie question but I''m stumped:
I have an app that requires sudo to run mongrel_rails. For my capistrano
recipe is do it like this:
sudo "mongrel_rails start -e production -p #{application_port} -d -c
#{current_path}"
Which works famously.
Now I have tried several things for my restart task. Here they are:
sudo "cd #{current_path} && sudo

Monit / mongel_cluster 0.2.2 / mongrel 1.0.1
Hi,
I''ve a few problems with my rails app at the minute, causing mongrels
in a cluster to die, while I debug I''ve setup monit to keep the site
running.
Problem is, whenever monit starts one of my mongrels via mongrel_rails
cluster::start --only 8000 --clean -C /url/to/yml/file I get the
following in my log/mongrel.log:
** Mongrel available at 127.0.0.1:8000

Hi everyone,
I am going crazy over here! :)
I just want to be able to use --clean with my mongrel_rails
cluster::start command.
I''ve upgraded to mongrel_cluster 1.0.1.1 and mongrel_rails 1.0.1.
my config file is in /etc/mongrel_rails/config.yml
and contains:

mongrel_cluster and Monit
On one of my development servers mongrel dies when idle for any length
of time. Since I''ve not been able to solve that problem I thought I''d
route around it by using monit to kick things when necessary.
My monitrc contains the following...
