Network Interface Options
I see that by default Xen seems to emulate a Realtek 8139 in my hvm''s. I have a quad port Intel PCIe nic available and wondered if I remove the network line altogether from the config and pass the nic in will I have near native performance without pv drivers? Also, is it possible to pass in one of each of the 4 ports into 4 different hvms? I don''t exactly know how the NIC

pci device not owned by pciback.
So yesterday I got was able to get a domU successfully using a PCI SCSI card. This morning I restarted the host server. When I try to start up the same domU I get this error: Error: pci: improper device assignment specified: pci: 0000:0e:04.0 must be co-assigned to the same guest with 0000:0e:04.0, but it is not owned by pciback. How do I make this card owned by pciback on reboot. Do I need to

remote command execution
I need to launch a job remotely from a Windows machine on a CentOS box, the caveat is that I can't maintain a connection once I have initiated the job. Anyone got an idea how I can accomplish this? Thanks! jlc

PCI passthrough of cciss HBA
All, I would like to run the following issue past the list to confirm that my problem analysis makes sense or whether I missed something: We have a HP ML370G6 server with VT-x and VT-d enabled in the BIOS. It is equipped with two Smart Array HBAs - one connected to the HDD array (SmartArray P800) and one connected to an LTO tape drive (SmartArray P212). Both controllers use the same driver

pvmove speed
Are there any ways to improve/manage the speed of pvmove? Man doesn't show any documented switches for priority scheduling. Iostat shows the system way underutilized even though the lv whose pe's are being migrated is continuously being written (slowly) to. Thanks! jlc

pciback module not working
This issue was brought up about a year and a half ago. So I''ll bring it up again and see if anything happens. I''ve got an infiniband network and am attempting to pass the infiniband card through the host and give it to the guest. I''m working with standard CentOS 5.2 on both guest and host with their provided xen (3.0.3 ish). I''ve also attempted to install the

Re: Poor performance running WinXP x86 hvm underCentOS5.1x64 with xen3.1
I found on some CPUs an ACPI based HVM chews up a lot of CPU time versuses an APIC HVM, so in Windows I would change the computer type in device manager to "Standard PC" and disable acpi in the domain config. -Ross ----- Original Message ----- From: xen-users-bounces@lists.xensource.com <xen-users-bounces@lists.xensource.com> To: xen-users@lists.xensource.com

backups and md5 all in one while splitting
I'm trying to back up our svn repositories, and I found a nice little backup command line bzip's the backup and creates the md5 hash all in one: svnadmin dump --deltas /repo |bzip2 |tee dump.bz2 | md5sum >dump.md5 The problem is I need to split the backups, so this doesn't really work. Is there perhaps another way of piping things to allow for splitting of the backups?

Dedicated Nvidia PCI passthrough for Linux PVM
Hi, Not trying to be obnoxious on this list. I thought perhaps phrasing the subject line specific will catch some ones eye (hopefully). Would like some help on 2 issues. 1 - I have PCI pass through working for an Nvidia card which is my 2nd graphics adapter and I wish to dedicate it to a particular domU. I had to mod my initrd as follows; mkinitrd -f --preload=pciback

Install on two discs with Software Raid and LVM
I am mirroring two drives during install, what's the best practice here for the swap partition? Maybe two separate lv's from independent vg's *not* mirrored for swap and the let the OS manage it? Boot and the / vg will be mirrored. Thanks! jlc

PCNS for CentOS and APC ups's
Apparently there is only an Itanium client for RHEL according to APC? I need to setup a few boxes to shut down safely and don't know if the PCNS 2.2.3 Linux version will do it? Anyone know why it needs Java as well? (Blegh) Assuming APC is fairly popular, how do you guys shutdown your CentOS boxes with a UPS with a management card in it? HELP, I accidentally initialized my /boot partition
So I installed a second drive in my system today, and instead of typing "mkfs.ext3 /dev/sda1" I did a "mkfs.ext3 /dev/hda1". Fortunately, that was just my /boot partition. I thought I could just copy the contents from the /boot partition from another system, but that didn't work as expected. The again, I don't have another system that's identical to the

Unknown boot option `pciback.hide=(09:04.0)': ignoring
Good morning, I need to use pciback.hide to hide a pci card because I want to pci passthrough that card to a domU. My hardware neither supports Intel-Vt-d nor AMD's IOMMU. Unfortunately this doesn't seem to work in Centos 54 anymore. I guess it doesn't work because it is not compiled into the kernel, but as a module. I got the following error in dmesg and the pci device is still

Ok, Jumbo's enabled on the switch and media server. For the sake of our sanity jumping back and forth, I am trying to enable jumbo's on the bonded pair in the target, # ifconfig bond0 mtu 9014 and it errors
