xend:default won''t start due to /usr/bin/kstat not locating autosplit.ix
Short:     Which package do I need to install to get "auto/I18N/Langinfo/autosplit.ix"? Long: The problem I have was discussed almost a year ago (see this thread), but the resolution was not complete... can't create printers after upgrading cups
After upgrading cups on my CentOS 6 systems from version 1.4.2-72.el6 to 1.4.2-77.el6, I am no longer able to create working printers, either with lpadmin from the command line or with system-config-printer. When I try to run lpadmin, I get this simple error: [root at vlsi66 ~]# lpadmin -p newprinter -v lpd://printserver/serverqueue-E -P /path/to/ppd/thing.ppd lpadmin: Unknown [root at vlsi66

ARCSTAT Kstat Definitions
Would someone "in the know" be willing to write up (preferably blog) definitive definitions/explanations of all the arcstats provided via kstat? I''m struggling with proper interpretation of certain values, namely "p", "memory_throttle_count", and the mru/mfu+ghost hit vs demand/prefetch hit counters. I think I''ve got it figured out, but

winki article contribution
Dave Fernandes I propose a much needed article on using cups from the command line.? This article, fully written and used by myself will automate the process of adding printers to any desktop or server just by running a script file.? It will teach you lpadmin, lpstat, how to setup and install drivers for printers and how to automate the process. I find this useful on client sites (who love linux

printers don't show up as shares
Hi all, I have been using Samba 3.0.2a-1 on Debian for a while now, no problems. I upgraded to 3.0.4-5 and now I can't see any printers as shares. I have tried everything I can think of with smb.conf and still no printers show up. Below is my smb.conf and printcap files, does anyone know what's wrong here? Thank you in advance, Darren -------/etc/samba/smb.conf--------- [global]

Access denied when printing to Samba printers
Howdy all, I'm setting up a print server machine to serve hosts in an Active Directory domain. Debian GNU/Linux ("sarge", current testing branch), Samba 3.0.0beta2-1. Success so far: - All steps in the current DIAGNOSIS document <http://au1.samba.org/samba/devel/docs/html/diagnosis.html> - Sharing printer drivers from the [print$] share (yay!) - Connecting to the

Easy Solaris2.5.1/Samba2.0.3 ???
All, I only recently started using the Samba product on our Solaris 2.5.1 server. I am using it for the sole purpose of creating unix type queues (actually win clients with attached printers) to allow a 3rd party application (using Oracle8.0.4) to print to client pc's. The 3rd party application will only print via a unix queue. Below is the error I receive when trying to use smbclient;

Samba 2.2 + CUPS driver download work for anyone?
I have tried everything I could possibly think of to get printer driver download working with Samba 2.2.3a-6 and CUPS 1.1.15-4 (latest Debian unstable packages). I am wondering if anyone else has go this to work at all (with newer versions of samba or cups?) -- if so please let me know to give me some hope. Or else I am thinking this is officially 'broken'. CUPS is working perfectly

Seemingly impossible bug: -v not always listing every copied file
Hi raf, Curious issue you have. A few things: What distro(s) are you using? Same rsync version on both ends? Hash of files look correct before and after the rsync? Have you tried using inotify to monitor for changes at the fs level? You should see a "read" on the sender and a "read" + "write" on the receiver. On Tue, Oct 29, 2019, 11:25 PM raf via rsync

Seemingly impossible bug: -v not always listing every copied file
If you are doing a small test run that duplicates the problem, you could use inotifywait or tail -f to watch the log in real time on another terminal. Maybe you'd see something like a line being overwritten, etc. I don't know what rsync would do with a file name that ends in a carriage return (not a newline). It's probably smart enough to handle it, but if it isn't, the current

Deprecation of scp protocol and improving sftp client
It seems that there are a few camps here: * The scp power users - this camp believes that scp supporting backtick notation is fine and that running arbitrary commands is a perfectly fine thing to do. * The restricted shell users - this camp believes that scp supporting backtick may not be the best, and there are various restricted shells which can prevent this. Power users may belong to this
