Promise SX4060 on 7.1-BETA2
I am attempting to install 7.1-BETA2 (from CD) onto a PC with a Promise
SX4060 RAID controller and two Seagate 120GB ATA disk drives.
The boot from CD keeps repeating the following (error) messages: (I'm

gmirror+gjournal: unable to boot after crash
Hi,
after one month with gmirror and gjournal running on a 7.0-RELEASE #p2 amd64 (built from latest CVS source), the box hung a couple of times when on high disk load. Finally, while building some port it won't boot for no reason obvious to me.
This is what I get with kernel.geom.mirror.debug=2:

AHCI and correct drive geometry?
Hey folks,
So what's the word on AHCI and bios drive geometry? I'm having a real
pain of a time trying to get some 750gb sata drives running on my
FreeBSD7 box in AHCI mode. It doesn't seem to matter what disk geometry
I suggest to sysinstall, something complains of an invalid disk upon
booting it.
Actually, in AHCI mode the bios screen doesn't report any information on

Hi list,
My case :

Smbpasswd fail to change local UNIX user password (ZTEST) when samba role is DC.
I want to change password of local UNIX user "ZTEST" but

[SAGE] FreeBSD 4.4-REL to FreeBSD 4.8-STABLE upgrade problem.
Before reading below: I am considering a new install rather than an upgrade
of our servers. However, now I just want to beat this problem. :)

ad4: WARNING - SETFEATURES SET TRANSFER MODE taskqueue timeout - on FreeBSD 6-STABLE
Hi
After my previous email about the SETFEATURES SET TRANSFER MODE timeout
on (msgid 441AA807.5090100@wfeet.za.net , 17 March 14:18 GMT + 2 on
freebsd-stable), I installed FreeBSD 6.1 BETA 4 and upgraded to a
6-STABLE kernel, running the box in 'safe' mode to do so. I now,
however, get a slightly different error message:

Failure of gvinum after panic
Hi all,
I have some problems with my gvinum setup after the system panic'ed.
Afterwards the system fails finding the plexes to the subdisks (or at
least that is what I can understand after having searched the gvinum
source code for the error string in the DMESG log..)
The machine is an IBM Netfinity 5000 and the internal HW self tests
does not find any errors in the hw.
Luckily my root is

New 'amr' driver and linux MegaMGR
Hi,
according to http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/cvsweb.cgi/src/sys/dev/amr/amr.c?only_with_tag=RELENG_6
it seems MegaMGR for linux now can work. Any experience?

troule switching winbind to use a new AD 2008
I have been using 2003 AD servers for winbind for many years, and now
2008 is phasing in, but I can't authenticate using the new servers, and
I'm not sure what to do. All advice very welcome.
This is a problem for me on both Gentoo (samba 3.0.33) and Debian Lenny
(samba 3.0.24).
For debugging, I ran winbind interactively and piped output to a file
(winbindd -d 3 -i).
I have also

multiple disk failure
Hi,
I am using FreeBSD 8.2 and went to add 4 new disks today to expand my
offsite storage. All was working fine for about 20min and then the new
drive cage started to fail. Silly me for assuming new hardware would be
fine :(
The new drive cage started to fail, it hung the server and the box
rebooted. After it rebooted, the entire pool is gone and in the state
below. I had only written a few

Improper use of atomic_add_64().
Hi.
I noticed that when non-64bit variable is given as a second argument to
atomic_add_64() function, the result is invalid.
I found few places where such situation occurs. I wonder how this got
unnoticed with ztest, which fails on me within a few seconds (after I
started to use Solaris atomic operations) on assertions. Maybe this
only doesn''t work when compiled with gcc? Not sure, but

Serial ATA Errors
Hello Everyone,
I started seeing some ata errors on a server running FreeBSD 5.4-STABLE
that I've never seen before. This probably has something to do with it but
we just upgraded the RAM on the server from 1 GB to 2 GB (DDR 400),
perhaps a cable got slightly loose. I'm pretty certain the hard drives are
good since the server ran fine prior to the memory upgrade.
What do the errors below

My 500-gig ZFS is gone: insufficient replicas, corrupted data
Hi,
I''m running FreeBSD 7.1-PRERELEASE with a 500-gig ZFS drive. Recently I''ve encountered a FreeBSD problem (PR kern/128083) and decided about updating the motherboard BIOS. It looked like the update went right but after that I was shocked to see my ZFS destroyed! Rolling the BIOS back did not help.
Now it looks like that:
