OS Virtualization: Linux-VServer and OpenVZ
Greetings, So, anyone on this list using OS Virtualization? I've been using OpenVZ for about 1.5 years. I also have some experience with Linux-VServer. In my experience, if you want to do Linux on Linux, both OpenVZ and Linux-VServer offer native performance, better scalability, and higher density than VMware, Xen or KVM... although I must admit I haven't actually tried KVM yet. OpenVZ variant
Greetings, I was reading the LWN article from today (free to non-subscribers next Thursday). Here's a subscriber link for those who might want to see it now: CentOS and Red Hat - http://lwn.net/SubscriberLink/592723/485ea802859f6c36/ I saw that Xen was mentioned as an area where CentOS went beyond RHEL with CentOS 6... and being that I'm deeply in the OpenVZ community, I thought it

Error when adding content to es/Repositories page
Hi guys, We already have some content to fill es/Repositories page ... When I tried to do so, an error appears saying that I have no access to change acl rights. That's rare to me because I'm just inserting content, no #acl line there . Do you know what this could be ? Thanks, al.

First version of "OpenVZ on CentOS" now avaiable
Greetings, I want to thank the CentOS Documentation Team for allowing me to create the new wiki page for "OpenVZ on CentOS". I wrote it quite quickly today and I have to admit I this is my first wiki article and the syntax is completely new to me. As a result it is probably ugly. Any formatting help would be appreciated. Also, I should have proof read it better... and will do so

user authentication issue
Hey Rowland, Thanks for the advice. The host is running Ubuntu 12.04 and I've included the smb.conf below (reverted it to its "original" state prior to following Jeremy's advice). I don't suppose you know why the user is able obtain a list of Samba services (i.e. smbclient -L host -U user) if they aren't known to Samba? I find that confusing. - Itamar

Check out Proxmox VE... can CentOS improve on this?
Greetings, I'm a big OpenVZ fanboy. I've sent a few emails on this list that proves that... and I'm sure I've annoyed some people... but be that as it may... I would like to draw everyone on this list's attention to Proxmox VE. What is Proxmox VE? Here's a review from the end of June: ProxMox: The high-performance virtualization server for the rest of us

How to create an OpenVZ OS Template for CentOS 7 Public QA
Greetings, First start of by working on a physical system, virtual machine, or container that matches the OS Template you are wanting to build. I used my CentOS 7 Public QA OS OpenVZ container to build it. You must of course have a working yum. Once we are beyond Public QA and there is stuff in /etc/yum.repos.d/ this won't be a problem. One thing to note is that the --enablerepo= must

Using resource names in templates...
Hi all, I''ve been turning my head upside down to find a solution on the following problem: I have a samba fileserver and need to make puppet do: 1. Create groups 2. Create directories with group rights 3. Create an smb-shares.conf from a template that can be included in the main smb.conf. To do this I need to have a combination of sharename and group _and_ create the

user authentication issue
Hey Jeremy, Thanks for the advice. I followed your suggestion collected the logged information for a single connection attempt (i.e. smbclient //servername/sharename -U username); I've included the log data below (in the postscript). It looks like Samba is still looking for a Unix user account and not finding one. I should mention that it seems that I am able to authenticate as the user; the
