3.7.1p2: HP-UX 11.00 & NIS+ problems
Hi all,
When we installed OpenSSH 3.7.1p2, we could no longer ssh into the root
account. The following message would appear in the syslog.log:
Oct 8 19:20:38 myhost sshd[22179]: User root not allowed because account is
locked
We use NIS+ under HP-UX 11.00. We have very recently changed the root
password. To change the root password under NIS+ we do the following:
# passed
# chkey -p

OPENssh (2.9p2) and keylogin in NIS+ on Solaris 7 with PAM
Hi,
I'm trying to make sshd perform a keylogin on a Solaris 7 NIS+ client
with PAM.
ssh connects and works fine but keyserv reports that it `can't encrypt
the session key'. So I think the keylogin failed or did not happen when
the user started an ssh session.
The following message is logged in syslog.
>sshd[489]: pam_setcred: error Permission denied

Problem with /usr/bin/profiles "Could not get rootkey"
Hi.
Current host OS: CentOS5.9
Current client OS: Windows XP (all the latest stuff)
Current Samba: 3.6.6-0.129.el5
Ever since 3.4 I am having problems with the "/usr/bin/profiles" binary, it does NOT allow me to change a SID within a registry file.
However, using an older version of the binary (3.0.33-3.29.el5_5.1) it does.
If I execute the following command (note the last 4 digits on

Matching username in ssh_config
Hi all openssh devs out there.
I have quite a few Host-stanzas in my .ssh/config to keep track of all the
different settings and credentials needed to access all different hosts I
connect to.
Now I have ran in to a problem where I need to switch settings based on what
user I'm trying to login to a host as. A simple case is:
ssh -i rootkey root at host123
vs.
ssh -i userkey username at

Should sshd be fixed to handle NIS+ keylogin
To get around the problem of having to change the root password every time a
sys admin leaves the organization Solaris is hardened as follows.
in /etc/default login.
CONSOLE=
Restricted permissions on su so only certain groups can run it.
That way its really difficult to log in as root even if the root password is
known.
For OpenSSH
PermitRootLogin is set to without-password and a key is

That may also be the difference. RHEL-8 is 1.7.3 so I don't know if that
added features or config options which the 1.9.4 has in it.

Problem with `profiles`
I'm trying to move some roaming profiles from Domain A to B. All of the
profiles are from XP SP3. The originating machine is Debian 5/AMD64, samba
3.4.5 from Debian packages. The destination machine is Ubuntu 9.10, but x86.
From everything I've read and found online, `profiles` is supposed to work for
XP with no problems. When I attempt to do a SID change on NTUSER.DAT, I get

Odd ssh authorized_keys problem
Hi all,
I''ve just implemented a [crude] manifest to apply a set authorized_keys
file to the root account of a puppet client.
class rootssh_test {
file { "/root/.ssh/authorized_keys":
owner => root, group => root, mode => 0600,
content => template("rootssh_test")
}
}
The template has two ssh id_rsa lines in.

NIS+ support in samba-2.0.5a
Hi all,
I'm a little confused over what exactly the NISPLUS and NISPLUS_HOME
support options actually mean. I'm hoping somebody can shed a little
light on this.
Our main samba server is a Solaris 2.7 machine (using NIS+ for
passwords, etc, etc.) running samba 2.0.5a. I have recently been
investigating a problem where, after a reboot of the server, various
