Request for edit permission on HowTos/BuildingKernelModules
Hi CentOS Docs team,
I am writing to request for updating the wiki page
HowTos/BuildingKernelModules[1]
Basically, the page need some love for more recent CentOS releases -
in CentOS 7 if people use the in-distro /usr/lib/rpm/redhat/kmodtool
the following command won't work
rpmbuild -bb --target=`uname -m` --define 'kversion 3.10.0-862.el7'
testkmod.spec
Instead, people should use

Kickstart, package always selected
I'm trying to kickstart a Centos 4.1 system with the minimum set of
packages. I have no use for ypbind so I'm trying to prevent from
being installed, but kickstart/anaconda always insist on its
installation (complaining that the package is missing). This is the
%packages section of my ks file so far:

C7 Kernel module compilation
Hey there,
I'm trying to compile a single module following this guide:

Using CentOS repos in a RHEL machine
Hi
I have 2 machines with RHEL 5.2 and I would like to use CentOS repos. I
would like to know if the document "Using CentOS Repositories on RHEL
Machines"[1] can be used in CentOS 5.2 without too much modifications.
Thanks

a HP DLT 40/80G tape device for being use as tape backup to my server.
My questions are:

dump/restore, TAR scipts, other)?
2. How can I backUP my entire filesystem ..(I mean everything using one

System on time
Hi,
To get my system on time, I usually issue these two commands:
# ntpdate de.pool.ntp.org
# hwclock -w
And when I want this to be done on startup, I put the two lines in
rc.local.
I wonder if this is an orthodox way to do things. Or is there something
more appropriate?

Building rpms
I have been asked to update OpenLDAP to the latest stable version. I am
using CentOS 4.2 and have OpenLDAP 2.2.13 installed. I can install from
source if I have to, but I would rather stay with rpm packages if possible.
I found an rpm from Fedora Core Development on RPMFIND. Will this one work
with Centos, or should I grab the source rpm and rebuild it?

Thanks for all the help and advice
I went with CentOS today and I couldn't be happier. I'm definitely
excited to be part of this community.
Now I just have to remember (after years of using the default SuSE
install of Java/Ant/Tomcat/Eclipse, etc.) where the best place to put my
Java apps is.

2.6.9-42.ELsmp kernel and 3ware 9550 tools
I have the latest kernel with the drivers for my 3ware 9550SX built in.
Where
can I find the tools and monitoring apps for this card? Are there rpms
hiding
somewhere, or do I need to build it from source?

AW: Problems with installation
ok - I tried this too. But CentOS tries to find the floppy as /dev/hda which
is not the device for the USB-Floppy. Dell ships one with the server because
no one is integrated. So when I try to include the driver disk the installer
is not able to find it.

RPM -e for single architecture
Hi All:
On architectures where multiple architectures for an RPM may be simultaneously
installed (my example is x86_64), does anyone know the RPM magic to remove
only one version?
For instance, if I have the x86_64 and i386 versions of an RPM installed, how
I can specify to only remove the i386 version?
I have been unable to find a search phrase that turns up any useful
information.

Using fedora's kernel on centos
Hi,
The latest fedora kernel already has the CONNMARK support. I'd like
to use it in my centos 4.2 server.
I know it is not as stable as the 2.6.9.x the comes with centos but it
is an alternative to using the vanilla kernel.
I've managed to rebuild the rpm of the FC4 kernel in my Centos server
but when trying to install I get

Building a custom install CD
Greetings,
I am looking for resources on how to build my own Centos install CD
for a preselected package set that I want to install. I think Red Hat
may have had this functionality at some point but it has been a while
since I have needed to do this.
I found this on how to build my own kernel -
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/BuildingKernelModules - which I will
need to exercise as well, but I

Yum question - RHEL4
Hi
this is technically a RHEL4 question but i hope it can be answered here...
Does RHEL4 do yum OK ? I kix a lot of boxes and it would be great to run
the update after the build automajically rather than running through the
up2date registration and using that method. I would also rather not pay
lots for satellite server.
If i setup my own RHEL repo can i use yum against this? Or any other
