virt-install in CentOS 5
Hi All, [I originally posted this message in the main CentOS users' list, but later found this list. So, I'm reposting it here since this is where it belongs.] I'm trying to install a Fedora 8 domU on a CentOS 5 dom0, but the following command fails: [root at xenmaster ~]# virt-install -p -n krs -r 512 -m 00:16:3E:66:94:5F -b xenbr0 --vnc --vncport=5910 -l

DNS CNAME question
Not sure if this is the best place to ask this question (and if so, please point me to a better listserv), but is there anything "wrong" RFC or best practice wise with pointing a CNAME record to a DNS server? (I'm using EveryDNS.net, and I'd like to make my CNAME records ns1-> 4.myDomain.com correspond to ns1->ns4.EveryDNS.net.) -------------- next part -------------- An

Intrusion Detection Systems
Situation: We are providing hosting services. I've grown tired of the various kiddie scripts/dictionary attacks on various services. The latest has been against vsftpd, on systems that I can't easily control vs. putting strict limits on ssh. We simply have too many users entering from too many networks many with dynamic IP addresses. Enter.... thinking about LIDS or Log Based

testing wireless security
I have been playing around with 3 ath based FreeBSD boxes and seem to have got everything going via WPA and a common PSK for 802.11x auth. However, I want to have a bit more certainty about things working properly. What tools do people recommend for sniffing and checking a wireless network ? In terms of IDS, is there any way to see if people are trying to bruteforce the network ? I see

centosplus kernel question
I noticed a new upstream kernel was released yesterday and now wondered how long until the corresponding version of the centosplus kernels are updated? https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2007-0705.html -- Said one park ranger, 'There is considerable overlap between the intelligence of the smartest bears and the dumbest tourists.' Setting ACLs
This is possibly the dumbest question I have asked ever, but how do you set ACLs on files within a ZFS filesystem? Trying to use setfacl(1) diverts me to the acl(5) manpage; well, I know that I need to use NFSv4 style ACLs, but where is the utility to do so? This is on Solaris 10 Update 2. Thanks, Ceri -- That must be wonderful! I don''t understand it at all.

Compiling legacy LSI megaraid drivers (Linux 2.6.11) with xen 2.0.7?
Hi all, I''ve been using Xen for a while and I am trying to install it onto a Dell Poweredge 2950. The 2850 uses a PERC4/Di raid on motherboard, which requires the LSI Legacy SCSI Raid driver to be compiled into the 2.6.11-xen0 kernel. I''ve been recompiling the kernel by: 1. Go into the linux-2.6.11-xen0 directory. Select the driver using "make ARCH=xen

XEN for Debian Installer development
Hi, I''m tweaking Debian Installer and I use VWware to test it. I am courius if XEN could be suitable for the testing of Debian Installer. Is there anybody who tried it? What I need is that I make an ISO image which is booted in virtual machine (DomU). The virtual machine handles an ISO image as an ordinery CD-ROM. Then I need to connect to several consoles (Like Alt+F1, Alt+F2, in

virtual sprawl - managing password changes
We are using the free VMware Server on CentOS 4. Almost all of our VMs are CentOS 4 as well. We have 7 VMware hosts with about 40 total virtual machines. It's been a very successful architecture for us. I'm wondering how the rest of the community is managing updates of root (and other local account) passwords in a virtual sprawl environment (or a physical environment with lots of hosts).

VMs won't power on
Hello - I have installed the VMware-server-1.0.5-80187.i386.rpm package on a CentOS 5.1 system. I then ran the vmware-config.pl program. I chose mostly default answer, except that I did not choose the NAT option; I saw no errors. I used the VMware Server Console to create a Red Hat Linux VM. I also copied an externally created VM into the '/var/lib/vmware/Virtual Machines/'

Add a month to a Date object
Howdy all, This may be the dumbest question in the world, but how can you "add one month" to a Date object? I can''t just add 30 days, because months have varying lengths. Any help would be much appreciated... Thanks! -Neal --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on Rails:

Please, permit me as I know this will be one of the dumbest questions to ask in a group like this. I'll apprecaite any specific guide/instruction. Thanks

imapc fetch optimization
Hi, imapc does a lot of UID FETCH $UID (BODY.PEEK[]), which is nice, because it works even with the dumbest IMAP server, altough it really kills performance, especially on high latency lines. I wonder: if IMAP servers can effectively handle boundless fetches (like a list with all wanted UIDs, or simply 1:* if all are needed), do you see this as a good addition to develop? This could be a

Smartest way to evaluate question forms
Hi, I'm trying to help a friend who is doing a thesis in a nurse college, to evaluate medical question forms. There are about 30 questions giving more than 110 parameters to describe each responding person's (gender, health etc.) and there are about 120 question forms to evaluate. I have basically 2 questions. 1. What to search for. 2. How to evaluate it statisticaly. As for No. 1. I have

Fwd: Re: Poisson GLM using non-integer response/predictors?
Hi, Use offset variables if count occurrences of an event and you want to model the observation time. glm(count ~ predictors + offset(log(observation_time)), family=poisson) If you want to compare durations, look at library(survival), ?coxph If tnoise_sqrt is the square root of tourist noise, your example seems incorrect, because it is a predictor, not the dependent variable tnoise_sqrt ~

Off-topic: (Simple?) Random Sampling when n is a random variable
Hi everyone, I'm involved in a discussion with a colleague. He suggested a sample design for a finite-sized process that (to all intents and purposes) involves tossing a coin and examining the unit if the coin shows Heads. I should emphasize that we're both approaching the problem from a design-based sampling theory point of view. So I have no argument about the appropriateness of the
