SAMBA installation
hi, just wanted to introduce myself. My company is currently running a very old version of Samba - 2.0.7. I have been upgrading our UNIX systems this past month and have reached Samba. I know, if this is anything like the past upgrades over the last few weeks, I will need some support. Nothing has installed successfully the first time around.

Unix Group Question with repect to Samba
I have a question with regards to using Unix groups with samba. This might
be easier to explain with an example.
Lets say I have two users
UserID: GID
UserA:Group1

If I have a directory with group ownership set to "groupdev" and group mode

UserA & UserB cannot create a

Samba server in a failover environment
Hello, Samba Gurus .....
I have a Samba server running on a pair of SUN servers (server-a and
server-b).
The samba shares are NFS mounted from a third SUN server (server-c).
I installed Samba 2.2.7a on the paired SUN servers under /usr/local/samba
(Samba 2.2.7a is locally installed on server-a and server-b, since
/usr/local/samba
is local on the rootdisk.)
The failover environment works like

logging problems
Hi!
I'd also like to report a strange logging problem I have.
OS: Solaris 2.8
rsync version: 2.6.7
When I run rsync in daemon mode invoked at a command prompt, it does log information in my configured log file (i.e. /var/log/rsyncd.log). But when I invoke it via inetd with an entry in inetd.conf, it does not log any information.
rsync version 2.5.6 did not have this problem.
My inetd.conf

For some reasons I would like to run two samba installations (/opt/samba1

Is such a dual installation supported?
If yes, what do I have to consider?

oplock problems with samba 2.2.7a
Hi ,
Before I copy and paste the oplock message(s), here is the setup I have.
I have samba server (on Solaris 2.8) which shares out the NFS mounted
directories to the windows world.
All was working fine till today morning when users complained of extreme
slow performance , looks like there is problems with oplocks accessing some
files.
Below is the snippet to the error log.

Hellor, Samba Gurus,
We have a Samba 2.2.7a installation on a Sun server running Solaris 2.8.
Our Samba server has successfully joined an NT domain, and our Windows-NT

are able to map Samba shares from the Samba server.
But the logfiles in our Samba var (/usr/local/samba/var) directory contain

as.Date
Hi. I'm sure this is a complete green-horn question. I apologize.
I'm trying to use as.Date *exactly* as shown on p. 194 of the manual (code
fragment and error message pasted below). Is there some kind of "include"
or "import" statement that I need to issue? Thank you very much for saving
what remains of my hair.

SIP Provider Question
Are there any sip providers out there providing full business telephone
service. Not just single line/residential service like I have seen with
vonage etc.
For example take a company currently using a legacy pbx connected to the
PSTN with a PRI. I would like to replace this setup with a data T1, an
asterisk box, and some SIP Phones then pass all calls (local and long
distance) directly

PAM problem with Samba and Winbind (on Solaris 2.8)
I am having a problem getting samba and winbind to work correctly.
I installed Samba 2.2.7a (which includes Winbind, because I compiled the
source code with "./configure --with-winbind" ) on a Solaris 2.8 server.
On solaris 2.8 server, I joined a PDC successfully, and I can see all unix
and PDC user accounts using:
/usr/local/samba/bin/wbinfo -u
and, I can see all unix and PDC

Proper way to reference a disk
Hi,
We are running on CentOS 7.0. We want to move our VMs (kvm/qemu) from
qcow/image files to logical volumes under LVM.
I have moved one of them but I had a little trouble editing the disk
properly and I wonder what is the correct way to do it. Specifically, in
the XML under the devices/disk section why does the source say "source file=",
and not "source dev="? The reason I
