About the article OS_Protection by JimPerrin
Evolution (aka JimPerrin - or is this the other way around?) has been working on this excellent wiki article: http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/OS_Protection However, the discussion is taking place at his own blog site http://www.bofh-hunter.com/ . Because this is a CentOS wiki article, I just wonder why we cannot do it here. Sure, his blog site may collect a wider audience, but we traditionally

Review and maintenance of the JavaOnCentOS article.
Hello everyone! In a CentOS forum thread[1], I was asked by forum member "AlanJBartlett" if I would like to take on the care and feeding of the latter (section 3?) part of the "JavaOnCentOS" article. Initially, I would like to correct the Sun JDK 1.6 part, which instructs readers to download the wrong Sun JDK file (there are two, one .bin and one rpm.bin) for the actual

Hi, since I, just hours ago, followed http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/JavaOnCentOS (Sun's JDK) I thought I'd confirm and update the "A less simple approach" with information that's a bit newer than jdk 1.4. Registered WIKI account: MikaelFridh Furthermore, I'd like to ask you if anyone know what was meant by the comment on the wiki: > *This HowTo is not complete

Suggestion for "how to" section: easy way to install the JDK?
I've read website http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/JavaOnCentOS. I am a total newbie with CentOS, but currently, with update 21 of the Java 6 JDK and CentOS 5.5, the installing the JDK appears to be simpler: 1. Download the latest *rpm.bin jdk (as of today,jdk-6u21-linux-i586-rpm.bin) fromhttp://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/widget/jdk6.jsp 2. chmod +x the downloaded file. 3. su 4. Execute

Thanks Yagi-san! So I was originally wondering how to fix some issues (e.g. typo) in the wiki, and I ended up finding this mailing list. Should I report the issue in the mailing list, and wait for someone with proper privileges to fix it? Or am I allowed to edit it by myself? Java Setup
Hi People I have been following the instructions here http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/JavaOnCentOS but trying to modify them for jdk-6u7-linux-amd64.rpm but there doesn't see to be a compatible java-1.6.0-sun-compat-*.rpm. Does one exist ? If not can anyone point me to some documentation on how I can manually set up things so alternatives will work allowing multiple Java versions.

requesting edit/create page rights for wiki.centos.org/contribute
Hi Akemi, thank you so much for your help. So, the case sensitivity bit me again: my actual account name is all lower case: https://wiki.centos.org/tomastomecek (b/c that's also my FAS account name) I guess I can try creating an account with initials in caps or I'd need the perms for my lower case account. Don't have a preference. I just read my original email and realized that I

requesting edit/create page rights for wiki.centos.org/contribute
Thanks, Akemi. I still need the permissions though: "You are not allowed to edit this page.", the same holds for my personal page. I also cannot find precise documentation how to contribute to the wiki itself: I can see on this ML that git diffs of changes are being posted - should I open a PR to some repo or edit the wiki page directly? I can create new pages for /de/* but cannot update the "/de/FrontPage" which is slightly outdated.

Hi Yagi-san, Thank you for guiding me. Does this wiki have a wysiwyg editor? Or the workflow is to download the whole page, edit it, and then upload it back again? In my Menu it shows just 'Load' and 'Save' options in the menu, even in the WikiSandBox page.
