Request to update slapd.conf and OpenLDAP info for Samba-Guide/happy.html
Dear Team, The OpenLDAP stuff on this page: http://us4.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html is not the preferred backend, i.e. ldbm, it really, really needs to be bdb. See: http://www.openldap.org/faq/index.cgi?_highlightWords=bdb%20ldbm&file=1085 "ldbm uses a neutral storage interface which in principle could wrap dbm, ndbm, gdbm or sleepycat as underlying storage;

PDC migration from suse 8.2 - samba 2.2.7 ldap - to latest versions on ubuntu 8.04
Hello, Hopefully I'm in the right place asking for help :-) I need to move from an old physical Suse 8.2 - samba 2.2.7 + ldap - to latest samba versions, I would like to use an ubuntu 8.04 virtual machine. The domain is in production on the physical server, to be dismissed after migration. It is also the file server!!! so /DATA/ has all shared and permission driven file access.. I was

Migrating from Centos 5 NT4 style to Centos 7 issues
Hi. I want to move my current domain running centos 5 to centos 7. Samba3x ==>Samba4x openldap 2.3x==>2.4.x I move my ldap backup that I got from backups: slapcap -l mydomain.ldif Next move my config files to the new server: /etc/ldap.conf /etc/openldap/slapd.conf /etc/openldap/ldap.conf Schemas are correct. Copy DB_CONFIG that doesn't exist on openldap 2.4, to /var/lib/ldap/

Migrating from Centos 5 NT4 style to Centos 7 issues
I vaguely remember some issue where openldap between versions went from using a single file for config to a multiple file config. I think you could use the slapcat command to convert. Moving Samba/LDAP PDC to another server
I need to move our existing Samba/LDAP PDC to another server. Currently it is on server1 and I want server2 to be the Samba/LDAP PDC instead. However, I am uncertain of what files need to be copied over to ensure that I don't have to rejoin machines to the domain. Searching the web I found information on creating the initial PDC setup, but nothing on moving the PDC. I also have a system

move LDAP service to new server
On my old Centos 7 server I had set up a LDAP database for user authentication by other services (the server locally uses normal PAM authenticatin). I set it up originally from a web page describing how to set up an LDAP server for use with MS Outlook clients (which never worked) Is there any (easy to follow) instructions anywhere to tell me how to back up this service and restore it onto a

updating samba/ldap: do I need new attributes?
Hello, I plan to update my samba-3.0.22/openldap-2.3.24 to samba-3.0.34/openldap-2.4.15 and I'm currently testing it. This is on FreeBSD. My idea is : 1) slapcat the openldap server and save the various tdb files. 2) deinstall samba and openldap and wipe out the bdb files 3) install the newer versions 4) slapadd to the new openldap server This seems to work in my test lab. During my tests I

problem with sambaNextRid (WAS: updating samba/ldap: do I need new attributes?)
Hello, I did the steps described below and I have a problem with machine RIDs. When I first join a machine, samba adds to my sambaDomainName ldap entry a sambaNextRid attribute with a value of 1000. Now samba uses this value (incremented each time) to give its RID to the machine. This is going to be a real problem as my current samba computes RDIs as 1000+2*UID. FWIW I'm using

Windows XP joining Samba/LDAP domain problem (User cannot be found) [SOLVED]
To anyone out there who's having problems joining their Samba/LDAP domain with XP here's a solution. The main symptom is that the XP join domain gui returns a "user cannot be found" error. The setup that I experienced this on was configured and managed using the smbldap-tools package. Usual disclaimer applies if it fails to work, you are responsible for backing up your

OpenLDAP Problem
Everyone, We currently are running a Centos3 directory server, I am currently testing centos4 as an upgrade of this machine in the future. There is a special user we have called cn=samba,ou=special in our directory, this user is for samba to use when binding to the directory. On the production replica server, i have taken an offline slapcat ldif of the entire tree. I then copied this file to

nsswitch not working for ldap
I am following the instruction in Samba by Example chapter 6 on a RHEL4 server. Everything seems OK until I get to 6.3.5.7, which says to do the following:- root# getent passwd | grep Adminstrator which returns nothing, indicating that the nsswitch (nss_ldap libary) is not working. I cannot find anything in any of the log files to give my a clue nor any hints on how to debug this. Any

Starting slapd: /bin/bash: /tmp/start-slapd.K12378: Permission denied
Hi, I'm running Centos 5, with openldap Version: 2.3.27 Release: 8.el5_2.4. When I run: $ sudo /etc/init.d/ldap start I get the following error: Starting slapd: /bin/bash: /tmp/start-slapd.l14891: Permission denied (obviously the temp file number changes every time). It appears to be a permission problem but I thought I did everything to set up the permissions correctly... Everything

Samba 3.0.20 and UserManager
Hi all. Just tried to upgrade our test PDC server from 3.0.14a to 3.0.20, and now i've stumbled in to the following error. Using the User Manager for Domains causes a "Procedure out of range" error. Using DameWare NT Utilities causes the application to crash. Tried both in WIN2000 and XP. If I downgrade to 3.0.14a again everything is OK. Server Manager works OK in both versions.

Hey list, I've got a problem with my PDC/BDC setup. Can't login to Samba PDC
We're trying to migrate from a windows NT domain to a Samba domain. I've installed Samba 3.0.2a with an LDAP backend. The server seems to be running fine as I can browse the shares from a non-domain Win2k workstation after a successful password check. The workstations join the domain just fine but after I join them to the domain I can't log in to them. I've checked my schannel

Assorted collection of small improvements in making libguestfs build on non-Linux OSes; most of the changes impact tests though. Thanks, Pino Toscano (7): build: check the path of fuser, and use it in FUSE code tests: move guestfs-md5.sh to test-data v2v: tests: isolate SHA1 calculation in an own shared function v2v: tests: use guestfs-hashsums.sh for MD5 php: pass $(MAKE) to

Samba3 to Samba4 migration: Databases and backend.
Hi! We're currently in the process of evaluating an upgrade from our current setup (Samba3 with Kerberos/OpenLDAP and Bind), to Samba4. When we started reading about the migration process, we were led to believe that OpenLDAP wasn't fully supported in Samba4, and thus decided to use Samba4's builtin solution. Then upon reading the How-To on the Wiki, the "Migrating from LDAP
