[storage-discuss] ZFS iscsi snapshot - VSS compatible?
I don''t know if VSS has this capability, but essentially if it can temporarily quiesce a device like a data base does for "warm standby" then a snapshot should work. This would be a very simple Windows side script/batch: 1) Q-Disk 2) Remote trigger snapshot 3) Un Q-Disk I have no idea where to even begin researching VSS unfortunately... ZFS attributes for CIFS.
Hi all, I''m setting up a new fileserver, and while I''m not planning on enabling CIFS right away, I know I will in the future. I know there are several ZFS properties or attributes that affect how CIFS behaves. I seem to recall that at least one of those needs to be set early (like when the filesystem [or pool?] is created? Which properties might those be? Where can I find

ZFS partially hangs when removing an rpool mirrored disk while having some IO on another pool on another partition of the same disk
Hello, Sorry for the (very) long subject but I''ve pinpointed the problem to this exact situation. I know about the other threads related to hangs, but in my case there was no < zfs destroy > involved, nor any compression or deduplication. To make a long story short, when - a disk contains 2 partitions (p1=32GB, p2=1800 GB) and - p1 is used as part of a zfs mirror of rpool

Gluster with CIFS, quotas and LDAP
Hello, Does anyone has experience putting together Gluster with CIFS, quotas and LDAP support? I'd like to benefit from Gluster filesystem but with the user management capabilities of the FreeNAS, Openfiler and such. I'm looking to put together a stack to group multiple servers as one big file server with LDAP/AD for user access, quota management and SMB/CIFS. We have a good number

ZFS CIFS, smb.conf (smb/server) and LDAP
All; I am deeply sorry if this topic has been rehashed, checksummed, de-duplicated and archived before. But I just need a small clarification. /etc/sfw/smb.conf is necessary only for smb/server to function properly but is smb/server SMF service necessary for ZFS sharesmb to work I am trying to setup an open solaris file server acting as a Windows PDC with SAMBA/LDAP integration on the open

Problem setting quotas on a zfs pool
Solaris 10 5/08 Customer migrated to a new emc array with a snap shot and did a send and receive. He is now trying to set quotas on the zfs file system and getting the following error. [root at osprey /] # zfs set quota=800g target/u05 cannot set property for ''target/u05'': size is less than current used or reserved space [root at osprey /] # zfs list -o

Upgrade from UFS Sol 10u5 to ZFS Sol 10u6/OS 2008.11[SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]
Hi ZFS gods, I have a x4500 I wish to upgrade from a SVM UFS Sol 10u5 to a ZFS rpool 10u6 or Opensolaris. Since I know (via backing up my sharetab) what shares I need to have (all nfs share - no cifs on this 4500 - YAY) and have organised downtime for this server, would it be easier for me to go to Solaris 10u6 (or opensolaris) by just installing from scratch and re-importing the ZPOOL

Re: zfs-discuss Digest, Vol 89, Issue 12
You could always use 40-gigabit between the two storage systems which would speed things dramatically, or back to back 56-gigabit IB. ---------------------------------------- From: zfs-discuss-request@opensolaris.org Sent: Monday, March 18, 2013 11:01 PM To: zfs-discuss@opensolaris.org Subject: zfs-discuss Digest, Vol 89, Issue 12 Send zfs-discuss mailing list submissions to

ZFS and disk usage management?
After struggling for some time to try and wedge a ZFS file server into our environment, I have come to the conclusion that I''m simply going to have to live without quotas. They have been immensely useful in the past 5 years or so in allowing us to keep track of which groups are hogging disk space, and even finding a bug in one manufacturing/engineering tool which occasionally crashed in a

Migrating ZFS/data pool to new pool on the same system
Can anyone confirm my action plan is the proper way to do this? The reason I''m doing this is I want to create 2xraidz2 pools instead of expanding my current 2xraidz1 pool. So I''ll create a 1xraidz2 vdev, migrate my current 2xraidz1 pool over, destroy that pool and then add it as a 1xraidz2 vdev to the new pool. I''m running b130, sharing both with CIFS and ISCSI (not

Samba, quotas and disk capacity?
Hi Bernd, There have been a lot of improvements in Samba since 2.0.5; I know that the 2.0.7 version is supposed to support unix HFS and VxFS quotas. Also the "with-quotas" option must be turned on at compile time, so perhaps your 2.0.5 version was not compiled "with-quotas"... I tested quotas and the HP 2.0.7 version here and it works the way that Dirk mentions, you will get

panic after zfs mount
Dear all We ran into a nasty problem the other day. One of our mirrored zpool hosts several ZFS filesystems. After a reboot (all FS mounted at that time an in use) the machine paniced (console output further down). After detaching one of the mirrors the pool fortunately imported automatically in a faulted state without mounting the filesystems. Offling the unplugged device and clearing the fault

support for new zfs user/group quotas
Are there plans for supporting the user and group quotas that Solaris ZFS now supports as of Solaris 10 11/09? I'm testing with samba 3.3.7, compiled with '--with-quotas' that works with UFS quotas. Windows clients see the overall ZFS file system usage and capacity, not the user's personal usage and space. One can use 'quota -v' to check a user's zfs quota; the
