VMWare Server doesn't like new CentOS installation?
I just got a nice, shiny new machine at work, a Core 2 Duo, on which I just finished installing CentOS 5.2 with a fair number of packages, SeaMonkey 1.1.10, Adobe Reader 8.0, Adobe Flash 9.0, mplayer, mplayerplug-in (both from rpmforge), and I think that was it. Then I went and got the latest VMWare Server, 1.0.7, from VMWare, pulled down their rpm, installed it, and ran vmware-config.pl, which

vmware problem took down X on host?
I run VMWare server 1.07 on Centos 5. Last night I left a Windows 2000 virtual machine doing a ClamWin scan of drive M: when I went to bed around midnight. Drive M: is actually a volume on the Centos 5 host, mounted via Samba. It has about 40Gb of photos on it, plus a few other things. I had the VM up visible in the VMWare Server Console running under KDE on display 8 (X session #1), my

Vmware Server on Centos 5.1
Hi all, I am running some Centos 5.0 x86_64 servers as host os for vmware server 1.0.3 on both Opteron and Xeon systems. They are all running fine and stable. But now I am in doubt to upgrade to 5.1. Has any one done that yet, upgraded his vmware hosts with Centos/RHEL 5.0 to 5.1 ? tia + best regards, matthias

ot: vlans and vmware
Does anyone have VLAN tagging working from within a guest on vmware-server? I'm running a centos 4.5 guest on a centos 5 host with vmware server 1.04and I've tried creating vlans using both the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts method and just doing it from the cli via vconfig. Either way appears to work, the OS creates the vlans, but I think vmware's network adapter must be eating the

Re: VMware tools in standard CentOS [ was Re: www.centos.org - Contact the CentOS Development Team Form ]
[ Sorry for the very belated response ] Thanks, Tru. What is the process for Sean's work to make it into the standard CentOS5 and 5.1 repositories? How will the tools package get updated as you patch the kernel? Perhaps we should cc Sean on the email? His home page on the Duke server has no contact information. Thanks, Andrew [ Resent to the centos-virt email list, as recommended by

Xen HVM images on VMware ESX
Hi everyone, I''m trying to convert some Xen HVM images to run on VMware ESX, unsuccessfully thus far. I believe the problem is that ESX by default wants the VMs to use SCSI virtual disks, but my HVM VMs are configured to use IDE virtual disks. If you have any experience with this sort of thing, please get in touch. Thanks! Diwaker -- http://floatingsun.net/

Centos 5.2 on Vmware Server: Disk space not preallocated -> no disk found by installer
Hi folks I am trying to install CentOS 5.2 in Vmware Server environment. In my VM disk space is not preallocated for the virtual disk (dynamically). The installer doesn't find the disk. When preallocating 6 GB there is no problem. See screenshot[0] Any ideas? kind regards Sven [0] http://bayimg.com/image/lamidaabe.jpg

Syslinux 4.04 gpxelinux.0 http performance problem with VMware VMs
Hello, In my testing environment I have two VMs on ESXi 5.0. VM A = dhcp/tftp/PXE/http server, running CentOS 6.2. Syslinux 4.04 with the included gpxelinux.0. VM B = PXE boot client. If I run CentOS 6.2 also on the VM B, I can easily transfer 50+ MB/sec over http between the VMs (wget, links). Now, if I PXE boot gpxelinux.0 on the VM B, and start to download bigger initrd image over http the

LVM VG disappears after kernel upgrade on 5.1
I finally got 5.1 to boot after install (install couldn't keep the disk IDs from getting crossed up, so at reboot partitions were not where install said they would be). I needed to compile vmware and nvidia modules, but decided to upgrade first. Told yumex to upgrade everything. When I went to reboot the VG with / on it is not seen by the kernel. (root partition is LVM on top of RAID

Unstable VMware 1.0.5 host after 4.7 upgrade
After upgrading to 4.7 x86_64 on all our boxes (from 4.6), we have 3 VMware Server 1.0.5 hosts that are unstable. Sometimes they spontaneously reboot, other times they freeze and require a hard reset. Under 4.6, they were rock solid. Failures tend to be associated with a guest start-up event, but are often at random times as well. There is no useful evidence in either the vmware or messages log

VMWare - 5.2 Update - Kernel Best Practices
Thanks for all the great stuff. Executive Summary: Kernel Parameters or Special Kernel for 5.2 on VMWare? More Details: Is it the best practice to use the specially compiled kernels (when available, typically here: http://people.centos.org/~tru/kernel-vm/5/RPMS/i386/ ) or are kernel parameters now able to achieve the same thing? pre-built images
Tru has already been building vmware images ( http://people.centos.org/tru/vmware/ ) for various roles. I was wondering if there was any interest in prebuilt Xen images as well ? And if so, what would be the roles people would want images done for, and what might be suiteable package sets to include for those roles. -- Karanbir Singh : http://www.karan.org/ : 2522219 at icq

VMware and multiple vmdk files
With VMWare (server), you can pre-allocate your image in several vmdk files. But I have not bee able to mount that in guestfs. On file (e.g. guest.vmdk) is a text file pointing to all the other files (e.g. guest-f001.vmdk, guest-f002.vmdk,...). I tried the following scenarios without success: 1- just adding the base vmdk: add_drive guest.vmdk 2- adding all the files: add_drive guest-f001.vmdk

Centos5-live kernel panic?
I am fairly sure that I had gotten this to work before, and I know that the Centos4-live disk worked OK, but now (maybe since I upgraded BIOS) I get this sequence after booting the live cd: Creating /var in RAM ... no images from www.imdb.com
For some reason, I no longer seem to get images from www.imdb.com , i.e. Internet Movie DataBase. The effect is really weird. I get from Firefox, Konqueror and Chromium. I'm running Centos 7. It's been happening for a few months now, so I really cannot tell what changed that mioght have caused it. How do I debug and fix this? Chromium still asks me for passwords a lot. I expect that is a
