zfs send speed
Howdy folks. I''ve a customer looking to use ZFS in a DR situation. They have a large data store where they will be taking snapshots every N minutes or so, sending the difference of the snapshot and previous snapshot with zfs send -i to a remote host, and in case of DR firing up the secondary. However, I''ve seen a few references to the speed of zfs send being, well, a bit

3510 JBOD ZFS vs 3510 HW RAID
Hi there Is it fair to compare the 2 solutions using Solaris 10 U2 and a commercial database (SAP SD scenario). The cache on the HW raid helps, and the CPU load is less... but the solution costs more and you _might_ not need the performance of the HW RAID. Has anybody with access to these units done a benchmark comparing the performance (and with the pricelist in hand) came to a conclusion.

Configuring a 3510 for ZFS
Hi folks, Myself and a colleague are currently involved in a prototyping exercise to evaluate ZFS against our current filesystem. We are looking at the best way to arrange the disks in a 3510 storage array. We have been testing with the 12 disks on the 3510 exported as "nraid" logical devices. We then configured a single ZFS pool on top of this, using two raid-z arrays. We are getting

zfs and EMC
Hi there, have a strange behavior if i?ll create a zfs pool at an EMC PowerPath pseudo device. I can create a pool on emcpower0a but not on emcpower2a zpool core dumps with invalid argument .... ???? Thats my second maschine with powerpath and zfs the first one works fine, even zfs/powerpath and failover ... Is there anybody who has the same failure and a solution ? :) Greets Dominik

ZFS and powerpath
How much fun can you have with a simple thing like powerpath? Here''s the story: I have a (remote) system with access to a couple of EMC LUNs. Originally, I set it up with mpxio and created a simple zpool containing the two LUNs. It''s now been reconfigured to use powerpath instead of mpxio. My problem is that I can''t import the pool. I get: pool: ###### id:

ZFS hotplug
Hello, I ran across this entry on the following page: ZFS hotplug - PSARC/2007/197 http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/on/flag-days/66-70/ Since Build 68 hasn''t closed yet, I assume this would currently be in a nightly build? If so, has anyone had a chance to play with this yet and see how well it performs? Unfortunately, I don''t have a spare system at the moment to try

ZFS/iSCSI target integration
Rick McNeal and I have been working on building support for sharing ZVOLs as iSCSI targets directly into ZFS. Below is the proposal I''ll be submitting to PSARC. Comments and suggestions are welcome. Adam ---8<--- iSCSI/ZFS Integration A. Overview The goal of this project is to couple ZFS with the iSCSI target in Solaris specifically to make it as easy to create and export ZVOLs

Newbie question: ZFS on Xserve RAID with Solaris 10
--Apologies if you get two copies of this message - it was submitted for moderation and hasn''t appeared on the list in two days, so I''m resubmitting. Hi all, Just a quick question. Is it possible to utilise an Apple Xserve RAID as an array for use with ZFS with RAID-Z in Solaris? I''ve seen various mentions of ''zfs'' and ''xserve

ZFS Support for remote mirroring
Does ZFS support any type of remote mirroring? It seems at present my only two options to achieve this would be Sun Cluster or Availability Suite. I thought that this functionality was in the works, but I haven''t heard anything lately. Thanks! ZFS space map causing slow performance
Hello, I have several ~12TB storage servers using Solaris with ZFS. Two of them have recently developed performance issues where the majority of time in an spa_sync() will be spent in the space_map_*() functions. During this time, "zpool iostat" will show 0 writes to disk, while it does hundreds or thousands of small (~3KB) reads each second, presumably reading space map data from

status of zfs boot netinstall kit
I wanted to send out status on the effort to make a version of Solaris install available that supports zfs as a root file system. I''ve got a version of it ready for distribution, but I''d like to test it on the Build 62 community release before I make it available. Without the build 62 community release, I have to test it on a build 61 image, updated with some build 62 packages.

Why does disable loading of zfs module in boot causes
Hello, I tried to disable loading of the zfs module by adding "exclude zfs" in /etc/system. I rebooted and got into "maintainance mode" with many services disbaled (as svcs -xv shows). I don''t have any zfs partitons on this machine. So my question is: for what is the zfs module in booting of solaris ? Why can''t it be disabled? Regards, David This message

yay for zfs
This zfs looks great! I really hope this gets put into solaris soon since I don''t think I could live with Solaris express on a production machine. The easy of adding disk and moving directories looks like a life saver, especially for me who deals with trying to store digital media which piles up a couple of gig a day! FW: ZFS disk size report
Hi, It would be great help to understand the how the actually allocated disk space keeps getting reduced as shown below (I understand different filesystem/volume management implementation would have different logic to set aside some space reserved for meta-data etc). If the following can be explained it would really help. I allocated 80*25G luns to a solaris server (clariion luns). (80*25

Difference between ZFS and UFS with one LUN from a SAN
All, I understand that ZFS gives you more error correction when using two LUNS from a SAN. But, does it provide you with less features than UFS does on one LUN from a SAN (i.e is it less stable). Thanks, Shawn This message posted from opensolaris.org

How to unstick ZFS resilver?
I have a large (88-drive) zpool in which a drive was recently replaced. (The pool has a bunch of duff Toshiba MK2001TRKB drives -- never ever pay money for these! -- and I'm trying to replace them one by one before they fail completely.) The resilver on the first drive replacement has been taking much much too long, and currently it's stuck in this state: pool: export state: DEGRADED
