virt-install error: "virDomainLookupByName() failed got unknown HTTP error code 400"
Hi there,
I've been happily installing VMs in CentOS 5.2's Xen implementation using virt-manager. However, my latest attempt to use the install wizard in virt-manager failed when I got to the networking screen. The 'forward' button was unresponsive, and I was unable to proceed. I checked the virt-manager logs, and saw this appearing immediately after I tried to proceed:

Experience with Promise Tech. arrays/jbod''s?
Greetings,
In looking for inexpensive JBOD and/or RAID solutions to use with ZFS, I''ve
run across the recent "VTrak" SAS/SATA systems from Promise Technologies,
specifically their E-class and J-class series:

Ruby IO on brand new xserve with Leopard Server
Hi
I''m using princexml pdf generation in one of our apps and bump into
this very weird problem. On our ubuntu box and local machines
(MacBook Pro) pdfs are generated flawlessly. On the production xserve
(running the rails app in production mode on a mongrel cluster), a
2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, strange things start happening. The

Centos 6.4 on Xserve, IPMI error
Hello!
I'm trying to install Centos 6.4 64 bit on this Xserve:
http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/xserve/specs/xserve-intel-xeon-2.8-eight-core-specs.html
I got a bootloader from:
http://blog.christophersmart.com/2009/07/23/linux-on-an-apple-xserve-efi-only-machine/
as none of the official Centos releases (full, minimal, network 64 bit) boot on this machine.
They all crash when loading

Asterisk/Zaptel on Mac G5 or Xserve
I am considering a G5/XServe for a conferencing system. I need to put a TDM
card in the machine for timing. Is anyone out there using Asterisk on Mac
with zaptel drivers? I am looking at using Linux for the OS. If so what is
your experience?
Have a great day!

Xserve, USB, NUT
Hi - I have NUT running very nicely on a serial port on one of my OpenBSD
servers, and using hidups on a RHEL4 box. Now I'd like to run it on two
Macs, a PowerMac and an XServe G4. What is the USB port I need to
configure, and do I need the newhidups driver?
Thanks in advance for the help!

ZFS vs. Apple XRaid
Hello all,
After setting up a Solaris 10 machine with ZFS as the new NFS server,
I''m stumped by some serious performance problems. Here are the
(admittedly long) details (also noted at
http://www.netmeister.org/blog/):
The machine in question is a dual-amd64 box with 2GB RAM and two
broadcom gigabit NICs. The OS is Solaris 10 6/06 and the filesystem
consists of a single zpool stripe

[LLVMdev] Moving on from Hello World
Hello everybody,
I've been following the guide at (
http://llvm.org/docs/WritingAnLLVMPass.html ) for Writing a llvm pass that
outputs Hello World. After a little bit of help from Stackoverflow, this is
now working fine and running.
My problem is that I'm struggling to get much further on from the hello
world example - I've not been able to find the write incantation to access

Filename problem (filenames containing slashes aka.\and /)
We _cannot_ go about renaming files, for a number of reasons.. the primary being some of the files are technically not ours to alter without a clients permission (names and all) and you don't understand just how many files there are. There are quite probably thousands of files, spread across _hundreds_ of cds and dvds which comes to a total of roughly 400GB.
As to a Mac server, i'm not

smbpasswd produces INCORRECT sambaNTPasswd hash on ppc (yellowdog 4.0 on xserve G5)
I'm having trouble setting up samba as a PDC on an apple xserve, using
yellowdog linux 4.0. After a lot of thrashing, I believe the problem
may be smbpasswd generating the wrong NT hash. Running smbpasswd on a
redhat box (intel architecture) produces the follow LDAP entry:
dn: uid=testuser2,ou=Users,dc=allstate,dc=network
objectClass: top
objectClass: inetOrgPerson
objectClass: posixAccount

xServes are dead ;-( / SAN Question
Hi !
As some of you might know, Apple has discontinued it's xServes server as of
january 31st 2011.
We have a server rack with 12 xserves ranging from dual G5's to dual
quand-core xeon lastest generation, 3 xserve-raid and one activeraid 16 TB
disk enclosure. We also use xSan to access a shared file system among the
servers. Services are run from this shared filesystem, spreaded

security = domain and Mac OS X
I've set up Samba on Mac OS X to do pass through authentication to
the nt domain in AD several times now. No big deal, it usually just
works.
Now, however, it doesn't appear to be working. Note the relevant part
of the transaction below (loglevel 4).
Steps to replicate:
a) Add pre-Win2K account with AD Users and computers
b) sudo smbpasswd -j EXAMPLE -r WINSERVER -U

open failed (Too many open files in system)
I am running Samba 3.0.5 on OS X 10.3.8 Server. It's the stock Samba
supplied by Apple with no modifications. I am running a variety of
shares on the system to around 50 PC clients.
I came into the office this morning with a dead Xserve... could not
login, could not ping or ssh into the system. Users in the office
could not even browse the network. When they tried to browse the

Samba 3 vs 4, User Maintenance
Hey all,
We are currently using an Apple XServe G5 as a PDC for 150 Windows XP
Pro machines. Everything worked well (sorta) under OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
but when we upgraded to 10.5 (Leopard) it just fell apart. I
reinstalled the OS several times and tried everything I could to get
it to work properly (i.e. log in more than 20 machines at once). We
have even opened a ticket with Apple to

Mongrel Upload Progress progress method returns Content-Length: 0
Running into a strange bug using the mongrel upload progress plugin
handler, sitting in front of a simple mongrel.
The bug appears on an old Xserve (mac OS X 10.3.9 powerpc), but not on
my macbook pro, or even a generic 686 linux box.

Samba 3.0.10 - Invalid Value!!!
I have a Macintosh Xserve running OS 10.4.8 and it's running Samba 3.0.10.
Everytime a Windows XP workstation logs off the Macintosh Xserve server, the

device-mapper multipath
I am attempting to get multipath working with device-mapper (CentOS
4.2 and 4.3). It works on EVERY install of mine from RH (also v4.2,
4.3), but the same multipath.conf imported to all my installs of
CentOS do not work. Note that I have tested a working 4.2
configuration file from RH on CentOS 4.2 and a working 4.3
configuration (it changed slightly) on CentOS 4.3. Neither worked. Our
