Dual booting centos 4.1 and Solaris 10 express build 15
I have been trying to multiboot centos 4.1 and the current solaris express build 15. I have two hard drive s, the first one ( hd0 ) devoted to CentOS 4.1 and windows xp (no problems). The second drive (hd1) for Solaris 10 only. I tried to boot solaris from CentOS grub and got the following error messages: Booting Solaris 10 root(hd1,0) Filesystem type unknown, partition type 0Xbf kernel

Patch for GRUB Legacy to chainload SYSLINUX from logical partitions
Inspired from a similar patch posted on grub-devel for Grub2 I immersed myself into the code of Grub Legacy and came up with this absurdedly simple patch to allow syslinux or other bootloaders residing in logical partition to be chainloaded from GRUB Legacy (0.9x). Hoping it to be of help, regards Fulvio Scapin -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Name:

Booting C 6.0 from C 5.7
I installed C 6.0 in an empty partition. It functioned. Despite using the usually successful methods of booting into another operating system from C 5.7, I can't get into C 6.0 Tried:- title C6-0 (2.6.32-71.el6.x86_64) rootnoverify (hd0,6) chainloader +1 and root (hd0,6) kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-71.el6.x86_64 ro root=UUID=67c62872-0c69-451c-8412-3c218c0d2cb0 rd_NO_LUKS rd_NO_LVM

Then I ran "syslinux d:" from a Win98SE DOS-box to (try to) initialize the partition's boot record. And added this from a

CentOS 5 Beta Dual Boot Problem
To test CentOS 5, I loaded from DVD adding it to a system at home running Fedora Core 7 T2. Partition Layout is: /dev/hda1 - / for the RH7T2 system /dev/hda2 - /home /dev/hda3 - swap /dev/hda4 - extended /dev/hda5 - / for CentOS 5 The system loaded cleanly and gave me the opportunity to tell grub about the other system. CentOS boots fine. Grub Stage 2 will show me both systems.

Need Dual Boot Installation Help
Adding title Windows XP rootnoverify (hd0,1) chainloader +1 to /etc/grub.conf has always worked for me on every dual boot Win2k, XP, 2k3 / linux boxes I have ever built. Install Windows first then install Linux. You do not need a kernel that has NTFS support and you don't have to play with NTLDR. I know that this goes against just about every Dual-Boot HOWTO you will

centos 5.2 install: mbr or no bootloader ?
I recently used a purchased centos 5.2 dvd to install. It all went smoothly, and I am up and running automagically it seems to have upgraded itself to 5.3 Final One peculiarity: I believe I was given the choice of: --installing the bootloader into mbr or --no bootloader install I did not want my mbr overwritten, so I chose no bootloader Why is there no choice of 1st sector of root partition?

Solaris / OpenSolaris
I'm having some difficulties pxe booting Solaris. So far I have tried the mboot.c32, and the pxegrub shipped with Solaris. At first I had some problems with blksize, but this disapeared when I changed from atftpd to tftpd-hpa. The point at which I'm stuck now is, the kernel and x86.microroot/x86.miniroot is loaded but then VMWare crashes. I might try with real hardware, but I thought

PV-GRUB chainloading Grub2
Hey guys, what I am trying to do is a chainload into grub2 installation in a DomU. So far I determined, PV-GRUB does not understand grub2''s grub.cfg notation. So I created a dummy menu.lst which has the needed root kernel and initrd rows and then referenced this to the DomUs config. The main intention to do this, is to be able to use kernel upgrades without touching the menu.lst for

RE: Error Creating Domain:vbd:Segment phy:/dev/hda3 isin writable use
I''ve seen this happen before, not sure why. I changed ''phy:'' to ''file:'' and it worked. I later rebooted and ''phy:'' worked again. So you might try ''file:'' rather than ''phy:''. -- Ray -----Original Message----- From: xen-users-bounces@lists.xensource.com
