Can I do this?
I currently am sharing out zfs ISCSI volumes from a solaris server to a Mac. I installed ZFS locally on the mac, created a local zfs pool and put a zfs filesystem on the local volume. Can I now mount the volume on the Solaris server and see the data? -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

graph tick label size
Hi R-users, I'm running R under Unix and producing postscript output of graphs. Soemtimes, some tick axis labels disappear from my output. eg if I have a vector months <- c("J","F","M","A","M","J","J","A","S","O","N","D") Then the "M" and one or 2 other

External eSata ZFS raid possible?
Is this possible? I want an external case with 4 HD in, each having an individual eSata cable. I plug in this case only when needed (each HD plugs into my PC separately), and do something like ">import ZFS pool" and use my ZFS raid. When done, I unplug it with ">export ZFS pool" or something similar command. This way I save energy, less noise, etc. I want it only as a

emtpy directory after install of Windows Application
Hello, I'm fairly new to Linux and I like it a lot. Unfortunately some of my favorite applications are Windows based, so I started looking into Wine. I don't have a Windows installation. I got a few 16 bit and 32 bit applications to work, but as soon as I try to set up an application that tries to write files into a folder with spaces, like 'Program Files', the destination

Windows XP and Samba 2.2.7a Print drivers--they upload fine, but driver list for printers is emtpy.
I am logged on as a domain admin and printer admin. I have created and assigned the correct rights to /srv/printers and have created W32X86 and WIN40 subdirectories. I was able to go into server properties and upload all the necessary drivers. When I right click on the printer and say "No." to "Printer driver not installed, do you want to install the driver now?" the drivers

greek symbols using pch
Hi R-users, In a plot, can I specify pch to be a greek symbol? (I looked at show.pch() in the Hmisc package but couldn't see the right symbols in there). If not, I guess I can get around this using text(x,y,expression()). cheers!, Matt. resilver speed.
Is there any way to control the resliver speed? Having attached a third disk to a mirror (so I can replace the other disks with larger ones) the resilver goes at a fraction of the speed of the same operation using disk suite. However it still renders the system pretty much unusable for anything else. So I would like to control the rate of the resilver. Either slow it down a lot so that the

SAMBA PDC User Permissions, Admin Settings, and Logon?
Hi all! First off, I'd like to thank you for the help you've previously given me. I'd like to state a few of the problems I am now experiencing, and you all can provide insight. I've read all the documentation I can find and have surfed the archives for this newsgroup, but to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated! (I am using SAMBA 2.2.7) Issue 1: If I don't

Automate Destroying Snapshot''s
I have created a script that gets a snapshot and backs the snapshot to tape. I would like to keep the snapshot around for one week, than destroy it using the following command: "zfs destroy snapshotlvolume." Is there a way to automate the destroying of snapshots that are older that x amount of days? This message and its attachments may contain legally privileged or

ZFS Filesystem Quota under Solaris 10 and Sparc
Hallo. Filesystem quotas used to work well under Solaris 9 and ufs filesystems on the Sparc platform even with two rules for the folders in the users home directories /home/group/user and the separate filesystem /var/mail holding the inboxes: plugin { quota = fs:Home-Verzeichnis:noenforcing quota2 = fs:INBOX:noenforcing:mount=/var/mail } Since we upgraded last year to Solaris 10

SMART
On Solaris x86, does zpool (or anything) support PATA (or SATA) IDE SMART data? With the Predictive Self Healing feature, I assumed that Solaris would have at least some SMART support, but what I''ve googled so far has been discouraging. http://prefetch.net/blog/index.php/2006/10/29/solaris-needs-smart-support-please-help/ Bug ID: 4665068 SMART support in IDE driver

ZFS hang and boot hang when iSCSI device removed
We''re currently evaluating ZFS prior to (hopefully) rolling it out across our server room, and have managed to lock up a server after connecting to an iSCSI target, and then changing the IP address of the target. Basically we have two test Solaris servers running, and I followed the instructions on the post below to share a zpool on Server1 using the iSCSI Target, and then import that

snapdir visable recursively throughout a dataset
Is there an existing RFE for, what I''ll wrongly call, "recursively visable snapshots"? That is, .zfs in directories other than the dataset root. Frankly, I don''t need it available in all directories, although it''d be nice, but I do have a need for making it visiable 1 dir down from the dataset root. The problem is that while ZFS and Zones work smoothly

RESTORING THUNDERBIRD FILES
Hi All, Last night I downloaded the latest security updates to my Centos 4 system, and rebooted afterwards. This morning I wanted to check my mail, but when I opened Thunderbird, it asked me to set up a mail account. I saved the contents of the previous .thunderbird file structure with tar and created a new mail account with the same details (name, isp, pasword, servers etc.) as the

LIMITING NUMBER OF KERNEL VERSIONS RETAINED
Hi Some time ago there was a discussion on the above subject. I have scanned the past few month's mailing list archives and cannot find the relevant mail(s). Could somebody please repost the solution or point me at the correct resource. I would also appreciate advice on how to do this on a RHEL4 server being updated with up2date. Is it safe just to delete the old kernel and initrd

SERIOUSLY OT STREAM EDITING IMAGES
Hi All, I have been Googling my head off but cannot find a method to stream edit all the images in a directory and to resize them. I have a large number of images of up to 3GB in size that I want to put in albums on a website, but before I do this I need to resize them to a more realistic configuration. I know how to do this manually with the GIMP but it becomes tedious for more than a few
