Also why use an old version ? > Samba is running on a custom Unix distribution, all ports are open > for the tests

DNS question
Dear list, we use debian stretch with Louis's 4.10.5 packages and bind9_dlz backend. There are two AD DCs with redundant ISC DHCP servers on them. The DHCP servers are updating the DNS along the lines of https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Configure_DHCP_to_update_DNS_records_with_BIND9 but with nsupdate commands replaced by suitable calls to "samba-tool" (I had problems getting the

Samba acting as a domain member + netbios
Okay the '%' were due to bad coy paste between the source code and a local smb.conf. The samba is running on a minimal and embedded environment, which is why it must be built using buildroot. It turns out that we might have been too restrictive with the samba libraries embedded in our environment. I've solved this issue using latest version available in buildroot (4.19.3) and making

Problem with libkexiv2 ?
Hi, I'm currently installing a dozen CentOS 7 + KDE desktops in our local school. I've already installed a minimal X11 + WindowMaker, and now I want to install KDE on top of that, but the installation fails. There's some broken dependency in the repos. I've narrowed the problem down to the libkexiv2 package. Here's that I get. # yum install libkexiv2 ... --> Running

[help] failed to launch guestfs in different Openstack environment
Hello guys, This is Phoenix from Dell and we now have one strange issue related to launch guestfs in Openstack environment. In Openstack of our lab, guestfs can be launched successfully within one SLES12 instance. While when our SLES12 instance is deployed in customer's Openstack, we see guestfs cannot be launched. And also the error message is ambiguous :

cannot set filesystem permissions on shares
@Louis, thanks for your answer. I've gone through the steps I found on your site, but when I wanted to install the packages, Debian didn't found the newer packages. I tried to give the version number to the apt-get, but it didn't help. apt-get install -t o=AptVanBelle samba=4.10.5+nmu-1debian0 winbind=4.10.5+nmu-1debian0 libnss-winbind=4.10.54.10.5+nmu-1debian0

W10 workstations not connecting to Samba 4.10.5 member
Last night I upgraded my AD domain controllers (Ubuntu18.04LTS) to Samba 4.10.5. These are a built from source install. This morning my Windows 10 workstations cannot connect to the member server (U18.04 and Samba 4.10.5) for find profiles and files needed. Here is my smb.conf: [global] workgroup = MYDOM server string = Samba Server Version %v security = ads realm = MYSHRM.DT use sendfile =

Firstly, Louis, and Rowland, thanks for your answers. > Yes, you used the samba docs, that good. > https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/User_Home_Folders It turned out, no :( I followed it, and it caused me some days to find out why I cannot set acls. Sorry Rowland for the lot of works for me, but I just followed the wiki. > Ps2 in general, a good read :

smbclient ignores configured kerberos ccache when using krb5-user on ubuntu/debian
Hello all. I'm encountering an issue where smbclient seemingly ignores the kerberos ccache as configured in krb5.conf when using "krb5-user" as the kerberos package and will instead always default to using "FILE:/tmp/krb5cc_uid". I tested each valid default ccache name type but smbclient completely ignores whatever is set as the "default_ccache_name" in the conf
