VMware Server clock woes (running too fast)
I'm running VMware Server 1.0.6 on a CentOS 5.2 host and am having some clock difficulties. Host OS is x86_64 running on 1.9 GHz AMD Sempron, nVidia chipset. Guest OS's are 32-bit FreeBSD (clock works fine after disabling ACPI, setting the clock source to the PIT, and running the guest tools), WinXP (unknown clock status), and i686 CentOS 5.2 (here is the problem). I've tried pretty

VMware and Time moved backwards
Hi, I followed the discussions regarding the "time moved backward" problem and the use of ntp in such cases. At our department we are running two dovecot servers within an vmware server environment, and unfortunately the timedrift (with ntpd active) exceeds sometimes up to 30 minutes virtual drift within 10 minutes realtime (mostly into future). This is due to some overcorrections

Follow-up on Fast clock under VMWare
Hi everyone: Just a follow up on the fast clock issue: "Can you double-check that 'cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/cpuinfo_max_freq' outputs the same number as your 'cpuKHZ' setting in your config.ini file?" There is no cpufreq directory under /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0; all I see is "cache" (dir), "crash_notes" (a file) and

tick divider bugs
Hi all, If you are using the kernel divider= option in your vmware quest, you are probably aware of the bugs reported at: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=315471 Someone @redhat "confirmed" the fix is in the test kernel -92. I tried it but it seems to have the same problem as before - when used with clocksource=pit, it hangs on bootup. Wonder if some of you can test this

ntp on kvm
We've noticed our fully-virtualized KVM guests' time keeps getting faster, despite running ntpd. A quick google reveals this to be a known problem with virtual guests. It seems there are a variety of solutions, some apparently vendor-specific. What is the best practice as of now for KVM guests? * Setting independent_wallclock=1 (or is that a xen-only thing)? * Passing kernel

timekeeping on VMware guests
Howdy, I am having time-drift issues on my CentOS VM. I had referred to following documentation: http://wiki.centos.org/TipsAndTricks/VMWare_Server , however it didn't help. I used kickstart for creating this VM and I am listing important steps in ref to timekeeping issue. Any comments or suggestion would be appreciated. - CS. ------------------- # For EL5 virtual machines, Append the

[PATCH 1/2] lguest: handle dodgy/non-existent TSC. Host code.
Lguest currently requires a TSC, which breaks older machines and Matt Mackall who boots the host with "notsc". In addition, there is no good solution to changing TSC speeds (informing all the guests about the TSC impending change before it happens would be a great deal of code and have issues with disobedient guests). This patch makes the host determine if the TSC is both constant and

Problems running samba in vmware
I have used samba for nearly 9 years with no problems and we have about 20 users. In the past we have had a dedicated samba server. We have recently virtualized this server to a quad core Q6600 using vmware virtual server 1.0.4 on a 64 bit host running ubuntu 7.10. As part of the virtualization I installed samba 3.0.26a in ubuntu 7.10. Since this has happened users have complained about

[PATCH] efi: leaving long mode in kernel_jump routine
Actually your Syslinux config is less relevant than the kernel config file. Indeed Syslinux infers the method to use from the kernel image itself. I assume the .config is public. I will take a look as soon as I can Thomas Le 04/08/2015 14:09, intrigeri via Syslinux a ?crit : > Thomas Letan via Syslinux wrote (04 Aug 2015 09:27:38 GMT) : >> Are you using EFI Handover Protocol? >

Migrating from KVM to XEN - kernel panic
First let me say that I'm not a sysadmin, but am simply wearing that hat this week so please excuse my ignorance. I need to temporarily move some virtual servers from a CentOS-KVM platform to a CentOS-XEN platform while I do some upgrades to the CentOS box. I've created a local LV, and used DD and SCP to transfer the block device from the VKM machine to the XEN machine. For quite a

could not retrieve information from environment
Greetings. I am trying to set up a test puppet server in my environment to evaluate windows clients. On the server side, I am using puppet 2.7.14 (from the repos). I''m using the 2.7.14 windows 64 bit on the client (windows 2008 R2). I have another puppetmaster already using "puppet" hostname in DNS (running a very old version of puppet - can''t upgrade yet for various

Editing the boot prompt
Hi there!! I has been modified the syslinux.cfg file according to the rules to add some boot parameters but since this modification, every time I that I highlight the modified entry in the boot menu and hit the TAB button on my keyboard, the entry's boot parameters is displayed twice and when I try to "backspace" them out, the line again get displayed twice and so on. Dear, "Xenoppix-x86-64(Xen3.0.2+KNOPPIX-x86_64-5.0.1) CD size" is released. http://unit.aist.go.jp/itri/knoppix/xen/index-en.html Xenoppix-x86-64 exploits latest CPU (Intel Core2 Duo and AMD Athlon64). * Xenoppix-x86-64 boots both X86 and X86_64 linux kernel on HVM of Xen. * Xenoppix-x86-64 looks like KNOPPIX but all packages are replaced for X86_64. * Xenoppix-x86-64 also

Dependency Ordering Confusion
I have a module for windows nodes that is defined like: class ast_win { Class[''ast_win::env''] ~> Class[''ast_win::restart''] -> Class[''ast_win''] ast_win::env contains a bunch of scripts that modify the environment on the host machine. Mostly the PATH variable, but also other variables (e.g. http_proxy) that are required for

Slow clock on CentOS 4.4 in a VMware VM
I'm running a CentOS 4.4 VM on a Windows XP host with VMware Server, and have the problem that my clock runs too slow (it happens in VMware Workstation as well). It loses between 30 and 45 seconds every minute! This is a known problem and can be fixed by adding "nosmp noapic nolapic" to the boot command according to VMware tech note ID 1420. However, despite adding these

Fwd: Re: Dotlock dovecot-uidlist errors / NFS / High Load
Stan, Thanks for the reply. In our case we have actually already done most of the work you suggested to no avail. We had rebuilt two new ntp servers that sync against two stratum 1 sources, and all our nfs clients, regardless of using dovecot, sync to those two machines. You bring up the difference between bare metal and hypervisor, and we are running these machines on vmware 4.0. All the

Errors when running 'puppet agent --test' command
Hello, First of all I am new to the Puppet technology. I am trying to get my puppet agent (windows) to reach my puppet master (Linux) server. In this tutorial: http://docs.puppetlabs.com/learning/agent_master_basic.html It claims to test your puppet agent you need to use the ''puppet agent --test'' command. My result when I tried this is: C:\Program Files (x86)\Puppet
