I am trying to keep two hard drives mirrored on a local machine. They are both 120 GB and I want to run rsync 3 times a day. I don't have an rsync server running and am only using the rsync.exe with a current cygwin1.dll. the command I use to sync the drives is: rsync -vvva --delete /cygdrive/d /cygdrive/e What do you guys think is the issue here? The command will start and I will see

> Do you know if is possible to store indexes locally instead of NFS in dovecot 2.2.7 ? Yes you can set different paths for mail and index storage. mail_location = maildir:/mnt/email/%n/_folders:INDEX=/local/email/%n/_dovecot:CONTROL=/local/email/%n/_dovecot However in my experience when i did this the indexes seemed to have issues keeping updated across multiple machines. Want my RSYNC documentation link to be added to your resources list.
Dear RSYNC guys, As initially i found it really confusing setting up RSYNC done, but as i got it through, I was really fascinated with it. So i decided to create a new tutorial on my own regarding " UNDERSTAND RSYNC SERVERS & THEIR IMPLEMENATIONS". Direct link : http://www.amitsharma.linuxworld.com/rsync.htm I have explained with examples & figures to make it look more

bwlimit on rsync locally
Does "bwlimit" option really work on rsync locally? We have one type of harddisk and want to slow down rsync I/O on disk because I don't want the disk head gets too hot. While I'm trying to use --bwlimit option, it looks the rsync speed was slowed down, but iostat is not improved at all. In both case the block written speed is increased by the same amount. How could I really

globbing doesn't work locally
This is on rsync v2.4.5 on RedHat 7.3. If I do something like rsync ... 'somehost:/path/to/files.*' /local/path it works fine, but if I do rsync ... '/local/path/to/files.*' somehost:/path/to globbing fails, yielding an error about being unable to find a file named 'files.*': link_stat /local/path/to/files.* : No such file or directory rsync error: partial

Deleting a remote file when deleted locally...
Hello, I have several individual files in a directory that I want to keep syncronized. Here's an example: Server #1 (host): /tmp/file1 /tmp/file2 Now of course I can run "rsync -a /tmp/file1 remoteuser@remotehost:/tmp"... But, when I delete /tmp/file1 from the host and try to run this it complains about /tmp/file1 being non-existant... Can I force (or using a more elegant

rsync caching files on my local hard drive and not deleting
Hi guys/gals, I am using rsync to keep two external USB disks sync'd. I have one disk that I use on a day to day basis, I then run rsync periodically to then make sure all the info on that disk is mirrored on the second disk. Last night I tried to do this, as I always have. However, I encountered an issue. In OSX I suddenly got an 'out of disk space' warning. Monitoring disk space

Deleted remote directories not being removed locally
Hi, I'm using the following command to grab a list of directories, not their contents, from a source server and create them locally(a backup server) rsync -v --stats -d --include='+ */' --include='- *' --force --delete-during --backup \ --backup-dir=/mnt/backups/_DELETED 192.168.0.2::'ucp/*' . It recreates the list of directories locally with out a problem.

Hi, talking of rsync and compression is may be also a bit misleading. On the destination there will be no compressed files if you transfer with rsync! The transfere on the network by rsync might be compressed! /G?tz Am 09.08.15 um 18:33 schrieb Kevin Laurie: > Dear Steve, > Very valuable info. I need help rsyncing Local Disks
Recently I've found out about rsync and wanted to use this to mirror local disks on one of my servers. I first ran Ghost for Linux to get the exact clone I was looking for, and now I'm ready to setup rsync to keep my drives mirrored on a continual basis. Here's my setup: 1 Seagate 4.6GB SCSI on /dev/sda, mounted like this: /dev/sda1 ==> /boot - 101M /dev/sda2 ==> swap - 269M

rsync question: building list taking forever
Guys, I've setup an rsync between two directories that I've mounted locally on a jump box. Long story short, the two directories are both NFS shares from two different hosts. Our security dept won't allow us to SSH between the two data centers, directly. But the jump host can contact both. So what I've done is mount the NFS shares from one host in each data center on the jump box
