Cent OS 5 server setup walkthrough
I have just finished setting up and configuring a server running CentOS 5
with 2 Xen VMs. This article describes my journey through this, including
the problems I faced and there solutions. It documents the installation of
CentOS 5, from a single CD, adding software, configuring squid, NFS, Xen,
etc and sharing yum cache and lot more!
I request everyone to check this out and tell me what should I

accurate file size
Hello
I was copying some files from one server to other,
that I relized the total file size ( sum of all files )
in one server is a bit more than the one that copied from
( about 6 when I do du -s )
individual file sizes are identical, when I do one by one file
comparison, but the sum is different.
is there any more accurate way to make sure of integrity of the file.

Asterisk testbed for teaching connecting to a PRI-ISDN
Hi,
I would like to realize a voip testbed that should simulate the scenario
in which two companies have an asterisk PBX connected through a PRI-ISDN
to the Telco operator.
I have no experience of T1/E1 connection but I think that the above
could be relized with 3 asterisk boxes equipped with Digium TE405P cards.
One of the box will represent the Telco, the other two, the two
companies PBX.

iptables article for Wiki
Hi List,
I have been asked in this thread if I would contribute an article on
iptables to the Wiki:
http://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=10240&forum=37
The article would be based on a tutorial I have previously written here:
http://forums.pcper.com/showthread.php?t=432469
I'm not sure where the article should best go so leave that to your
discretion. If you

HardwareList - webcams
Hi List,
The hardware list page on the Wiki:
http://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalResources/HardwareList
says:
"I'd like to see this page as an entry point for hardware that does not
work with CentOS out of the box or only with some effort. I do not see a
need for a list which states all working hardware."
I'd like to ask if we can make a small exception to that rule for

Opening of the wiki Part III(?) ...
... which will hopefully be the last part.
Sorry that it took that long, but I didn't have too much time on my
hands over the last two months or so.
This is what should be the last stages of opening up the wiki:
a) I have changed the account creation page:
<http://wiki-m.centos.org/UserPreferences>. Please view that page
while logged out of wiki-m.
b) While doing so I have

Encrypting tmp swap and home
Hi everyone,
I added a page under the HowTos for Encryption, and then added a guide
for encrypting /tmp /swap and /home using cryptsetup and LUKS keys on
LVM, when you already have partitions setup.

rsync -x does not do the same on EL 5.6 and 5.7
Hi,
We re doing backups of all filesystems to a dedicated server using "rsync
-x". Now, the latest CentOS versions (5.7/6.x) come with rsync-3.0.6
instead of rsync-2.x. That's nice but unfortunately it doesn't do the same
as 2.x in certain situations.
The problem is with the -x option, which does not delete content under a
mount point anymore. It was my impression that this is

[LLVMdev] PATCH: Registry template
This is a template that takes care of managing plugin registries. I
wrote it because I got the distinct feeling I was needlessly
reinventing the wheel as I wrote a collector registry. I haven't
converted anything else to use it, though. Still, it's orthogonal and
has become stable in my usage, so I thought I'd submit it in advance.
To get my collector registry going, all I

Libvirt uses XML for most of the APIs. Depends what you need to do you can
transform it with xmltodict or use some higher level API. I'm not sure I can

How to Retrieve content of the document?
Hi,
I have just started using xapian and I may sound like a noob. I want to know
how i can access the content of the document retrieved while searching. I
have used the code found on this mailing list itself to index my database.
#!/usr/bin/perl -w
use strict;
use Search::Xapian;
use File::Find;
my $DATABASE_DIR = '/home/rohit/Desktop/SET/DB';
