Thank you all for the messages
I have been overwhelmed today with well-wishing posts. I began by trying to answering each and every one but I soon realized that there were going to be too many. So I want to thank each of you who offered me your best wishes -- I fully appreciate every post. -Tom -- Tom Eastep \ Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool Shoreline, \ http://shorewall.net Washington USA \

migration strategy
I would like some advice on a migration strategy. Soon I will be migrating from a old samba 2.2 server PDC server to a new samba 3 server (on new hardware). I also wish to take this opportunity to rename the server which I understand will change the SID. What is the recommended method to achieve this without having to touch any of the workstations? Can I copy the old smbpasswd file to the new

ssh-agent hides sk "confirm user presence" message
Hey there, I've noticed some unexpected behavior when I occasionally need to forward an ed25519-sk key with ssh-agent. When using the key without an agent, it prompts with a reminder to touch the key: $ ssh user at remote Confirm user presence for key ED25519-SK MD5:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX User presence confirmed But as soon as I add the key to an agent, it now hides

NFS and firewall issues
Hi, I have a small home LAN, where one machine (192.168.1.1) connects to the internet via dialup (no DSL here) and shares the connection with IP masquerading. To achieve this, I tried out various recipes found on the internet, and finally put this in /etc/rc.d/rc.local: --8<------ rc.local ------------ #!/bin/sh # # This script will be executed *after* all the other init scripts. # You can

[LLVMdev] call for suggestions
Hi, Dear LLVMers I just touch llvm source code for several days, and I didn't know the interfaces of the analysises and transformations of LLVM. For exampe, how to backtrace CFG, and whether exits a backtracking interator to do such work? For a novice, I also seek for suggestions about how to become familiar with LLVM interfaces as soon as possible. Now I have a plan to write a pass based on

New Cisco "Color" Phone
I thought you guys would be interested to know: eWeek has a short article about Cisco bringing out a new IP phone: 7970G. It has a high resolution color touch-screen display with support for XML and can act as a mini-browser to allow the development of vertical applications. But get this: the price will be $995. I don't think I'll be getting one any time soon.

[LLVMdev] llvm.memory.barrier does not work

It's going away in favor of the new fence instruction (and I'll remove it as soon as dragonegg catches up). It should still work at the moment, though. > (1) false arguments do not work >

OT: Call for beta testers (well... perhaps late Alpha).
We've just launched the beta of a free service which is, really, still only JUST out of the alpha stages. http://www.voipmagnet.com The basic idea is this: it's an opt-in directory focused on VoIP contact info (with elements of social networking and privacy control). Again, the service is very rough, but we'd like input from the VoIP community. There are a good many things that are

How can you buy R?
Hi all, This may seem like a dumb question, but I work for an entity that is soon converting to XP across the board, and I will lose the ability to install software on my own. The entity has a policy of only using software that has been purchased and "properly licensed" (whatever that means). This means I will soon lose the ability to use R at work - something I can't do without

Database Triggered Events in Rails.
I''m creating a message queue system, (think JMS message queue) Basically, I''ll be firing off an http request as soon as a row appears in a database. Now in past implementations I''ve done the following. 1. Polled the database every 0.10 seconds. 2. If something was there to work, I''d tag it as complete. 3. Create a separate thread. (no further database hits

Why doesn't yp.icecast.org show my stream?
Jack Moffitt <jack@xiph.org> writes: > The source is in icecast cvs in the 'icedir' module. But what's > actually running is slightly modified. Heh. Is it possible to see a copy of what is actually running? I'm probing the directory server with a quick script but I'm getting 400 URL must be absolute which I should figure out soon. >>

ie6 and outlook
Hi, I made a Howto for installing IE6, MS Office 2000 and some other apps with wine-20031212 (all never versions have certain drawbacks). Everything works fine and I will soon publish this Howto on my site. In comparison to Crossover there are only two drawbacks with my installation: 1. When IE6 tries to open a new window it is blank. That means also if links want to open themselves in a new

Noob question: user moved to a OU dissapear from getent, but groups don't
Thanks to both for answers. I'm using the latest version of wheezy-backports (Version 4.1.17-Debian) and in this server i don't need to map the AD users to linux tools (i'm doing tests before change anything in production servers), but i'm planing to use a File Server and a Print Server in separated machines and I need to have access to AD users. If I disable winbind entries on

thank you
I recently got into using RoR, and the only issue that concerned me was the apparently complexity of deployment. Setting up fastcgi can be a bit of a pain, and I was hoping that the Rails community would come up with something simpler. Mongrel was recommended to me from someone on my local Ruby user group. It was trivial to install as a Gem on my Linux desktop and the FreeBSD server that I am

help wanted: update ssh-askpass programs for new U2F / prompt hints
Hi, When we added U2F support, we also extended the interface used by ssh and ssh-agent to invoke the $SSH_ASKPASS program. Originally, the askpass prompt was used to obtain passphrases for ssh in cases where it was not possible to read them from the terminal. Later it was (ab)used for showing confirmation prompts for each use of any key that was added to the agent using "ssh-add -c".
