Slow RAID resync
OK todays problem.
I have a HP N54L Microserver running centos 6.5.
In this box I have a 3x2TB disk raid 5 array, which I am in the
process of extending to a 4x2TB raid 5 array.
I've added the new disk --> mdadm --add /dev/md0 /dev/sdb
And grown the array --> mdadm --grow /dev/md0 --raid-devices=4
Now the problem the resync speed is v slow, it refuses to rise above
5MB, in general

Software RAID on Centos 4 - new issue
OK, I have managed to get software RAID 1 running on my wonderful Proliant
server but now have two challenges:
1) Fresh after an OS install and reboot, the RAID array starts to do its
stuff but straight away (as part of the boot messages) I am told that the
second disk is 'not ready for command' and the system hangs as soon as
resyncing starts. I think this is fixed by adding an hdparm

Turn an ext2 filesystem into a component of a mirrored RAID?
We have a CentOS 3 server with about 300GB of data on an ext2
filesystem that we need to mirror onto a new drive, which we're then
going to pull out and put into a second server. A straight
disk-to-disk copy (with rsync, tar, or "cp -a" doesn't much matter)
manages about 75MB per minute, which would take almost three days, and
the system gets very sluggish while such a copy is

Software RAID resync
I have configured 2x 500G sata HDD as Software RAID1 with three partitions
md0,md1 and md2 with md2 as 400+ gigs
Now it is almost 36 hours the status is
cat /proc/mdstat
Personalities : [raid1]
md0 : active raid1 hdb1[1] hda1[0]
104320 blocks [2/2] [UU]
resync=DELAYED

Software RAID1 with CentOS-6.2
Hello,
Having a problem with software RAID that is driving me crazy.
Here's the details:
1. CentOS 6.2 x86_64 install from the minimal iso (via pxeboot).
2. Reasonably good PC hardware (i.e. not budget, but not server grade either)
with a pair of 1TB Western Digital SATA3 Drives.
3. Drives are plugged into the SATA3 ports on the mainboard (both drives and
cables say they can do 6Gb/s).
4.

Turning root partition into a RAID array
I have a CentOS 4.2 system that was set up VERY quickly following the demise
of its former life as a CentOS 3 server - you don't want the full story, but
it had to be done quickly to get a company up and working following a slight
disaster involving an electrician, a portable appliance safety tester and a
pulled power cable - anyway, here's where I am at...
Everything is running fine but

CentOS 4 Software Raid1 questions
I want to mirror an existing 40GB data only drive using
software Raid1 on my new CentOS 4 server. The existing
drive is connected to a Promise Ultra 100 TX2 controller
(non-raid). I have read about mdadm and understand how to
create the Raid1 on /dev/mdxx devices. However I would like
to know if the existing data on the orignal 40GB drive in
the system will be destroyed when I create the raid with

Replication plans
Several companies have been interested in getting replication support
for Dovecot. It looks like I could begin implementing it in a few months
after some other changes. So here's how I'm planning on doing it:
What needs to be replicated:
- Saving new mails (IMAP, deliver)
- Copying existing mails
- Expunges
- Flag and keyword changes
- Mailbox creations, deletions and renames

raid1 disk format?
If you have a disk with several partitions set up as members of a raid1
md devices, can you make a dd image of that disk to replace its matching
drive with identical partitions or are there differences between the
mirrored partitions?

software raid1 syncing
hello all,
I have a setup that is raid 1 and put the mirrored drive back in and now it is still showing as degraded saying: raid1: raid set md6 active with 1 out of 2 mirrors with this message on all the raids.i know i am wrong by saying this but i thought putting in the driving and rebooting would start the re syncing itself. what do i have to do to add this back in, i am so confused with this

mdX and mismatch_cnt when building an array
CentOS 6.3, x86_64.
I have noticed when building a new software RAID-6 array on CentOS 6.3
that the mismatch_cnt grows monotonically while the array is building:
# cat /proc/mdstat
Personalities : [raid6] [raid5] [raid4]
md11 : active raid6 sdg[5] sdf[4] sde[3] sdd[2] sdc[1] sdb[0]
3904890880 blocks super 1.2 level 6, 512k chunk, algorithm 2 [6/6] [UUUUUU]

mdraid on top of mdraid
Is it possible or will there be any problems with using mdraid on top of mdraid?
specifically say
mdraid 1/5 on top of mdraid multipath.
e.g. 4 storage machines exporting iSCSI targets via two different
physical network switches
then use multipath to create md block devices
then use mdraid on these md block devices
The purpose being the storage array surviving a physical network switch

info about hdds in raid
How can I tell wich HDD to swap, when the "cat /proc/mdstat" says one HDD of the RAID1 array has died?
Does the HDD's has some serial numbers, that I can see in "reality", and I can get that number from e.g.: a commands output?
How could I know wich HDD to swap in e.g.: a RAID1 array?
thank you

usb drives & Orico ORICO 9548U3-BK
Everyone,
Is there a way to manually assign usb drives to a specified device
label. Is there a way to force two usb drives to be labeled as
/dev/sdc and /dev/sdd?
I decided to build an archive server for the purpose of backing up
other fedora/centos desktops at the office. I built a machine and have
installed Centos 7.3 on it with all updates current. I also purchased
a 3.0 usb sata drive

Kickstart install with a degraded raid array
Is it possible to install CentOS 5 with a degraded RAID 1 array using
kickstart? I have the kickstart file already created but the "server" I
want to use only has 1 hard drive in it at the moment. Until I can order
a 2nd drive, I wanted to install the OS then once I received the
replacement drive "fix" the array. I have seen instructions how to do
this manually, but so far have
