how do I spec my Rails routes?
Once again, here''s something I haven''t figured out. Apologies if this
is too newb-ish, but, how do I spec my routes using RSpec-Rails?
In particular, I''ve got a catch-all route that needs to catch a wide
variety of URLs:
map.document ''*url'', :controller => ''documents'', :action => ''show''

strange matching: maybe a multilanguage collation problem?
Hi,
We''re using Ferret in a slightly unorthodox way: We''re indexing a
large (>100,000) list of names of places all around the world. Mostly
we''re quite happy with it, and have been able to graft on our own
particular required functionality with just a little tweaking.
There''s one strange problem, though: We''ve got a place in Cyprus

specifying an HTTP status code
Hi all,
I''m just starting to work w/ RSpec, so I hope this question isn''t too
obvious or missing the point somehow: Is there a way in RSpec to
specify that a controller action should use a specific HTTP status
code? Specifically I want to test for the usage of 301 as opposed to
302, for a permanent redirection.
response.should be_redirect
looks like it calls

Rails: possible routing discrepancy
Hey all, I''m seeing a strange behavior in my spec that I can''t
account for. I''ve got a route that looks like this:
map.writing \
''/writing'',
:controller => ''abstracts'', :action => ''index'',
:index => { :select => ''all'' }
and I have template code that looks like this:

Mocks? Really?
OK, so i''ve played a bit with mocks and mock_models in controller and
view tests and i have a question. Is this statement really correct:
"We highly recommend that you exploit the mock framework here rather
than providing real model objects in order to keep the view specs
isolated from changes to your models."

Rspec with ActionMailer and .deliver
I''m in the process of migrating from Rails 2 with rspec 1 to Rails 3 with
rspec 2, the process has been going pretty well, however, today I came
across an issue that I wanted to share.
I have a controller that sends out an email through a mailer.
Rails 2
code: CurriculumCommentMailer.deliver_comment_update(@curriculum_comment,
"created")
Rails 3 code:

How do I get logging with rspec?
Say I''m testing a controller with rspec, and I have logger.debug and
logger.error calls.
Normally I''d like them to write to the appropriate file, but in this
case I''d like to see the output on STDOUT.
Is there an easy way to redirect logging in rspec to do this?
I''m thinking that
controller.should_receive(:logger).and_return(logger)
should start it off,

rSpec / Nested Routes / Mocks
I''m having a terrible time trying to test a nested route with rSpec.
I can''t seem to tell rSpec to expect the call @item.user. The
following error message plagues me not matter how I try to fuss with
the mock:

items should redirect to the new course on successful save''

help with rspec''ing controller
Hi,
I''m a rspec newbie. I''m having trouble with rspec''ing a simple
controller to Create a record.
I''ve tried a couple of approaches and still get errors:
Mock ''remedy'' expected :save! with (any args) once, but received it 0
times
-or-
Mock ''Remedy'' received unexpected message :save with (no args).
Here are my two

[Rspec] Difference between stub and message expectation with any_number_of_times
I''m wondering what''s the difference between stub and message expectation
with any_number_of_times, for example:
myMock = mock("mymock")
myMock.stub!(:is_a?).with(MyClass).and_return(false)
and
myMock = mock("mymock")
myMock.should_receive(:is_a?).with(MyClass).any_number_of_times.and_return(false)
because is_a? may not be called at all, it just like a

rspec mocha and controller specs without integrated_views
The ability to choose a mocking framework is great as I prefer mocha, but I
am have problems.
On my controller specs, I am forced to ''integrate_views'' as the following
code below shows you, the mocking of views is rspec specific. See stub!
versus mocha''s stub

[ rspec-Patches-9605 ] Patch for ER 9472, shared behaviour
Hi all - I''ve applied (to trunk) Bob Cotton''s patch which supports
shared behaviours (link to tracker below).
I''m still toying w/ names, so please be aware that until this is
released w/ 0.9 it should be considered experimental and there will
NOT be translation support for it. It will definitely be included in
some form - just the names (specifically

Re: Stubbing out ThinkingSphinx for Rspec
Thanks Wolas!
Sorry if this seems like a newbie question, what am I supposed replace
the stubbed_method_name with?
Also, I came across the only thread on the Interwebs which seems to
cover this topic - it''s over a year old, but I think they have a
solution which could work around the issues you pointed out. However, I
couldn''t work out how to get their subbing approach to

Do you think it would look cleaner?
I was looking over some of my specs.
I was thinking that the following:
@game.should_receive(:name).and_return(''The Battle for Blaze'')
@game.should_receive(:people).and_return(5000000)
@game.should_receive(:activated).and_return(true)
Would it look cleaner if I could do this instead?

Could anyone please help with rspec/nested resource behavior checking?
My problem has been listed here:

Don''t think it would be required to completely re-type it here :)
Thanks!

I''m really bad at controllers, help please.
Hey,
Sorry for so many questions - I''m really bad at this right now.
I''m trying to cover the following code w/ rspec
def index
if params[:user_id]
@user = User.find(params[:user_id])
@messages = @user.messages
end
end
So basically what I''m doing is listing all the messages for a user,
provided there is an id parameter.
