How to select a motherboard
Not being familiar with chip sets and other factors that "hardware
experts" understand, I am perplexed with the multitude of available
motherboards. Is there a Web site that can be of help or a "strategy"?
My goal is to replace my motherboard with one that is Centos compatible
and uses a Pentium 4 in the 2 MHz range. As example, when I go to

Will Centos work with the Intel D865GLC
I need to replace my Abit BE7 board (cannot run the newer Linux) and
keep my near new IDE HD's (250 GB). A D865GLC is new available that
uses the Intel 865G chip set, but I have no experience in matching
Mobo's with Linux.

Asterisk hanging?
Hi,
I compiled and am running the latest CVS but strange things are now happening..
it looks like asterisk is randomly declaring my calls to be fax calls,
complaining and then sending the calls into a black hole... if I hangup the
calls below (soft hangup) asterisk locks up and I have to kill the process.

Any recomendations for Motherboards?
What socket AM2 motherboards out there work well with xen (i.e. support >
4G ram, sata and lan chipsets work).
I''m looking to probably run one of the lowpower Athlon 64 X2 4200''s in it.
I''d also like to see atleast 4 ram slots.
Anyone have any recomendations?
Thanks,
Doug

Finally cracked the mystery of motherboards with Vt-d support
After contacting Asus, MSI and Gigabyte, this is what I got back.
Only motherboards with the QXX chipsets and certified with the Intel
VPro support the Vt-d virtualization technology.
I''m not sure about MSI though, because this is what I got from their
support: "Almost board could support. Please refer to our website,
http://www.msi.com/product/mb/."
The problem is that

Motherboards
Does anyone have any experience with Super-Micro brand motherboards //
dual Xeon cpu's? Had to swap out my Tyan piece of junk and going back
with the S-M board. I believe it has similar north/southbridge chips on
it -- at least they are the intel MCH ICH5R and PXH plus the 82546GB.
One area that the Tyan board was seriously lacking in was in the
hardware monitoring department. The S-M

Gigabyte motherboards and Syslinux
I read the mailing list archive about Gigabyte motherboards not working
with USB booting ("[syslinux] Gigabyte recent bios & syslinux extlinux
trow USB-IDE bridges or pendrives", 16 Aug 2006).
I have a Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-DS4H motherboard that I tried to boot in
USB-HDD mode with a PNY boot pen. I installed System Rescue CD on it.
It would appear that Gigabyte still doesn't

Motherboards and IRQs
Someone mentioned earlier (I can't find the message now) that they had a
motherboard that allowed you to change IRQ assignments in BIOS. Does
anyone happen to know how to identify motherboards that can do this? I'm
going to put together a new machine now and I'm having trouble picking a
motherboard for it (ordering from Dell or other online vendor is not an
option, since I need

Motherboards for HPC applications
Hello,
Can somebody recommend CentOS-OK, dual socket motherboards for compute
elements? A quick look up at Intel pages suggests they are thinking of
them as "server boards", but then they recommend them as "for SMB",
I'm somewhat puzzled about it.
It would be nice to know what MBs you are using, pros and cons.
Thank you in advance

5v capable motherboards
Anyone have a suggestion on where I can get a decent new MB with 5v
capable PCI slots. It seems like every decent server MB on the market
has 3.3V slots only.
Is diving into the junkbin my only choice if I can't afford to replace
the 5v quad-T1 wildcard?
Thanks

I think it would be good to get Kostya's explicit sign-off on this before
committing it, as he has been directing and overseeing the sanitizer work
as a whole over the past year.

Does a list of compatible motherboards
Is there a list of compatible motherboards? My Abit BE7 is not
compatible with either Centos 4.1 or Fedora 3; just RH 9.
Any suggestions are welcomed....

Problems booting on Intel i9x5 motherboards.
Hello,
I'm using Isolinux 3.11 to make a boot image with a variety of 2.6 kernels.
I have two Intel-branded motherboards with i915 and i945 chipsets that
have trouble booting with menu.c32.
If I load the image from the isolinux commandline with a set of append
parameters, it works. The same settings loaded from the menu.c32 causes
the kernel to load and promptly hang.
All I can tell is

core 2 duo motherboards and centos 4
from my googling around, it doesn't look there is a single motherboard

true? the main thing we want is:

4g of 800mhz (or better) ram
sata
gig ether with pxe boot
we can live without pata or usb for a while.

Centos-compatible motherboards
Hi all!
I'm toying with the idea of spending some Christmas money on a new MB and
CPU to upgrade my desktop.
Although I've always been partial to AMD chips, I'm tempted this time to
find something Intel-ish, I5, quad core, or so.
In looking at mommyboards at New Egg and Amazon, I find so many I am
unable to make reasonable determinations regarding suitability, so am

CentOS 4 lm_sensors help for intel D945 motherboards
Has anyone succeeded in getting lm_sensors to produce useful output for intel
D945-based motherboards? According to the lm_sensors site, I need a newer
kernel (2.6.16) to read the ICH7 data. I noticed the i2c patches in the
kernel source rpm, but no joy. I'd be okay with building my own modules, but
haven't found anyone to provide the kernel module source apart from the kernel
