Performance Tuning - ZFS, Oracle and T2000
Hi All, We are currently in the process of testing Solaris 10 with ZFS and Oracle and are running it on a T2000. When checking performance statistics on the T2000, we notice that only one thread of the CPU appears to be doing any of the processing. Leaving all other threads seemingly idle. Are there any tuning parameters that need to be set or changed when running Oracle on T2000 using

Dummies in R
Dear all, my problem is following. I know Stata, but currently I have to use R. Could You please help in finding the analogy to R. (1) creating of City-Dummy. I know in Stata: g byte city=0 replace city=1 if city==12&year==2000 and (2) Create a Time-Dummy-Variable g byte T2000=0 replace T2000=1 if year==2000 (3) I need the City DUmmy for the following combination: I have the

ZFS raidz1 replacing failing disk
I''m having a serious problem with a customer running a T2000 with ZFS configured as raidz1 with 4 disks, no spare. The machine is mostly a cyrus imap server and web application server to run the ajax app to email. Yesterday we had a heavy slow down. Tomcat runs smoothly, but the imap access is very slow, also through a direct imap client runnining on LAN PCs. We figured out that the 4th

Asterisk + G.729 on Sun T1000/T2000
I am curious if anyone has tested Asterisk running transcoding G.729 -> G.711 (ULAW) on Sun T1000 or T2000. I'd like to hear about your experience. Is round-robin I/O correct for ZFS?
I''m testing an Iscsi multipath configuration on a T2000 with two disk devices provided by a Netapp filer. Both the T2000 and the Netapp have two ethernet interfaces for Iscsi, going to separate switches on separate private networks. The scsi_vhci devices look like this in `format'': 1. c4t60A98000433469764E4A413571444B63d0 <NETAPP-LUN-0.2-50.00GB>

USDT probes from PostgreSQL
while trying to use the USDT made available to us in Postgresql database I have problems enabling them. On my database server I ran 1024+ PG processes (1024 clients). The server is a 8 core T2000 @1000MHz. 32GB. 7 storage arrays. Solaris 10 Update 4. Home compiled PG 8.3 beta 1 (optimized binary for T1 chip) with DTrace probes enabled. When running without enabling the probes I have approx 25%

Q: T2000: raidctl vs. zpool status
Hi all, IHACWHAC (I have a colleague who has a customer - hello, if you''re listening :-) who''s trying to build and test a scenario where he can salvage the data off the (internal ?) disks of a T2000 in case the sysboard and with it the on-board raid controller dies. If I understood correctly, he replaces the motherboard, does some magic to get the raid config back, but even

What is the 32 GB 2.5-Inch SATA Solid State Drive?
Does anyone know about this device? SESX3Y11Z 32 GB 2.5-Inch SATA Solid State Drive with Marlin Bracket for Sun SPARC Enterprise T5120, T5220, T5140 and T5240 Servers, RoHS-6 Compliant This is from Sun''s catalog for the T5120 server. Would this work well as a separate ZIL device for ZFS? Is there any way I could use this in a T2000 server? The brackets appear to be

set zfs:zfs_vdev_max_pending
We have a zpool made of 4 512g iscsi luns located on a network appliance. We are seeing poor read performance from the zfs pool. The release of solaris we are using is: Solaris 10 10/09 s10s_u8wos_08a SPARC The server itself is a T2000 I was wondering how we can tell if the zfs_vdev_max_pending setting is impeding read performance of the zfs pool? (The pool consists of lots of small files).

How to cut data elements included in a text line
Hello, assume I have an "unstructured" text line from a connection. Unfortunately, it is in string format: R> x [1] "\talpha0\t-0.638\t0.4043\t0.4043\t-2.215\t-0.5765\t-0.137\t501\t2000" How can I extract the data included in this string object "x" in order to get the elements for the parameter vector called "alpha0", i.e. -0.638 0.4043 0.0467

memory issue
Hello, I received the following question from a company I am working with: We are having issues with our early experiments with ZFS with volumes mounted from a 6130. Here is what we have and what we are seeing: T2000 (geronimo) on the fibre with a 6130. 6130 configured with UFS volumes mapped and mounted on several other hosts. it''s the only host using ZFS volume (only

Dtrace locks up on sol
Hi all... I''ve just got my hands on a Solaris 10 box for the first time. I''ve heard wonderous things about dtrace, so the first command I type is dtrace -l which disappointingly does nothing at all. It just hangs, and neither Ctrl-D, Ctrl-C or kill -9 from another shell will do anything to kill it. The box is: SunOS t2000 5.10 Generic_118822-25 sun4v sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-T200

ZFS and Oracle asynchronous I/O
We have an Oracle 10.2.0.3 installation on a Sun T2000 logical domain. The virtual disk has a ZFS file system. When we try to create a tablespace we get these errors: WARNING: aiowait timed out 1 times WARNING: aiowait timed out 2 times WARNING: aiowait timed out 3 times ... Does disk_asynch_io = false need to be set with ZFS? This page:

Physical Domain Structure and Logical Domain
Hi: S10 has physical domain control data structure and physical domain control data structure are defined for platform dependent sun4u architecture. From T2000, logical domain will be introduced with new firmware on virtualization. DCS May I ask a few questions below: (1) it seems common psinfo_t and cpuinfo_t does address platform specific information. What is the proper way to access

rc18->rc19: read/unread/reply flags broken
Timo, This might be a bit vague, but I have noticed that rc19 seems to have broken the read/unread/reply flags in imap. My officemate has had problems with messages that are read and marked as read then mysteriously get remarked as unread the next time email is checked. I've had problems where I reply to a message and it does not get marked as "answered". We didn't see this

query re memory profiling
Hi I have a Dtrace script ( attached ) which examines memory usage, using fbt:genunix:anon_resvmem:entry & return On my T2000 it totals the 65k pages being reserved by my application, printing out the total in bytes. Seems to work well, tested with a small app that malloced < 65 K, malloced 200M and mmapeed a 16M file and it appeared to get things correct. Could I just get a second pair

Client behind firewall
Hey, I have a Compaq T2000 UPS that I use to power my firewall, dmz, and two internal machines and I've just started implementing UPS monitoring to shut the systems down in the event of an outage instead of relying on me, but I've run into a snag. Reading the documentation, it seems the client has to contact the server. The problem is I really don't want to open a port form the
