Decent Performance
Hi all, I am trying to get some decent speed out of a vanilla Debian (Proxmox) box and am running out of ideas. Basically I can exchange data at 110MB/sec (raw, nfs, ftp) but not with Samba shares. I tried almost every samba tuning tip I could find to no avail. The only optimisation left to smb.conf at the moment is debug level = 0. As one can see the robocopy throughput is merely half of what

Web proxy/content filter w/ AD integration
I need to setup a proxy that does transparent auth to AD, does anyone have experience or suggestions for a setup that will run in CentOS? I came across an article on integrating Squid with Windows AD for auth but it doesn't auth transparently (is that even possible?). Thanks! jlc

Web Filter
I have a location using a CentOS 5 server that's multihomed running Asterisk and iptables for internal web access. Recently some sales people got busted surfing some explicit content so the owner wants something in there to block this. I had heard of Dans Guardian and am reading about what's involved here but just wanted an opinion on what's the best solution for this. NTLM silent

Virtio-disk with driver from Microsoft from 2006 ?
Hi, i wanted to benchmark a windows guest, compare standard driver and virtio driver. I installed the domain first with an IDE disk. I followed https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Paravirtualized_Block_Drivers_for_Windows to install the virtIO driver. In the device manager my VirtIO disk is recognized as a VirtIO SCSI disk from RedHat which seems ok for me. But the driver is, following the device

does anyone have experience with clusters?
Hi all, I want to start experimenting with clusters, and I would like to use normal desktop grade hardware for this. I have some extra PC components lying around, enough to build 3 - 4 moderate desktops with a PIV / C2D CPU & 512MB - 1GB RAM each. All the machines should have at least a 100MB NIC, but I can add a gigabit NIC to the machines that doesn't have it if need be. I have used

Speed up rsync with many of excluded files
Hello, I have a problem while rsyncing a directory with perhaps 1.000.000 files. Before this I generate some files locally and add them to temp files. So this files should be excluded from syncing. I''ve installed debian lenny amd64, it is frozen now. I''ve install kernel for xen support but it doesn''t start. It says "you need to load kernel first" but I''ve installed all the packages concerning xen, also packages related to the kernel. Perhaps lenny doesn''t support xen anymore? Any solution?

Migrating standalone systems to KVM
A while ago I got great instructions from Pasi for migrating standalone systems to *xen*. However, now I have decided to use KVM instead, which raises a new question: How to migrate a standalone system to *KVM*? I know a two-step way to do it: standalone system -> xen pv guest xen pv guest -> KVM pv guest I read that xen -> KVM migration is trivially easy. But is there an easier
