col2rgb, factors & documentation
Hello Core Folk. Quite by accident I discovered today that col2rgb, when fed factors, acts on the integer representation of those factors: td <- as.factor(rainbow(5)) # not how I discovered the issue! td res <- col2rgb(td) res # but col2rgb("#FF0000FF") # this is td[1] but does not produce the same answer res[,1] # moreover as.integer(td) col2rgb(5) # the integer value of the

Selecting complementary colours
Dear r-helpers, I wonder whether, given the "#rrggbb" representation of a colour, there is a simple way to select the complementary colour, also expressed as a "#rrggbb" string. Any suggestions would be appreciated. John -------------------------------- John Fox, Professor Department of Sociology McMaster University Hamilton, Ontario Canada L8S 4M4 905-525-9140x23604

R does not run under latest RStudio
The RStudio list generally does not respond to free version users. I was hoping someone one this (R) list would be kind enough to help me. How to use alpha transparency channel for colors?
The release notes for R 2.0.0 states: It is now possible to specify colours with a full alpha transparency channel via the new 'alpha' argument to the rgb() and hsv() functions, or as a string of the form "#RRGGBBAA". NOTE: most devices draw nothing if a colour is not opaque, but PDF and Quartz devices will render semitransparent colours. A new argument

No, but you need to ask on an RStudio mailing list. This one is about R. Best, Uwe Ligges On 06.04.2023 11:28, Steven T. R does not run under latest RStudio
I have also had difficulty running R in RStudio. Has anyone else had problems? It will be a shame if we need to abandon R Studio. It is a very good IDE. pre summary: mapping of colornames into hsv?
Hi Martin, Great that you follow this. My original intention was to be able to translate colornames to hsv because this would allow using colornames to cut out a certain part of the colorwheel for colorcoding (HSV component H, see my code below) I think internally we might have colors represented as Colornames, ColorIntegers, ColorHexcodes, ColorRGBs, ColorHSVs (ColorCMYs?) however the R-user

Matrix-like plot
Dear List, I have a 47 species * 83 samples matrix containing percentage abundance data. I have two cluster analyses one of the samples and one of the species, and have ordered the rows and columns of the species by samples matrix according to these two cluster analyses. So far so good! Now what I want to do is create a plot with the species dendrogram at the top of the plot, the samples

Calling SAS from R
I'm new to post in R-help and my native language is not English. I apologize if my sentence is not fluent to read. I am doing a simulation study and I need to execute SAS and read a SAS code in R. I try the following code but it doesn't work. system('"c:\\program files\\SAS\\SAS 9.1\\sas.exe" "c:\\syntax.sas"') can anyone give me some help with this?

transparent colors
Dear R graphics experts, Do you know of any way of plotting semi-transparent points in R ? I face this problem any time I want to e.g. plot thousands of points that belong to two or three classes which I color code. With the default opaque colors, the plotting order matters and basically the points I plot last completely dominate the picture. I would much rather have the overlaying points

Maps and plotting
At our facility we have multiple sample points that are sampled on any given day. What I would like to do is create a map of the facility with the sample points (and point labels) and when we have out of specification results, place a transparent dot over the area on the map. As the number of OOS results builds up, I envision the dot getting darker. Are there any packages out there that can aid

making scatter plot points fill semi-transparent
hi all, i have a simple scatter plot, and i'd like to make it so the scatter plot colors are slightly transparent. i see in a previous post that someone mentioned the "alpha" parameter, but i am not sure how it can be used with the 'plot' function [*]. for example, suppose i have: plot(mydata$column1, mydata$column2, col="red", cex=1) i now want to make it so

Complex plotting problem
Hello, I would like to make a plot (preferably lines, but points will do too), where the line segment changes color depending on the value of the y-axis. For example, let's suppose the y-axis range is from -1 to 1. Points close to -1 would be colored blue, while points close to 1 will be colored red. Points in between will be varying degrees of blue/red depending on how close they

Problem about zero
Hello, everyone, There's a problem about zero in R and I really need your help. I have a vector shown as x=c(0.1819711,0.4811463,0.1935151,0.1433675), The sum of this vector is shown as 1 in R, but when I type 1-sum(x), the value is not zero, but -2.220446e-16. I can accept that this value is quite small and could be seen as zero, but there would be a problem when it's not really

apply
OK. Thanks to all. Suppose I have two vectors, x and y. Is there a way to do the covariance matrix with ?apply?. The matrix I need really contains the deviation products divided by the degrees of freedom (n-1). That is, the elements (1,1), (1,2),...,(1,n) (2,1), (2,2),...., (2,n) .... (n,1),(n,2),...,(n,n). > Hello, > > This doesn't make sense, if you have only one vector you
