Can a zpool cachefile be copied between systems?
Suppose that you have a SAN environment with a lot of LUNs. In the normal course of events this means that ''zpool import'' is very slow, because it has to probe all of the LUNs all of the time. In S10U6, the theoretical ''obvious'' way to get around this for your SAN filesystems seems to be to use a non-default cachefile (likely one cachefile per virtual

cachefile for snail zpool import mystery?
Hi, We are seeing more long delays in zpool import, say, 4~5 or even 25~30 minutes, especially when backup jobs are going on in the FC SAN the LUNs resides (no iSCSI LUNs yet). On the same node for the LUNs of the same array, some pools takes a few seconds, but minutes for some. the pattern seems random to me so far. It''s first noticed soon after being upgraded to Solaris 10 U6

Undo/reverse zpool create
Hi, If I add an entire disk to a new pool by doing "zpool create", is this reversible? I.e. if there was data on that disk (e.g. it was the sole disk in a zpool in another system) can I get this back or is zpool create destructive? Joubert This message posted from opensolaris.org

Proposal: ZFS Hot Spare support
As mentioned last night, we''ve been reviewing a proposal for hot spare support in ZFS. Below you can find a current draft of the proposed interfaces. This has not yet been submitted for ARC review, but comments are welcome. Note that this does not include any enhanced FMA diagnosis to determine when a device is "faulted". This will come in a follow-on project, of which some

How do I get my pool back?
After having to replace an internal raid card in an X2200 (S10U3 in this case), I can see the disks just fine - and can boot, so the data isn''t completely missing. However, my zpool has gone. # zpool status -x pool: storage state: FAULTED status: One or more devices could not be opened. There are insufficient replicas for the pool to continue functioning. action: Attach the

mounting a copy of a zfs pool /file system while orginal is still active
Hello SUN gurus I do not know if this is supported, I have a created a zpool consisting of the SAN resources and created a zfs file system. Using third part software I have taken snapshots of all luns in the zfs pool. My question is in a recovery situation is there a way for me to mount the snapshots and import the pool while the original is still active. Right now all I am able to do is export

Adding a mirror to an existing single disk zpool
Hello All, I''m transitioning data off my old UFS partitions onto ZFS. I don''t have a lot of duplicate space so I created a zpool, rsync''ed the data from UFS to the ZFS mount and then repartitioned the UFS drive to have partitions that match the cylinder count of the ZFS. The idea here is that once the data is over I wipe out UFS and then attach that partition to the

zpool iostat output gets buffered
I''m trying to write a SLAMD (http://www.slamd.com/) resource monitor that can be used to measure the I/O throughput on a ZFS pool, and in particular to be able to get the read and write rates. In order to do this, I''m basically executing "zpool iostat {interval}" and parsing the output to capture the values in the "bandwidth read" and "bandwidth

ZFS disk failure question
So, my Areca controller has been complaining via email of read errors for a couple days on SATA channel 8. The disk finally gave up last night at 17:40. I got to say I really appreciate the Areca controller taking such good care of me. For some reason, I wasn''t able to log into the server last night or in the morning, probably because my home dir was on the zpool with the failed disk

Renaming a pool?
Hi all, I have a pool called tank/home/foo and I want to rename it to tank/home/bar. What''s the best way to do this (the zfs and zpool man pages don''t have a "rename" option)? One way I can think of is to create a clone of tank/home/foo called tank/home/bar, and then destroy the former. Is that the best (or even only) way? TIA, -- Rich Teer, SCSA, SCNA, SCSECA,

ZFS import on pool with same name?
I have an OpenSolaris snv_101 box with ZFS on it. (Sun Ultra 20 M2) zpool name is rpool. The I have a 2nd hard drive in the box that I am trying to recover the ZFS data from (long story but that HD became unbootable after installing IPS on the machine) Both drives have a pool named "rpool", so I can''t import the rpool from the 2nd drive. root at hyperion:~# zpool status

ZFS and IBM sdd (vpath)

zpool versioning
Hi, I was wondering if anyone would know if this is just an accounting-type error with the recorded "version=" stored on disk, or if there are/could-be any deeper issues with an "upgraded" zpool? I created a pool under a Sol10_x86_u3 install (11/06?), and zdb correctly reported the pool as a "version=3" pool. I reinstalled the OS with a u4 (08/07), ran zpool
