howto's and docs from the forums
hi guys, just spent 20 minutes looking through the forums on the website, and it seems people are posting howtos and walkthoughs there. whats the general feeling ? is it worth getting in touch with the authors and seeing if they would like to maintain them on the wiki instead ? I know some of them are really mad and we wont / dont want to highlight them too much ( like, gnome-2.16 hacked

Structure for Contribution Pages
Hi Guys, While updating es/ pages, noted that actually there are two Contribute pages. One in Contribute and other in HowToContribute. I wonder if we could reorganize that a bit. Maybe separate contribution needs by SIGs. Then create a Contribution index page where all those SIG's contribution pages be linked from ? It may be needed to create some SIGs in those areas where they don't

modern-CentOS-1.7-2
Hi, the layout on wiki-m.centos.org looks pretty convincing to me, now. Two things: <http://people.centos.org/~ralph/pagetrail.png> - the pagetrail stuff isn't readable at all. I propose the following patch to screen.css: -----%<-----%<-----%<-----%<-----%<-----%<-----%<-----%<-----%<-----%< --- screen.css.orig 2007-11-15 12:35:59.000000000 +0000

Merging 2 contribute pages
Hi, I have merged the HowToContribute and Contribute pages onto the Contribute link. But the tab on the top points to HowToContribute, while the link on the first page references the Contribute page. Is it possible to link the Contribute tab on the top to the Contribute page instead and then remove the HowToContribute page ? I now added a simple #REDIRECT (after trying to rename it over a

Request permission to edit/create new entries for FreeNX and YUMEX
Hi people I will like to ask for the permission to rewrite the current FreeNX article. The current article is lacking in the information on how to add accounts to the nxserver on centos. I think it will be very difficult for linux newbies to understand how to read that article. I am a newbie too so I can understand the frustration when you can't find an appropriate HowTo article. Calculating required bandwidth
I was posed this question: A T1 set up for voice carries 24 conversations on a circuit that is 1.544 megabits/second. Right? Well, if you set that T1 up to carry data and run a link between two IP networks over it, how many SIP conversations could it be expected to carry? How about IAX? How would one extend this calculation to varying bandwidth circuits and various VOIP protocols (MGCP,

OpenSSL binary compatibility between CentOS 4 and 5
[Re-sending ...] I would like to ask why upstream and CentOS provide no compat-openssl packages like Novell does in SUSE. We are trying to install binaries for gLite (a huge toolkit for grid computing linked against upstream v4 libraries) on CentOS 5. I was under the impression that this would be possible because v5 is "binary-compatible" with v4. But it seems this "binary

Solaris Dynamic Tracing Guide gets Wikified!
Tracers, Good news! The Solaris Dynamic Tracing Guide has entered the participation age at last and has been converted into wiki format. The new and shiny guide can be found at: http://wikis.sun.com/display/DTrace/Documentation The guide has fallen behind with developments in DTrace since it was first released and needs some revising and some bug fixing as well. However, now that it''s

USB keys
Well, we wanted to put an install on a USB key. Neither I nor the other admin was amused by the singing and dancing that the wiki offers - and just *why* is it that syslinux is broken? At any rate, I did some googling, and found <http://www.pendrivelinux.com/>, and I ran this installer. Ok, it has some bugs: a) I had several .isos, and it *insisted* on grabbing the first one,

iptables article for Wiki
Hi List, I have been asked in this thread if I would contribute an article on iptables to the Wiki: http://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=10240&forum=37 The article would be based on a tutorial I have previously written here: http://forums.pcper.com/showthread.php?t=432469 I'm not sure where the article should best go so leave that to your discretion. If you

CentOS Wiki
Hi there, my name is Sebastian Dziallas and I would like to contribute to the CentOS Wiki. I thought a bit about what I could do and I think I would like to help translating the wiki in other languages. I speak English, German and also French. My UserName is - what a surprise - SebastianDziallas. On the HowToContribute-Page you said that I should know where to put the articles. As you

Re: CentOS-docs Digest, Vol 13, Issue 2
HI! Friends, I have recently shared my experiences while installing CentOS using a single CD, then creating XEN VMs and sharing YUM repositories and stuff at my blog, http://mytechrantings.blogspot.com/2007/08/centos-5-selinux-xen-squid-yum-cache.html But as per feedback I realized that it was to chaotic and full of ramblings and was suggested to write some how tos. I from my experience on Net

Opening of the wiki Part III(?) ...
... which will hopefully be the last part. Sorry that it took that long, but I didn't have too much time on my hands over the last two months or so. This is what should be the last stages of opening up the wiki: a) I have changed the account creation page: <http://wiki-m.centos.org/UserPreferences>. Please view that page while logged out of wiki-m. b) While doing so I have

HardwareList - webcams
Hi List, The hardware list page on the Wiki: http://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalResources/HardwareList says: "I'd like to see this page as an entry point for hardware that does not work with CentOS out of the box or only with some effort. I do not see a need for a list which states all working hardware." I'd like to ask if we can make a small exception to that rule for

Merging Documentation and Help pages
Hi, Going over the wiki some more I noticed that the GettingHelp and Documentation page contain the same type of information and could be merged (and reduced) as well. On the FrontPage it is called "Learn" (which I like) and points to the Documentation page. On top it says "Help" and points to the GettingHelp page. I would prefer to keep the Documentation page (or rename
