StorNext CVFS
Morning All!
Anyone ever tried exporting a StorNext CVFS filesystem from a Linux box???
I?ve got this Samba server (3.5.6) running on CentOS 5.4 and it?s working
fine, exporting ext3, nfs and an IBM GPFS filesystem just fine. So I know
Samba is good an my configuration is working.
I tried to add the exportation of a StorNext CVFS volume and that doesn?t
work. All the other volumes still work

Value too large for defined data type
Howdy,
I am just starting to use rsync and now have an rsync server set up
to back up our
various machines. I recently started getting an error that is confusing and
I can't find info
documented on it. I searched the news group and found it mentioned but no
solution yet.
I get the error when sync'ing from a Solaris 8 machine to my Solaris 8
server.

xServes are dead ;-( / SAN Question
Hi !
As some of you might know, Apple has discontinued it's xServes server as of
january 31st 2011.
We have a server rack with 12 xserves ranging from dual G5's to dual
quand-core xeon lastest generation, 3 xserve-raid and one activeraid 16 TB
disk enclosure. We also use xSan to access a shared file system among the
servers. Services are run from this shared filesystem, spreaded

samba 4.x slow ...
Hi,
we are running samba 4.4 on two machines as file servers.
Both are running a GFS (stornext). The storage is attached using 8G HBA.
You can get up to 800MB/s local speed. We are exporting the shares using
2x1GB
and 2x10G. However the clients are only getting 40-50MB/s. With samba3 I
think we had up to 80-90MB/s.
Using a 100MB/s link for the client we see 12-13MB/s (wire speed).

dyn.load(now = FALSE) not actually lazy?

On Unix-like systems, dyn.load forwards its arguments to dlopen(). It
should be possible to confirm with a debugger that R passes RTLD_NOW to
dlopen() when calling dyn.load(now =

connection speeds between nodes
Hi All,
I've been asked to setup a 3d renderfarm at our office , at the start it
will contain about 8 nodes but it should be build at growth. now the
setup i had in mind is as following:
All the data is already stored on a StorNext SAN filesystem (quantum )
this should be mounted on a centos server trough fiber optics , which
in its turn shares the FS over NFS to all the rendernodes

Performance tweaking for lots of files
Hullo,
I'm looking for performance-tweaking of our samba server (linux,
RHES4-based). Looking around on the internet I found plenty of things
that stated 'the usual' things (buffer-sizes, nodelay, logging to a
minimum, etc), but nothing that actually seems to work. We usually have
directory structures with many thousands (up to 100k or more) of
relatively small files (around 10MB

RE: Largish filesystems [was Re: XFS install issue]
To start I wish to that you for the swift response on this
issue. I do not think that I would get such a quick
response from a proprietary (closed-source) company. Open
Source :-).
To respond to one the comments about large file systems
?recommend you split it in several smaller (2-4TB)
filesystems ?
This is not feasible in many situations. In some
situations 2-4TB is not even a reasonable

Samba reporting only ~4G on a much larger filesystem
I tried this on the IRC channel and got not response...
I have a 2.2TB filesystem. The filesystem itself is a stornext (Quantum) filesystem, which in the /etc/fstab is type cvfs.
When a client mounts the samba share, it only reports ~4GB (3.9 or 3.7 GB) total space. We have a third party app, which will/can not be updated which checks the disk space available and fails if it's not enough.

LUN Aggregation
Greetings.
Is there an approved way to aggregate LUNs when using OCFS2? I have several 1TB LUNs I'd
like to make into a single filesystem. Would I use something like Linux software raid?

Build R with MKL and ICC
After a few days of reading and headache, I finally gave a try at
building R from source with Intel MKL and ICC. Documentation and posts
on this topic are rather incomplete, sometime fantasist et do not give
much explanations about configure options.
As I am not sure if mine is correct, I would appreciate some advices and hints.

clustered file system of choice
Hi all,
I am just trying to consider my options for storing a large mass of
data (tens of terrabytes of files) and one idea is to build a
clustered FS of some kind. Has anybody had any experience with that?
Any recommendations?
Thanks in advance for any and all advice.
Boris.

boost-openmpi problems in 7.2
After the 7.2 upgrade?boost-openmpi-1.53.0-25 was installed, along
with?openmpi-1.10.0-10. ?The old openmpi was then replaced with?compat-

Except boost-openmpi has a dependency on the old libmpi.so.1 and the
new openmpi has libmpi.so.12:

Installation of R-4.3.1 with intel 2022
Note that 'intel 2022' is a bit vague. The current version is 2023.1.0,
and that has both the 'classic' (icc/icpc/ifort which it seems you used)
and new (icx/ixpx/ifx) compilers -- the former are said to be going to
be discontinued later this year. R did not know about ifx so did not
build with the new set.
The parts of the manual Tomas referred to were about the old

Did you load the compat-openmpi environment module?
