uploading files via REST?
Hello, I am a bit confused by the REST syntax - how can I PUT an arbitrary file in the bucket? Downloading works fine (Perl+LWP), see below, but for PUT I only see this line in the docs (http://docs.puppetlabs.com/guides/rest_api.html): PUT /{environment}/file_bucket_file/md5/{checksum} Should I compute the MD5 of the file and port its contents at the url ? my code: my $ua =

A round of applause!
Hello All, Just a short note to add my vote for a HUGE round of applause to the CentOS team for their untiring efforts in getting releases out the door. I've just upgraded several servers to 5.6 and it all "just works". None of the team's work is easy to accomplish, especially when less-than-useful complaints keep popping up from thoughtless users who don't appreciate

smb.conf getting changed?
Hi! I got my first Samba 4 system up and running. {No applause, just throw money. Paper please, coins hurt} It is just a home network of about a dozen or so boxes. I have noticed that when I do a testparm, the result is not the same as the file I created. I'm fairly certain it isn't anything to worry about; I'm just trying to learn. Thanks! -jimc

Should Speex VBR Introduce Distortion?
Hi All, I've run into a small hiccup in encoding my audios with Speex. When I encode audience laughter and applause with 'speexenc' (version 1.0.1), the result is quite acceptable... until I enable VBR. Then it distorts horribly. My understanding of VBR is that it frees the encoder to vary the number of bits emitted to better maintain the quality requested, and so I would have

generate random numbers for lotteries
?Hi, I am working with lotteries and I need to generate two sets of uniform random numbers. Requirements: 1) each set has 60 random numbers 2) random numbers in the first set are taken from an interval (0-10), whereas numbers in the second set are taken from a higher interval (15-25) 3) numbers generated in the first set should be matched to numbers in the second set (row by row) so that the

get file information from smb share
Hello, I (and probably everyone else) noticed that right-clicking on a file located on a remote share (at least in the windows explorer) provides a lot of useful info besides the size & access rights. It does that without transferring the entire file, so what I'm wondering if there is a way to access that info using libsmbclient (meaning: is this part of the smb/cifs protocol

regression with restrictions - optimization problem
Dear WizaRds! I am sorry to ask for some help, but I have come to a complete stop in my efforts. I hope, though, that some of you might find the problem quite interesting to look at. I have been trying to estimate parameters for lotteries, the so called utility of chance, i.e. the "felt" probability compared to a rational given probability. A real brief example: Given is a lottery

Ruby fun with MegaMillions
I thought I would write a lottery number generator since I have not had any luck winning the big jackpot - http://megamillions.com/. So far, after over 1.2 million tries, I still have not hit all the numbers from yesterday: 2, 17, 22, 32, 51, 35 (last one is the mega ball). Fun little project that and I thought others would be interested. Let me know if you have a cleaner implementation in mind.

Vorbis for low bitrate speech (10-20kbps)
Hi, (this is my first post here) A previous thread, starting Date: Tue 19 Nov 2002 - 06:09:56 EST "[vorbis] need speech and music in one" http://www.xiph.org/archives/vorbis/200211/0142.html expressed needs similar to mine, to encode a lengthy speech at low bitrate. I did some tests initially in September then concluded in December, and I was surprised to find Vorbis to be the best
